Yeah, his career is over basically. That really sucks.

Add the Columbus mayor to the mix...definitely not going to be news regarding any club personnel changes.

This will be news regarding either: stadium naming, stadium renovations, new stadium, new ownership, future MLS All-Star site, or another major let down announcement.

Anyone know when the Crew lottery results for the USA v Mexico game are supposed to come out? I know it is sometime today.

Found this redesign on the Crew...thought it looked alright, don't know why they'd change the sponsor though.

    New ownership. Anthony Precourt.

Precourt Sports Ventures assumes ownership effective immediately...

This is primarily a soccer investment group. Nice. Anthony Precourt is the managing director of the group.

I don't see it happening. He seems pretty loyal to Columbus. The Hunts also seem pretty keen on selling to someone who would keep the team in Columbus. Having the mayor involved also was a nice gesture to say "staying in Columbus."

But...that all can change rather easily. I guess the good thing is, the guy has ties to other areas that already have teams -- other than San Francisco. So, it's not like he'll move the team to his "hometown." I would be shocked if the club was moved.

The MLS cannot let one of it's charter members leave a town. They can't afford to make fan bases angry

At 9pm ET on ESPN2, the MLS All Stars take on AS Roma.

My ticket application was unsuccessful. Fack.

@ColumbusCrew: More than 9,000 members of #USMNT supporter groups will occupy 27 sections of #Crew96 Stadium on Sept. 10. RT if you're one of them!

Gonna make for a great atmosphere

Not only that they turned 2x the alloted amount away for tickets. Crazy. That place will be rocking. Hopefully there will be very few mexican fans
  • ohiobucks1
My 12 tickets are getting more and more expensive

seriously though, it's going to be damn near impossible for me to sell them for huge profits and not have it go to a Mexican fan, so I might just sell them to guaranteed USA fans for like 200-250 per

Wtf? Seems as if he wouldn't be for that at all after last years insistence on moving to a competing top 4 club. That pissed me off, with it being a World Cup year...

Dempsey would rather play in the MLS than play for AVB. lulz.
  • Automatik
Wow. I'm sad to hear about that Dempsey move.

    What a shitty downgrade.

Frankly I don't think it'll mean a WHOLE lot in terms of the USMNT for the next WC. He's on the team regardless, and at least this way he's going to get a ton of playing time, potentially with a teammate in Eddie Johnson. Granted, it's a big downgrade in competition, but he knows what he'll be facing in the WC, and as long as he's training hard in Seattle, he should keep his form pretty high. Plus, I'm happy that MLS has another "name" player to attract people to the domestic league as I desperately want it to succeed and become more popular - it's a good step in the right direction for the game at home.

That said, Dempsey probably could've made it onto another mid-tier EPL team for a year or two more before coming back (since he's 30 and honestly, an EPL team probably doesn't take a flyer on a mid-tier international player past age 32). Oh well.

Is it really that much of a downgrade? Yes, maybe in terms of overall "prestige" it is. But, Dempsey wants to play. He needs to play. If he's not playing, he's not getting ready for the World Cup. Training is great, sure...but, at his level and need, it's playing time. I am sure Jurgen has been helping him along the way in choosing what is best for him in preparation for the World Cup. This isn't a dumb move in that regard. Maybe he'll be well rested? Maybe he'll be healthier? Heck, maybe it'll set him up for a better move than Tottenham?

Look at what MLS has done for many players...and, look at what Seattle did for Fredy Montero. Look at Brek. Rumor has it that Graham Zusi has turned down moves abroad to stay home. And, others have chosen to stay here because of the ability to stay domestic for training with USMNT amongst other comforts.

That's really where you could have stopped.
