  I'm already tired of the public posturing in the hours since the union decertified. Goodell and the owners screwed the pooch. Adding 2 regular season games while stressing player safety was beyond laughable

  I can't believe what greedy fucks ALL of them are. Billions of dollars to divvy up and they let this blow up. It would be laughable if not for the stupidity of all involved.
  
  If they let this go on and ruin a season, people should stop supporting their insanity and simply stay away. Maybe if there isn't so much money they'd be a little smarter and less greedy.

  Seems a little bit overboard. Ya really dont know who oto believer. Owners reps say that the players wanted litigation all along. I think the truth, as usual, lies in the middle.
  I would like to know about the offer the players left on the table.

  I think it's evident that the players wanted litigation all along. From what I've seen, the owners tried to meet the players in the middle, but the players wouldnt budge from their position.

  The players would eventually come back. What else are they going to do? In 1987 the strike was only 3 weeks and many of the players came back to play in the replacement games by the third week. Once they miss one or two of those $100,000 checks every other week, they will be back.

  I wonder if they players believe that through litigation they will get a better deal. The NFL is the top league in the land and much of it has to do with how it is set up. I dont know, maybe they can win some anti trust lawsuits against the league but damn.....we always say we wish other sports was like the NFL in how it was set up with a cap, revenue sharing etc etc etc.
  
  They really want better healthcare for players when they are done. I can see that...but then I also think that is something in past negotiations they didnt push as much for in lieu of more money now.

  Sounds good...but need to know what split of the overall pot is what the players are looking at...and the benefits packages seem a little vague. I am thinking it sounds pretty good...but this is the word from the owenrs perspective

  Without pro sports you wouldnt get the type of people involved in college sports like you mentioned tha voice! Pro sports epitomize all things wrong with society! If you cant read or write and have a history of law breaking, no reason to head to college, it wont be a stepping stone anymore!

  One could spin it the other way. How many kids have gotten the chance to go to college soley because of their athletic prowess? I venture many, many more kids have gotten a college education soley on their ability in sports, and turned thier lives around, than that have went and became misfits of society.

Colleges would still want to win and attract players to do so, however it would take those that are forced to college, you know the NFL and the NBA putting rules in place to players in college 1 or 3 years and now those kids wouldnt even bother going to college unless they wanted to get an education. You didnt hear these kinds of problems in the 70's or earlier because pro sports hadnt grown into the major business it is now. Yes, there were problems, but not on the same level as today.
  
  I say, let the pro teams take kids from high school and be done with it.

  Exactly. Ya said that there are criminals in college because there are professional sports. I am saying that because of pro sports, and the interest in it, that many kids got to go to college and turn their lives around with a degree compared if there were no pro sports or attraction to it. We are both right believe it or not!
  
  As for comparing the 70's to right now.......well........there might be a correlation to race than we want to really get into. I think one thing, that is not particularly racial, is that kids at an earlier and earlier age are recognized because of their athletic ability, and are surrounded by people who wont tell them no and they are doing wrong. They get much more publicity than before at a younger age, and they get a sense of entitlement and they are above it all. The egos nowadays of the athletes seemed to be bigger than ever and its becuase of the attention they get. hell......the top recruite now have live TV showing when they announce what college they are coing to play at. Back in the day ya found out when they had a picture in the paper. That is a big reason nowadays as well.
  
  Also dont put it past that back in the day authorities allowed atheltes to walk and get away from things alot more.
