    HOLY SHIT!!! 18 is a 523 yard par 4?
  • Ironman92
Rory....one of the most impressive weekends of golf ever...wow

awesome shooting by mcilroy. anytime you invoke memories of tiger at pebble, you know you've done something truly special. also, i think jason day's performances in these two majors is very underrated. two majors, two second place finishes. i think he finally pulls through and wins the pga

Jason Day played a good enough tournament to win...even down the stretch...had McIlroy not brought us memories of history.

45 straight holes of nothing worse than par to end a US Open...making a huge name without winning.

It rained every night. They didn't water the course at all once the Open started, trying to get it to firm up. They didn't really have a chance to make it play like they wanted given the weather conditions.

There was nothing the USGA could do about the slow greens, but they did have a lot of tees set WAY forward, and they definitely had the rough too short.
  • dazedconfused
yea, i didnt get the forward tees. what's the point of having the second longest course in us open history if you're not going to use it?

Definitely agree on this. Same with pin placements. The rough should have been 50% longer, with the recent rain it would have been nice and thick. Nobody wants to watch a US Open where half the field shoots under par the final round. When Tiger dominated Pebble I think that course was damn near impossible. I keep hearing Rory's performace being compared to that when it wasn't even close to the same.

I agreed with your post until your comparison statement. I don't care what kind of shape the coarse was in. McIlroy was far better than any other golfer in the tournament. You can't take that away from him. The rough could have been 3 feet deep and he still would have dominated. He was playing from the fairways on most holes.

Tees were moved forward so others could make a run at Rory. No one did.
  • ts1227
It wasn't as impressive as Tiger's in that Tiger was the only person even under par in that tournament, and was like -12 to boot.

However, Rory still won the fucker by 8, led wire to wire, and 3 putted once all weekend. It's damn impressive.
  • dave
I agree it was really impressive, but really it was just like winning another pga tour event. It's a lot easier to play with a huge lead when you know it's almost impossible to put up a double or triple bogey.
  • bases_loaded
He was eight shots better than the best players in the world for 4 rounds. Impressive
  • Ironman92
It is much easier...but he had a 6 shot lead last major and lost it in 3 holes and was painful to watch him play as they kept showing him....his bounce back in a similar situation was off the charts....just ask Greg Norman

Didnt Tiger win by 15? Nuff said. Rory's win is impressive but takes second place to Tiger's.

    It's basically straight down hill.

Not to mention Pebble in 2000 was 138373726262626% tougher than was Congressional this week.

yea, mcilroy was good this week but comparing anything to tiger in 2000 is insulting to tiger's greatness at that time. that was probably the best golf ever played
  • wildcats20
Tiger was -12, won by 15 strokes. NO OTHER PLAYER WAS UNDER PAR.

There were 20 player under par this week.
