Reds at Rays game 1

mhs95_06Leake comes back from 3-0 to the first batter in the 5th to get him out on a grounder.

Something has got to be done w/ Stubbs, maybe an "injury" so he can get some work in w/o being an automatic out.
He's not "automatic".....he typically takes 4 or 5 pitches to get him. -
Ironman92Leake has more "game" than about anyone....it backfired a little there....but the kid is a ball player.
Could you imagine Aaron Harang trying that move? -
mhs95_06The way Leake went after that nubber down the 1B line shows he really strongly wants to get an out when he gets the batter to mis-hit the ball. He made a bad choice to try to do it all himself by tagging where he thought the runner would be. He should have just tossed it to the bag for the out. He is athletic enough he could have got in position to make an accurate toss.

Ironman92Drew Stubbs....home to first 3.62

Probably would have resulted in a season ending injury! -

I'll guess Mike Leake as the best soccer player on the field. -

Im going with cueto. -
mhs95_06Another ump who doesn't give the out call just because the ball beats the runner. You'd think Stubbs could see the fielder going up in front of the base to get the ball and slide to the very outside of the base, but no he still goes straight in. If either the fielder or the base-runner plays it properly they would have been successful and gotten the call in their favor. Why does the fielder leave the base to get a ball coming right to the base, and coming such that it gets there way quicker than catching it in front and then have to move the glove back to the base?

SportsAndLadyEveryone but.votto and janish have struck out at least once...but still a good.efficient offensive game so far
-
mhs95_06Dusty needs to get someone loosening in the bull-pen with the lead-off double in this part of the order. Leake can go quick!
-
davelmao just got in from cutting the grass to see that.
-
mhs95_06Leake made a great pitch on the 2-2 to Joyce, but doesn't get the strike 3 call. Then a Joyce well hit ball to LCF turns into a double play with inept base running by the Rays, and Leake gets his 6th straight zero on the board.

daveone day we will all be lucky enough to see jay bruce make that play on the bases.

Janish is pretty much Tony Gwynn...for those of you too young to see Tony in his hey day. -

It's been some time and I think by the Rangers.....but someone hit a HR and the runner on first was passed by the HR hitter. -

I remember that. I saw it happen in little league once in person on a homer as well. -
mhs95_06I hope they play like that with Price and Shields on the mound the next couple nights!
