Larry or Dirk?

said_aouitaIf you were to start a team, would you take Larry Bird or Dirk Nowitzki at their best?

Not even a question for me but I'm biased because Bird is my all-time favorite. -

Because he's got the greatest skillset of any 7 footer in the history of the league.
That being said, it's still Bird by quite a bit. -

Doesnt matter when you're comparing him to Larry Bird -

It absolutely DOES matter. A 7 footer that scores only 1.3 less points per game over a career than one of the all time greats and doing it without spending the majority of his time down in the paint is extremely impressive. -

I'm not saying it isnt impressive. What I am saying is that those numbers dont matter when you're comparing the guy to Larry Bird. My comment was that I dont think anybody could make an argument for picking Dirk. If you feel that you can, I would like to hear it. -

I personally can't, but you asked the question of how someone can, and I provided that answer. If someone feels that what Dirk does at 7 feet tall is more impressive than what Bird did, then that's your answer.
I don't believe it, but I don't feel it's unfathomable for some 14 year old who has never seen anything about Larry Bird to think that. -

Probably mine as well. -

14 years old? gimme a break
You just go ahead and assume that somebody can make an argument that you cant -
End of LineLarry Bird w/o a doubt.
-
like_thatlol at anyone who voted Dirk.
-
queencitybuckeyeThis isn't even close.

Al BundyDirk is having a great series, but the answer to the question is Bird, and it isn't even close. Dirk has had several playoffs where he has disappeared. Bird did more against much better competition.
-
HereticDirk's great and all and right now is probably playing as good as he ever has (definitely as good as he ever has in clutch playoff situations), but he's not on Bird's level.

And Larry has the greatest skill set of any 6-10 player in history. Whats 2 inches....?? Larry is a better rebounder, shooter, and passer. Imo, the second greatest player of all time. There is simply no argument.lhslep134;778565 wrote:Because he's got the greatest skillset of any 7 footer in the history of the league.

This sounds exactly like Larry, but the Hick did it better. Larry had post moves, but lets not go and call him a banger, despite being a PF. -

I'm not disagreeing. I said Bird is better. But KR couldn't fathom how someone could possibly say Dirk, and all I'm saying there are a lot of ignorant people out there who think newest is best and that's why some people could say Dirk.
For the record, there's nothing more that irritates me when watching sports than listening to commentators throw around the word(s) "greatest, all time great, best I've seen" etc.
I blame ESPN a lot for sensationalizing it, and I know SQ thinks I'm sensationalizing Dirk being top 5 right now but I don't think I am. ANYONE saying Dirk is better than Bird is sensationalizing IMO. -

This is absolutely AWFUL logic. KR is right, NO ONE has a legit argument to take Dirk over Bird...just because some 12 year old says Dirk because he doesn't know what the fuck he's talking about, doesn't mean that is a legit argument. My little brother is 14 and says Lebron is better than MJ; he has no real arguments (because he's fucking 14), he just says Lebron. It doesn't make it a legit claim nor argument. -

No, he said he doesn't see how anyone can come up with an argument for Dirk. Being ignorant is not an argument. -

Yeah you're right
I guess I misinterpreted KR's post as someone arguing that Dirk is better with providing a sound argument.
There is no sound argument for Dirk being better. Only misguided opinion
