Reds at Cubs - game 2

  • mhs95_06
Zambrano gets the first two outs, then pitches around Votto, Phillips, and Bruce. Then Ks Cairo for the 3rd out. He chose who he was going to have to try to get out out if one of those 3,4,5 hitters don't get themselves out. I assume if one of the first two would have gotten on he would have chosen to have to try to get BP and only have gotten Votto or Bruce if they got themselves out!

Cueto gets a zero in the bottom of the first, but uses 15 pitches, but that is still less than half what Zambrano used to get his zero in the top of the first.

Need to get Zambrano in the 3rd, when he starts with Renteria and then faces four of the next five that he pitched around the first time(Votto, BP, Bruce, Alonso)

Great play to get the ball by Castro, but 0.1 sec lost on the transfer cost him getting the force out.

Reds get two to give Cueto a 2 run working margin. Alonso has a great approach at the plate, and I hope the Reds don't mess with it, and the poor ball and strike calling umps don't disadvantage him. Hopefully the Reds can trade Joey to Toronto in the off-season for fair value(in players that won't be very costly very soon) so Yonder can have a position he can play.

Doesn't take but one batter for Cueto to lose half the lead on a homer by Zambrano as he "golfs" out a low off-speed pitch.
  • mhs95_06
Then suspect Reds SS defense allows a two out runner who is knocked in on a gap shot to tie the game. Typical 2011 Reds - can't hold leads, and can't claw back enough from deficits to win games.

Play of the year by BP then Stubbs wipes him out. Didnt look good.
BP still down and in obvious pain.

    Fuckin' Drew Stubbs.
  • se-alum
BP prolly milkin' it a little bit though.

BP up looks like he is going to stay in but Dusty needs to take his ass out.

If Stubbs wasn't in the picture it would not have been the play of the year. Since Stubbs was in the picture it was much more difficult and it goes down to at least 2nd or below, to Rolen's great play, as the best plays this year that didn't result in outs.

Absolutely correct! BP's woosyness cost the Reds the 2nd out of an inning ending double play and at least one run.

Back to the good ole Deadlegs that we knew and loved prior to 2010. Sigh. Alonso looks real good though.

Is that sarcasm about his play in the field? Or a true compliment about his batting performance?

Big rumors that Sappelt will be up tomorrow. His brother tweeted it.

    Who is going bye bye

    Heisey to the DL.
  • zach24oz
They may be putting Heisey on the DL because of his oblique...not 100% sure, just a guess. He has missed the last 2 games because of that.

How much longer is Cozart supposed to be out?

Eligible to be activated Monday, but probably won't be. He'll need surgery in offseason. The probably should just do it now, since this team is going nowhere this year.

I can't believe how quickly the wagon wheels fell off this year

No longer rumor, Sappelt will be up tomorrow. Stoked to see the guy play.

Cueto, with a 2.06 ERA now, has a lower ERA than the NL stat leader(Vogelsong 2.19) at the start of the day, but will his short stint today of less than 4 innings give him enough innings to qualify for the stat lead? He gave up what were ruled to be 5 earned runs today, but I submit that poor defense probably was to blame for more of his runs today than a while back when he gave up six, that were all ruled to be un-earned.

This organization has major flaws, I think in the long run this failure will help. Two of the dumbest things I've ever seen happened this year. The first was DFAing Danny Ray so that Willis could come up. They then pitch Willis in AAA anyways and he gets hurt. The second was pinch running Heisey yesterday when they know they are going to DL him. Why not bring up Sappelt after the injury, he's much faster and now Heisey has to wait a couple extra days to come off the DL. These may look like minor things but at the highest level this should not happen.
