Game 12 - Cincinnati Reds (Travis Wood) at San Diego Padres (Tim Stauffer)

I'm surprised Francisco didn't try to turn two there lol They never would have got Bartlett, especially with Cairo at 2nd.
  • charliehustle14
Nick Masset needs to get lost for a while. Dude is a bum.
  • Azubuike24
I'm pretty sure if they credit Masset with the L, they will credit Chapman with the BS. Maybe I'm wrong.
  • Midstate01
    Fuck you Masset
  • Azubuike24
Can't that be an official scorer's discretion? To credit each with one instead of penalizing Masset?

Hate losing these kinds of games

    Bullpen gets us again.

I think the takeaway from watching Chapman over the past week or two is that he cannot pitch back to back for whatever reason

Don't understand Dusty's logic of Masset being able to get 6 outs
  • se-alum
So Dusty was willing to ride Masset right to the loss....smh.

So many shitty things about that game

*Heisey's shot bouncing over the wall. Cost the Reds a run and Heisey a 3B with 1 out
*Janish and Francisco not getting the job done with RISP and less than 2 outs. Pathetic effort by both. Janish hit like a total bitch today. 3 or 4 pop outs....I honestly lost track
*Votto's shot not getting out of the park. Fucking PETCO. That's a HR anywhere else.
    * Hanigan throwing to 2B. WTF dude, the only way you'll ever throw out Hudson is if it's on a pitch out. So fucking stupid
*Nick Masset. The guy is an instant game killer.

The Reds have lost 4 games. Nick Masset has 3 of them to his credit. Absurd.

The thing that gets me is they've only played 12 games and he already has 3 losses. That's an astronomical pace. Losing one out of every 4.

They need to put Smith or Ondrusek in the 8th and make Masset pitch long relief for a while and let him try and get some confidence back. We're seeing the same crap we saw last year out of Masset. Too much pussyfooting around.

Agreed. Smith and Ondrusek are both nails right now and I have complete confidence in them. They also appear to have complete confidence in themselves which is extremely important from a guy trying to keep a lead. Masset needs to get some outs without any pressure.

I don't believe there is a stat called a "blown hold". Even though you come in the game with intentions of not finishing it, and you give up the lead they give you a "blown save" becasue you could have gotten a save if you would have completed the game with the lead. the box score shows both a blown save(Masset's 3rd), and a loss(Massets 3rd).

Like Brantley said "If you can't throw strikes for the Reds, with their defense, who could you throw strikes for". All three innings in which the Padres scored individual runs, a key to each one was a walk. In two cases the walk put on the first runner of the inning on and his fielders choice replacement eventually scored. In the other case the walk moved the runner who scored from 2nd to 3rd with just one out.

Three losses and three blown saves, not all in the same games. With the Reds only having 4 losses total, that means that Masset has had a critical failure in at least as many games as the Reds have lost!

I was being only half serious. I know the box scores classify it as a blown save, it's a pet peeve of mine. No way Masset was in there with the intentions of finishing the game. He was in there simply to get the hold, so that's why I always call them blown holds, although they are blown saves.

Just as right now many have faith in Smith and Ondrusek, at some point confidence in them will wane and Massett will be the stopper.

Its a marathon not a sprint. Alls well, if there are no significant injuries. Massett is a pro he will turn it around come May. He always struggles in April.
  • Ironman92
How could anyone not trust Ondrusek? The guy has been rock solid for significant amount of time.

What does that even mean? The fans' confidence in them will wane, or their confidence in themselves will wane?
  • swamisez
    fans' confidence

I am trying to explain that over time players struggle and are lights out. Right now Massett is struggling, but that doesn't mean he should be written off. He has proven he has dominant stuff, and he will likely return to form. He will likely do so well at some point, that fans on here will want him closing instead of Coco Cordero. Because Coco will struggle at times as well.
  • SportsAndLady
So you're just stating the obvious..?

Fans aren't "writing off" Masset...we just realize he has a slow start to the year every year, so why should we be okay with Dusty playing him in tight game situations?

No. If you enter the game with the lead, and give it up, you get the Blown Save. Even if you inherited the runners, so it wasnt "your" run that scored. You get the blown save. I didnt see the game, so I dont know who gets it. But there is no discretion. W, L, and BS are all black and white.
