Tribe/Rangers: the HEAT of a pennant race

royal_kHeading up to Cedar Point. Probably won't be home in time to catch the next disaster. What a huge disappointment last night's game was. SMH at Matt LaPorta and Manny Acta.
Hopefully we're in a position for CP to finish tonight. He needs to get back out there and get things right.
Go Tribe! -

After watching the play, i dont think Laporta would have had a chance even if he didnt look back at the ump. it may have been close, but still safe. Andrus was going home on contact and he was rounding third as Cabrera was throwing to first(a weak throw on the run). only way this game doesnt end on that play is if Cabrera knows Hamilton has speed and doesnt make the throw because he cant make a strong throw. -
bases_loadedYour all star closer blew his 2nd save attempt in his 2nd attempt in a month. Your manager leaves his best hitter on the bench twice with runners on and less than 2 outs

Yeah, but this team isn't playing well and hadn't been since mid may. I think that first month and a half was a mirage....this garbage that we have watched since then is closer to what they are. -
wes_mantoothLol....munch (wknr) just ripped br on his facebook.....it was quite funny! Munch is such a homer....it is hilarious.

I was thinking the same thing earlier this morning.
Also, you mean our own BR? If so, congratulations, Big Dawg! -
iclfan2Acta is a moron. Honestly I hope they fire him.

Yep....our very own br....lol -
like_thatThe race for the Central is over for the tribe. Oh well, at least we have 2 talented pitching prospects to look forward to in the future.... Oh wait.

I don't agree that it is over, but I'm pretty upset that we traded our top prospects so LATE....and that what was really needed was a hitter. Both prospects gone and we still didn't get what we needed. It's great that we got a supposed 'Ace'...but a starting pitcher is only going to impact 1 out of 5 games.like_that;853377 wrote:The race for the Central is over for the tribe. hoops23Yeah, who needs starting pitching? I mean, they only impact 1 out of every 5 games, no big deal at all...
Our SP was so good before that, even though out starters ERA is borderline average with the rest of the league. -
hoops23I also forgot that keeping prospects has turned out so great for us... How many playoff appearances do we have in the last, oh, 10 years? We've been so dominant by building for the future, I can;t believe the FO actually took a chance at the present by creating a 2-4 year window.
Shame on them. -

I couldn't believe it. I've been opposed to this trade (not opposed to a "splash" trade, just opposed to WHAT we gave up and WHAT we got in return) since they did it and he jumps on my FB like I was in favor of the trade and then did a complete 360. Never trust a man with 7 fingers. -

Sorry, but I am not buying into this. Just because the FO finally makes a move we all have to praise it? Im all for the FO making moves, but I am not going to support the move if it is the WRONG move. They didn't even consider the fact that this team might not even make the playoffs. When you are a small market team you don't give up your pieces, especially your TOP pieces, unless you know you will at least be in the playoffs. Especially for a player that has a lot of red flags. If it was for Pujols I would be all for it, but Ubaldo isn't the same Ubaldo. If he was struggling in the NL, what makes anyone think he is going to thrive in the AL? This team isn't going to be in the playoffs, and they just set the franchise back. The Indians aren't the NY Yankees, or Red Sox. They can't afford to give up their pieces in a trade. -

And THIS was part of my issue. A) I don't think the guy even wants to be here, b) I think he's a prime candidate for future Tommy John and c) his "oh, I'm so mentally stressed out I can't pitch" bullshit. Sack up, Nancy...some of us don't want to go into work EVERY day but we still do. He doesn't have the mental makeup to be an ace.
I had no issue giving up a top line prospect, or two, for someone like a Pence or an offensive weapon, but Jimenez? No....I'd love to wrong and for him to be the Tribe's next Cliff Lee but I have a feeling he's gonna be more like the next Fausto Carmona. -
hoops23And again, we've been stockpiling prospects since Dolan bought the team. It's not gotten us anywhere.
I don't care about the "building for the future" shit, I really don't...
Masterson, Jiminez, Tomlin, Carrasco, Huff, etc... is a pretty solid rotation, and still young rotation.. We still have some solid pitching prospects in McAllister, Rondon, etc...
I'm 100% fine going forward with this rotation. It gives us a damn good chance within the next couple of years to actually make some noise. Dolan is finally opening up the pocketbooks and is saying money is not an issue. The popular consensus is that this team will acquire a legit bat during the winter meetings/offseason... They may even try to get somebody through trade before the Aug 31st waiver wire deadline.
We will just agree to disagree, because prospects are just prospects to me...
Jaret Wright, Adam Miller, Matt LaPorta, Jody Gerut, Jerey Sowers, Jeremy Guthrie, Beau Mills, and those are just recent guys from the Tribe... Point is, they're prospects. As ESPN pointed out, less than half of the guys who were can't miss pitching prospects actually live up to the hype...
Hell, Strasburg was the greatest thing ever, yet he hasn't even pitched since last season... As far as we know, Alex White's injury will plague him like it did Adam Miller, I mean, it is the same exact injury... -

All signs, including Ubaldo himself, pointed to him being happy with the trade. He's said nothing but nice things. And I saw some nasty shit last night. His breaking stuff was filthy and his fastball was hitting 98 MPH. I guess you had no problem with the parting shot Alex White gave Cleveland on his way out though, right?
Also, the rest thing wasn't his doing... It was Manny Acta setting up the rotation. This way you had Masterson/Jiminez back to back. -

how many games does an individual batter win for the team? -

Perhaps not many but that batter can jumpstart a docile offense. -

Crimson streakI'm with you hoops. White will be no better than a 3rd starter. While drew could be a stud or he could be a Adam miller you never know. Ubaldo is a sure thing and facing him and masterson is tough to beat.
-
BRFI'm thinking about starting a public poll thread on this trade business. Let's just line up and see who is "fer" or "agin" at this point.

I'm not sure how you could see a 3rd starter at best. That's more of White's floor than his ceiling in my opinion. He was a 1st round pick. He made it to the majors in under 2 years. He destroyed AA last year (2.28 ERA), and was doing the same thing at AAA this year (1.90) before getting called up. He looked like AT LEAST a #3 starter in limited opportunity at the big league level this year before getting hurt.
The Rockies GM has already mentioned the possibility of Pomeranz (who has steamrolled the minors too) getting called up the bigs before this season ends as well.
I think White is a #2-3 starter, and Pomeranz will end up being a #1-3. And not in the distant future either. These guys will both be pitching in the majors by next season if they stay healthy.
Ubaldo might be a "sure thing" as a major league pitcher, but not as an ace. Outside of one-half of a season, the guy has looked like nothing close to a #1 starter. Aside from his 15-1 mark to begin last year, he has a career record of 41-44 and a career era of 3.95. He has great stuff that he throws very inconsistently, and has been a good, but not great, pitcher for his career. -
bases_loadedHow many times has fuck you do me struck out for us? It has to be twice as much as he did before the trade...jesus christ.
