Whats your favorite sports moment you saw live?

  • Ender Wiggin
I would say watching my brother score 3 touchdowns and get 2 picks in the state championship game but that would be biased.

So I have to go with the 91 Long Jump duel between Mike Powell and Carl Lewis.

You almost never have a field event taking the spotlight over signature sprinting events but that night it was something special. The build up was amazing and these were 2 legends at the top of their game going 1 on 1. Every jump was back and forth. A bigger cheer for each round as they one upped each every step.

After Powells jump you knew it was a huge one, the anticipation on the stadium was evident. Then when it flashed 8.95 it erupted, I still to this day havent heard such a loud cheer in unison. Not any event, No Super Bowl, National Championship, World Series, NBA Finals(to be fair I wasnt paying a whole lot attention, fucking Lakers), Stanley Cup Final in Detroit nothing has compared to that.

    Epic in all ways.

Will Allen intercepting John Navarre's last pass in the 2002 OSU-Mich game that sealed a 14-9 win and sent OSU to the Fiesta Bowl. The entire stadium held its breath and then let loose the loudest cheer I have ever heard. It was incredible.

This was my first Browns football game I was able to attend live at Cleveland. I remember when this play happened a random guy jumped on my back and was yelling "we did it! we did it!"

I saw many memorable moments at the Atlanta Olympics. Michael Johnson running the 400m might be the top moment though.

I didn't see it in person but my all-time favorite moment I saw on TV as it was happening was back in the '08 Olympics when Phelps & company had that ridiculous comeback relay win. I think it was "only" Phelps' 3-4 medal at the time, but it was going to be the toughest to win.

I played against Russel and Wheelwright in HS. Sucks they never got their heads on straight, could've been very solid players
  • gorocks99
Yeah, if I remember correctly Russell had a few years with the Steelers and Ernie got a cup of coffee with the Ravens practice squad. Wheelwright made some crazy catches his freshman year for the Gophs but really dropped off after that.

OSU over UM #1 vs #2.

Yep. We opened our season with Walnut Ridge for like 6 years in a row. I was Varsity for 3 of those years.

Had a few friends that went to the Ridge. They've put out there fair share of athletes and prisoners.

Wasn't really a "moment," but holy crap what a game.

Davidson vs. Glenville in 2010 was pretty sweet

Easily one of these 2. Haston to beat #1 MSU was amazing, but I was there with my dad as a younger kid. Killingsworths dunk versus #1 Duke was the loudest place Ive ever been, and I was a student so it meant more. I thought the balcony was gonna collapse in the Duke game.

    On the HS level....

My brother scoring 5 TD....4 passing and a 50 yd rushing TD, in the football playoffs.
Coldwater beating nationally ranked tUYCM (Cardinal Mooney) in the state finals after being down by 2 td's, a few trick plays, and a blocked EP with under a minut to go to win 28-27.

    1. OSU beats Miami for the National Championship in 2003 in Tempe
    2. Mets beat Cubs to clinch 1986 National League East title (I was a kid, but I will never forget the Shea faithful storming the field)
    3. Nets NBA Finals in 2002 and 2003 -- went to three games, Nets went 0-3 haha, still was cool to see Shaq, Kobe, Duncan, Robinson, Kidd, etc
    4. I am no Yankee fan, but I was at the Yanks-BoSox game in 2004 when Jeter dove into the seats head first, Manny hit two bombs, etc
    5. OSU beats Notre Dame in 1995 - I climbed the goal post after the game, my photo still resides in Schmidts in German Village, Columbus
    6. Yankees-Mets, first ever Interleague matchup in 1997 at Yankee Stadium
    7. OSU NCAA tournament in Indianapolis in 1999, they beat two scrubs, but it was such fun experience
    8. Seton Hall- Georgetown in 1992 (I think), got to see Mourning and Motumbo play together, awesome time
    9. Mets beat Braves to clinch 2000 Wild Card (they year they went to the World Series)
    10. 1999 Memorial Tournament, got to see Tiger, Jack, etc, very cool

that was a hell of a game.

My top 2 have been mentioned earlier, but are easily my top football and basketball moments at OSU.

    1. 2006 - #1 Ohio State vs. #2 Michigan

    2. 2005 - Ohio State upsetting previously undefeated #1 Illinois in 2004
  • Pick6
My top two live moments would probably be..
OSU vs Oregon 2010 Rose bowl
    and
Akron vs Cal in the quarterfinals of this years soccer playoffs. After 2 overtimes, the game came down to penalty kicks(which Akron lost the national championship on the year before to Virginia). It was kind of cool/different because it was snowing and the field was covered. It had to be hard on those California boys. But we won and then went on to beat Michigan, and then Louisville to win the first ever school national championship and first MAC championship in 45 years.
