Boo interleague play

  • hasbeen
The mariners are 5-9 in this crap.

Let's get back to the American League.
  • Heretic
Pirates were 8-7 this year, so it's good!

As opposed to last year, when they were 2-13 and interleague play was the work of the devil and anyone who liked it needed purged.

The biggest thing I have against interleague play is the non-use of the DH in NL parks.

The biggest thing I have against baseball in general is the use of the DH in AL parks.

BTW...the Mariners are 8-9 in interlegue play.

    lol...good answer

Hafner hasn't played in field since 2007. That is insane. Pretty much eliminates a big bat from games. What happens if the Indians reach the World Series this year? He's hitting almost .340 this year but will be limited to pinch hitting duties.

Where are you getting 8-9 from?
    vs. Phi 2-1
    vs. Wash 0-3
    vs. Fla 2-1
    vs. Atl 0-3
    vs. SD 1-1

Yeah, his inability to play the field is what really sucks. But he really can't throw the ball. His shoulder injury has made it impossible. Definitely a big concern if they were to make it that far.

I haven't looked at their schedule...just going by the standings from mlb.com that says 8-9.

They swept 3 from the Padres in late May.

Seattle swept SD in May, there's the other 3 W's

Ahhh I didn't check back there.

Well, we're 5-9 in this last stretch and it sucks!

    I love snobby NL fans.

Rag on someone who doesn't (or can't) play the field all you like -- I'd still rather see a game where a pitcher has to potentially face 9 real hitters than one where they can basically use one-third of the line-up to consistently get outs because most pitchers hit like 8 year old girls.

    B-O-R-I-N-G.

lol, snobby? I wasn't ragging on anyone. I was pointing out that Hafner is pretty much useless in NL parks. I don't have anything against him. I'd prefer both leagues play by the same rules, and not have the DH. Look down your nose at the BORING NL some more, snob.
  • royal_k
My original post was not only based on liking the AL rules better, but the AL pitchers hitting are at a big disadvantage. They are not used to hitting and running the bases, which leads to injuries....like Carmona yesterday.
  • royal_k
I would just like to see a rule put in that you have the choice to use the DH, no matter where you are playing.....including the WS.
  • dazedconfused
i dont really care what set of rules they use, just make it uniform for both leagues

A pitcher is actually one-ninth of the outs if they go 0-3. Not sure where one-third came from.

I'd prefer uniform rules, but with where the game has gone, I would rather see the DH than not.

Back in the day, when pitchers could actually hit the ball, it was obviously not a problem to have them bat and it made sense.
I don't find it any more "pure" of a game in the NL TODAY because they have to work around an automatic out since pitchers have become specialists and can't hit shit.
  • karen lotz
If they hit into 3 triple plays they are responsible for 1/3 of the outs. Since they are such horrible hitters, that's probably what he was trying to say.

Im in the minority, but I like interleague play, and I like to see how teams adjust to each league's rules. My only knock on interleague play is the unfair scheduling. Each team plays 18 interleague games, and 18 games can make a huge difference in a divisional pennant race.

    I agree with this.

I am sorry. Carmona is a professional baseball player. The man should be able to run 90 feet.

With that said, I enjoy interleague play. While it sucks that AL teams can use their DH in NL park, the AL also has a huge advantage at home because NL teams DH is typically their best pinch hitter.
