Reds were possibly talking trade with Blue Jays (Votto for Bautista)

JawbreakerI'm just glad the Reds didn't trade Votto away in 2008.

Ty WebbIf you know he is not going to resign after 2012, then you have to trade him and get value back for him.
He is going to Toronto anyway if he gets to FA, so you have to trade him. -

With Cueto, for Bedard? Yeah, that would've sucked a big one.Jawbreaker;850575 wrote:I'm just glad the Reds didn't trade Votto away in 2008. -

Yes, that was the talk at the time. Wasn't Homer Bailey also being talked about in that deal? -

Bailey was rumored I think to the White Sox. HOFer Hal McCoy said he got duped on that one. He reported that a trade was imminent but it never materialized. In comments since then he either got intentional erroneous information from a source to help push something else along from the other organization or the source just flat out got it wrong. -
Ty WebbFound something from MLBTradeRumors about the Bedard rumors.
Baltimore wanted Joey Votto, Homer Bailey, Johnny Cueto and Edwin Encarnacion. -

That would've set the franchise back 10 years. -
NateI hope Joey never leaves but it is going to happen I have a feeling.

They have until the trade deadline 2013 to make a move. I'm sure they will start working on a deal well before that, so they will have a good idea of his intentions by then. Assuming he keeps playing like he has been, someone will give up the farm for him.Ty Webb;850599 wrote:If you know he is not going to resign after 2012, then you have to trade him and get value back for him.
