You guys need to forget about prospects...its not like you'll never have one again lol you just got a stud pitcher for 2,5 years and you're worried about AAA players???

It might hurt that AAA dynasty the tribe has been building :)

This is what I've been thinking and hoping.

If they don't win the division the next couple years and Pom and White go on to be studs, then we made a bad trade. Most prospects never make. Look at the "can't miss prospects" that were hyped up during the last decade for the tribe. Most of them do nothing at the major league level.

    Yup.

Now time to sit back and wait for an entertaining counter argument.

Donald called up to replace OC and starting at 3rd base.

    Who are they giving up?

I'm afraid to here who it is....
  • devil1197
    No names yet.

Again, I'm not going to bitch about giving up prospects who may or may not live up to the hype.. Alex Miller made 3 starts and hasn't played since. Adam Miller?

Jaret Wright? We all heard about how good Jeremy Guthrie and Jeremy Sowers would be...

Drew Pomeranz is an unkown. Sure, he's dominating low minor league level guys, but who knows how well his arm will hold up? Who knows what he'll do in the bigs?

I'm tired of banking on next year. I'm tired of building for the future... Who knows when we'll be 1.5 games out of 1st in late July again? Winning seasons aren't guaranteed. The Tribe FO saw an opportunity to get better THIS year and NEXT and they took it.

You make the playoffs and you throw Jiminez/Masterson/Tomlin out there and ANYTHING can happen.

You make some good points. But you're also banking on Jimenez coming in and being the pitcher he was in the 1st half of last season.

I don't expect that, his numbers were filthy and some of the best pitchers in the league currently aren't putting up those numbers.

But he is a sure fire upgrade to our rotation.

I posted his stats since June 1st. He's made 10 starts going 6-4 with a 3.1 ERA (2.something on the road)

I don't count his start yesterday. He went to the mound with his mind on where he was going and a guy warming up in the bullpen behind him.
  • royal_k
I can't argue that he is an upgrade, because he definitely is.

And his stats for the last couple of months show he's coming back.

I just have a problem with what we gave up.

You gotta give up good prospects to get an ace-quality pitcher...I mean what the hell did u guys expect? You asked for the FO to make a move and they did...you're not gonna get a "pau gasol" type trade

I was watching "All Bets are Off" yesterday and an Indians fan wondered why they couldnt trade for Pence. Two of the names he thought might get it done were Sizemore and Luis Valbuena. Some people dont understand that you have to give up value to get value

Other reports say that Wandy Rodriguez is being talked to now, as well as ludwick.

Wow if they could get Wandy too? That would be great for the franchise. I'd be calling that GM too after some of the stuff I've been hearing on espn. Olney was basically saying they got their pants taken down in both the Bourn and Pence trades
  • hoops23
Reports now that Wandy deal has cooled off. Astros not confident in moving him by 4pm, but he could be traded in August since he'd clear waivers with his hefty contract.
  • devil1197
He has passed his physical and the deal is set.

We gave up more than anyone gave us for CC or Lee (I know CC was only a half year). Both are way better than Ubaldo, and were way more proven.

You just said CC was half a year so you can't compare those two...Lee I could be wrong but didn't he pitch just 1 good year? Ubaldo has pitched 3 or 4 solid seasons

Lee won 18 games and was 4th in the CYA in his second season in the bigs. His only bad year was 2007.

While you cant compare CC, he is a much better pitcher than Ubaldo. Like I said, I dont mind the trade, I think it drastically improves this team. I just think we gave up way more than we needed to.

My biggest beef is with the FO getting a fucking pitcher, when we need a bat like no ones business. We arent gonna do shit with 5 Walter Johnsons until we can get more than 5 runs in a series versus the fucking Royals.

Being 1.5 games out is irrelevant. The team doesn't have the talent to contend for a championship. If "anything can happen" then it can happen with the people you have. The moves this team made do not give them a much better chance at winning a championship.
