Reds @ Brewers: Game 1

se-alumBailey(3-3) vs. Narveson(5-5)
Rumor that Cozart may be up for the game.
Hopefully Bailey can go 7 or 8, the bullpen is a bit spent after last night. -
justincredibleReds win 0 to -3

Ironman92Cozart would add some needed freshness.

Cozart: The cure for that not-so-fresh feeling. -
thavoiceIf Cozart comes up what do you all think will happen?
They going to rely on Cozart and Renteria?
WIll they bring up BP relief today? DFA Renteria, send down volquez and bring up a reliever because of the long game last night. Then when EV spot comes up move a reliever down and bring up the DTrain?
If they keep Renteria who starts? Gonna throw in Cozart? Yawnish is a punch-and-judy hitter. This year he looks like an overmatched Jr High kid at bat. Do they send him down from now through the break (reds get 4 days off) so he can play every day, get consistant at bats and then over the next week try to unload Renteria or DFA him? -
Ironman92Keep Renteria, give Cozart most starts if he's doing better than Edgar. Send down Janish, put him on HGH or teach him some off speed pitches.

justincredibleDFA Renteria. Yesterday.

Don't know if this guy is a legit inside source, but he seems to have inside knowledge about the Cozart/Renteria/Janish move.

@johnfayman //The Cozart part is done as of yesterday, the Renteria part is causing tension within. Could be interesting...

Taht was on a site i have moderated for years......www.themaconline.com.....about the best small school conference in OHIO -
se-alumYea, rumors are swirling. Fay says, "A Zach Cozart is registered at team hotel."
-
TigerNation10Sounds official.
RT @YonderalonsoU: Congrats To my friend an teammate Cozart got the call up!!! -
Midstate01Cozart is up, bigger question is, who is leaving?

Ironman92For very few reasons I could argue...I do not like DFAing Renteria. Janish is not the one to show Cozart or replace Cozart or be available to PH later in the game. I'm sure Renteria has battled Dusty some and Dusty doesn't like that....but there is just something about keeping him around. Janish looks overmatched during every at bat and seems shaky in the field for maybe worry of being sent down.......whatever the case, with Cozart up...Renteria should be the guy remaining on the roster and not Janish. JMO

SportsAndLadyWalt went against his entire reason for signing Renteria (if he did in fact DFA Renteria, which sounds like that's what he did).

Renteria is hitting .229 and terrible in the field. Janish is hitting .227 and is above average in the field. I'll take the late game defensive replacement over the guy hitting .002 points better.Ironman92;823647 wrote:For very few reasons I could argue...I do not like DFAing Renteria. Ironman92If the Reds were to win this shitty division....Renteria would be more valuable in the playoffs, but it just won't matter at all with Dusty leading the way.

Janish has been shaky in the field, yet capable of the great play. Janish has never proven anything in MLB......I'd take Renteria over Janish the rest of the year and for the playoffs. If there is any chance of making the playoffs...I want Renteria around. Hell his karma of having all of his teams making the playoffs outweight what Janish can do. -
Ty WebbRenteria is the player leaving according to the rumor mill.

INsert the playoffs rant by Jim Mora right now.Ironman92;823663 wrote:If the Reds were to win this ****ty division....Renteria would be more valuable in the playoffs, but it just won't matter at all with Dusty leading the way.
In all seriousness....DFA Renteria is the way to go. Yawnish is better in the field, and can be MUCH better than he is fielding now. If this team was humming along then you have the luxury to keep a guy around like Renteria. ANother reason you DFA him is what if Cozart flat out sucks? We want Renteria to be the starting SS? No way. -
Ironman92Then you'd just call Janish back up.
Renteria may be over the hill but he's still as good all-around baseball player as Janish.....not much of a statement I know. Janish is really bad. the fact that his defense has slipped a good bit the past month makes his value awesome.
As for the playoffs.....75 games left and this division absolutely sucks bitch tits. The God awful Reds led by Dinglebaker has more than a shot of making the playoffs. It's sad, but it's true. -
thavoiceMy bad....I thought you insinuated DFA Yawnish.
Still.....It comes down to whom we want on the roster now. I dont think they will insert Cozart as the starter right away and give him the reigns. He may get some spot starts and see how it goes before inserting him full time.
Do you want Renteria or Yawnish as the starter as Cozart gets his feet wet? I prefer Yawnish for whatever reason. The being good in the postseason doesnt mean anything to me at this point as the team is treading water. -
Ironman92Screw the wet feet! I'd bring up Cozart (and God Damnit let him play...don't Janish or Heisey him).....he could have 20 starts in by the trade deadline. Let him struggle or star, but let's see what he's made of. I hate when they baby along players. If they aren't strong enough mentally to struggle and maybe be sent back down....I don't want them playing SS!
I'd start Cozart 6/7 games and keep Renteria to start that one other and for PH purposes. Let Cozart show us what he can do in all types of situations. Worst case scenario should be for Cozart to get 4/7 starts. If they bring him up and share time......the other guy better be playing significantly better for that to happen. I would pull him aside and say, "kid your up because you belong and you are going to make mistakes and you are going to keep playing in the big leagues for the forseeable future regardless of those mistakes......show us what you got and have some fun. Then maybe let him chew on one of Dusty's Australian chewing sticks. -
Ironman92As tweeted by former Expos player Razor Shines.....Cozart is up, will bat 7th and his walk up song will be Edge of Glory by Lady Gaga.
