111th US Open

Just checked it on scorecenter and looked like Rory double bogeyed the last hole. Hopefully he can keep his composure and not fall apart like at the Masters.

He didn't miss a shot the entire time I got to watch at lunch, then he steps up on 18 tee and hooks one into the left rough. He caught a break and wasn't blocked out by the trees and had an opening to the right portion of the green and hooked it again left into the water. I left after that, but it wasn't going to be an easy up and down for his 5, and obviously he didn't.

Golf is very fickle.....10 shots is not safe at all on mid Friday.

He lost what a 6 shot lead in 3 holes at the Masters. Right now he's taking a lot of players out of it.

Yeah he got unlucky on his drop. First time he dropped, the ball rolled back into the hazard, second time it hung up and left him a pretty awkward stance. Hit a decent shot but the pin is in a tricky spot for shots coming in from that angle.

lol....my vbookie 1000 bet put the absolute kiss of death on Geoff Ogilvy.....he's +9...lol

I hope is he able to hold on for the last two days. He is ridiculously talented and I'd hate to see him have 2 collapses like it would be at majors in such a short time. He is playing unreal, I think he has missed 4 greens so far? Stupid at a US Open.

i saw that, it looked like he and his caddy couldn't believe it got held up and and didn't roll back into the hazard so he could place, although it didn't seem like he was going to be able to place it anywhere that the ball still wouldn't have been way above his feet.

He is playing insane....I don't particularly like him....but what he is doing is extremely significant in his sport.

He reminds me of the cocky english soccer players at Rio Grande when I was there. They didn't look athletic at all and were pretty smug about things....but they thought we were smug for our thoughts on soccer. I had nearly every physical education type class with them...and it turned out they were extremely athletic and good at about everything. (Duh I guess since a little college went oversees to get athletes for Soccer)

I really don't see McIlroy as smug. Now Martin Kaymer, that's a smug SOB.

McIlroy is pretty cocky....that's OK....he goes -14 and wins by 6 I'm still going to appreciate it and be happy for him......but he fits the bill as smug in my book.
  • bases_loaded
He's not cocky he's confident. As he should be. He blew a major at 22. Big deal he will win multiple. He is probably tired of answering the same question over and over for 6 weeks.

I hope he implodes. Nothing would make me happier this weekend.

I hope he wins going away. I don't get the cocky stuff. He is ultra talented.

Pains me to say it, but this.

Any pro athlete with a damn has that confidence and sometimes a little swagger.

really? what has he done that would make you wish that on him?
  • karen lotz
No kidding, Webb Simpson shot 66 today and they showed only his approach into 18 and that was only because his drive ended up in a spectator's lap. There is some good golf being played and they refuse to show it.

NBC needs to stop covering sports, or kill Dick Ebersol, or both.

Luckily Ebersol is on his way out.

At least they didn't insist on showing it on tape delay?

Rory with 3 wood off number 1 tee. Don't like it, unless that's what he's hit first two rounds. Needs to stay on the gas. If he gets to -14, no one can catch him.
  • dazedconfused
great par from mcilroy on three
  • Classyposter58
ESPN's coverage of the first 2 rounds is far superior to the last 2 on NBC

Rory going for the 15 stroke victory mark set by Tiger now
  • SportsAndLady
    No ones catching him
  • gerb131
    That gallery is mighty impressive.
  • gerb131
Not as impressive as that shot by Rory
  • Ironman92
    Finishing touch.
