LOL. I've gotta buy this magazine to read all of this shit.Tiger2003;830387 wrote:I love this quote talking about Troy Polamalu. "He's the one guy in football I respect absolutely, 'cause he's spiritual and lives it like he talks it. You know, he gets more flags than anyone on our team but never gets fined for nothin'. He's so polite and talks so softly that he could tell Goodell to kiss his a--, and Goodell would smile and say thank you," he told the magazine. -
Y-Town SteelhoundI wonder if the Steelers will be hypocritical again or if he will actually get the Joey Porter/Santonio Holmes treatment...
Personally I've never respected Harrison or his game so this article doesn't surprise me. His picture in the magazine with brandishing two guns (real nice for the little Steelers fans like my 10 year old nephew who look up to you James), and his comments confirm only what I always believed to be true: He's a reckless thug who runs around torpedoing people with his helmet and cries like a little girl when he gets fined. His comments on Godell don't bother me, he has a right to his opinion on that. Calling out your teammates though publicly as well as the asinine notion that he gets fined more for when he illegally hits white players (wasn't his biggest fine after the Massaquoi hit?) paints the picture of a guy who clearly doesn't "get it". He blames everything bad that happens to him on everyone but himself...that much cannot be debated, and for that I have no respect for the man. -

LOL, nice cop out. I'm all for hard hits as long as they're not ILLEGAL hits (you know the ones harrison dishes out commonly). If I were teaching my son the fundamentals of the linebacker position, the last video I'd show him is James Harrison tapes. He does not understand the concept of a form tackle.
Perhaps a visual example would help your brain comprehend....
Here's a devastating hit by Patrick Willis. Notice the form here, this is a legal football tackle. Arms wrap, shoulders into the carrier's chest, driving the feet forward. This is what a hit is supposed to look like (no surprise coming from a great linebacker like Willis). Now he does catch some facemask here, but he's not LEADING with his helmet. Big difference

Now here's Harrison's hit on Massaquoi for which he was fined. Great "fundamentals" on this tackle. No wrapping of the arms, no hit and drive, just leading with the head and delivering the blow to the opponents head (textbook helmet-to-helmet hit which is illegal). Difference from Willis' hit is that he's clearly leading with his helmet and his intent is to smash the receiver's helmet. His arms and shoulders indicate he had no intention of performing an actual "tackler". That isn't "hard nosed football", that's just fucking reckless. Guy delivers "big hits" but is not a fundamental tackler. Maybe that's why he only had 1 tackle in the Super Bowl.

Maybe I'm an old school football purist, but what Harrison does is not good defense. So my advice to you, bigred, is to back to jacking off to NFL Blitz...because in real life you are dealing with people's careers and lives. -
royal_kBig difference in the 2 hits. And the Willis hit is def clean...the other, not so much.

killer_ewokHarrison responds to the Men's Journal story (and the reaction)......
I’ll start by offering my apologies for some of the words that I said during the four days in May that Men’s Journal was invited to my house to discuss what the NFL has recently been portraying as their attempts at ‘layer safety’ rules and regulations, and to cover my everyday workout routine.
I did make comments about my teammates when I was talking about the emotional Super Bowl loss, but the handful of words that were used and heavily publicized yesterday were pulled out of a long conversation and the context was lost. Obviously, I would never say that it was all Ben’s or Rashard’s fault that we lost the Super Bowl. That would be ridiculous. Both Ben and Rashard are great players and great teammates. Clearly the entire team bears responsibility for the loss, me included. It was a team effort and a team loss. My teammates know me well, and hopefully understand the things I said were not meant to accuse them of the loss. We all have discussed several things that went wrong in the Super Bowl since that day. What I do apologize for and take full responsibility for is for speaking in such a candid manner to someone outside the team.
I also need to make clear that the comment about Roger Goodell was not intended to be derogatory against gay people in any way. It was careless use of a slang word and I apologize to all who were offended by the remark. I am not a homophobic bigot, and I would never advocate intolerance of gay people.
As far as the photo that was shown on air yesterday, collecting guns is a hobby of mine, and I advocate the responsible use of firearms. I believe in the right to bear arms. I like to go to the shooting range. I like to hunt. I like to fish. I could just as easily have posed with my fishing poles but it obviously wouldn’t be an interesting picture for the magazine. I am not promoting gun violence by posing for that photo. There are also other photos in the magazine story that were not shown on air yesterday – including me with my sons, with my mom and as a kid.
Unfortunately, the above items and other comments have detracted from the original purpose of the story – a position I have been advocating for some time now. If player safety is the NFL’s main concern, as they say it is, they are not going about it in an effective manner. There’s nothing about extending the season or issuing exorbitant fines on defensive players that makes any shift toward the prevention of injury to players.
I believe that the league may have been feeling increasing pressure about injuries and concussions last year, and that they panicked and put rules in place that weren’t fully thought out. I’m not advocating more flags and fines, I’m just saying that the current rules are not completely fair, and I don’t believe in the way that the league is handling their position as overseer of the NFL and the well-being of its players.
As far as the character and reputation hits I may suffer as a result of my comments in the article, I’ll take those hits and more if it brings increased attention to the re-examination and installation of rules and regulations that would create a REAL impact on player safety. -

+infinity. my high school coach would threaten to kick players off of the if they lead with their helmets. Not only is it dangerous to the player you are tackling, but its very dangerous to yourself. We would work on form tackling all the time during two a days. -

More like Harrison's publicist responds to Men's Journal story -
Prescott
It is good defense and a clean hit. His job is to dislodge the ball, which he did. The Browns QB is to blame for leading his WR into Harrison and the WR cowered down when he saw the hit coming. Harriosn did nothing wrong.Maybe I'm an old school football purist, but what Harrison does is not good defense. -

I mean considering he pretty much absolutely destroyed BigRed on this thread, it probably doesn't suck to be him. Or atleast it doesn't suck as much as it sucks to be BigRed -
GoPensThings can't be too bad between him and Ben. He went to Ben's wedding today.

Now, I'm all for giving credit where credit is due, but destroying that guy in a message board argument is about as tough as putting up points on a 1-AA school in NCAA football while you're playing with any national championship-contending powerhouse. -

We "Stillers" will contend for an AFC championship this year and Super bowl this year .... We will contend 4 the same in 2012 . We will contend again in 2013,3014,2015,and 2016 and probably further on after that ... Thank you Mr Harrison for putting those Browns where they belong!!!!! You the man #92 keep up the good work .. We fans will start a fund raising drive especially for you if you keep planting those Browns into the ground !!!!!
PS yes that did say 3014 I figured why change it .. Its really not a typo!!!
