Red vs. Giants - Game 1

Bruce, leading off the 8th, needing to get on, swings at ball 4 on the 3-1 pitch!

The Reds seriously miss big Arthur Rhodes out of the bullpen. Granted, Country is old now, but he was a force for them for the past couple seasons.

Good thing Hanigan kicked the 2' bunt -- saved a 2-6-3 DP after Alonso's great AB for a lead-off hit!

WP gives the Reds the same thing they would have had if the bunt would have worked. But Stubbs can't make contact and gets the typical K! Leaves it to Heisey.

Win or lose...typical Dustyball overwhelms good thoughts. First inning and the entire 1st 8 hitters....not a damn one of them swung at the first pitch (100% planned by Dusty I presume to get things going....and it works....but then after wearing on the pitcher they give him a 5 pitch inning, an 11 pitch inning and back to their ways the rest of the game. It's unbelievable.

And we go to extras and maybe rain to mess up the game continuity and the fireworks.

I definitely miss not having Arthur Rhodes. Should have gotten his last year or two out of him.

Yes, and I wonder how the Phils got to Charlie Morton. I'm guessing that it was by not swinging at all those low sinkerballs!

    Chapman unavailable.

Just flat out have to give credit to Sandoval....goodness 6 for 6 off of Cordero....and it was a good pitch down and away....
  • Ironman92
I wish Votto would've let the GG second baseman get it.
  • Ironman92
Cordero has some good stuff tonight.

I disagree, it was the right thing to let him go somewhere else. 5.01 ERA in 23 innings is not worth 3.9 million.

Great base running technique by Sandoval, but not sure it was worth that risk to get to 3rd with two out.

    Excellent base running by Sandoval.

    Good instincts make good decisions.

Cordero too scared of the guy who got the tying hit!
  • Ironman92
Pound this little guy with that 93 mph backup Maddux fastball!
  • Ironman92
Well Mike Fontenot proved he was indeed Mike Fontenot.

But he did a good job getting the next guy!

SEEMS like the Reds only win extra inning games in the 10th.
  • Ironman92
4 straight games with a HR?....probably not, maybe Phillips.
  • mhs95_06
Great AB by Joey to draw the lead-off walk against that side-arming lefty!
  • mhs95_06
I bet Bruce will be futile against this lefty.
  • mhs95_06
Send BP on the first pitch, then suicide squeeze on the 2nd pitch with Bruce!
