At the Accenture Match Play by Thomas Bjorn the #16 seed.
Well I thought he would win 2 majors this year so far not so much. -
ironman02Surprised that Tiger still doesn't have his game together. Still plenty of time before the Masters, but he needs to show some signs of improvement soon if he's gonna be a contender in the majors this season.

Yeah, he has built his swing from scratch again, and it's taking a while to get used to things. When he was with Haney, he seemed do be doing ok, but I think he has always missed Butch Harmon. When Tiger was working with Harmon, he was basically unbeatable. -

He has traditionally bowed out early at this event. I still think he's winning two majors this year, regardless of how he does in February -

Like I said before, there's still plenty of time until The Masters. But Tiger is clearly struggling, and I think a lot of it is mental. Sure he's in the process of getting used to his new swing, but I think he's lacking confidence. He's not used to going so long without winning. I hope he gets it going again soon because I want to see him break Jack's record. At one point, I thought it was a guarantee that he would win 19 majors. Now I'm really starting to worry. Again, though, it's still early in the season. -

I honestly don't see him winning another major in his career. He's getting older and he has never gone this long without having his game. Don't forget that a lot of Tiger's swing is built on his own athleticism and flexibility which tends to erode over time. Plus he's had a couple knee surgeries as well.
He'll still compete here and there but the dominant Tiger Woods we all saw for a number of years is dead and gone....and you can quote me on that. -

I think Tigers game has to go above and beyond what it has ever been for him to win 2 majors this year. Imo, there is more talent on the tour right now than there has ever been during Tigers career. -

I think people keep forgetting that Tiger went through a rough transition last time he changed his swing, and that was without the personal problems that he has faced in the last year and a half. Personally, it seems that Tiger's short game is what is really holding him back right now. I think he is focusing so much on the swing change, that his short game is suffering, and that is what made Tiger as dominate as he was. -

Somebody said he's relied on his athleticism and sheer will to win in the past. He's had some surgeries and a 9 iron in the jaw, so he's not the athlete he once was. He needs to concentrate on endorsements and building golf courses which are his new strength and talent.
One other small point...he only played a few tourneys last year with the new groove rules for clubs. He was complaining about his short game in the interview after his Bjorn match...I wonder if he's still adjusting to the new equipment and since eveyone else on tour plays two to three times as much as he does, he might be behind the curve on how to adapt to the new equipment rules. -

I said bowed out early. Don't care if it's 1st round or 3rd round, either way it's bowing out early relative to his talent. -

Tiger has the best record of anyone on Tour in this event. Something like 38-7. He has won the title 3 times, which is also the most. The event is only 11 years old. Tiger has owned the Accenture Match Play when he is playing well. -

He got bounced first round this year, lost 2nd round in '09, lost 3rd round '07, lost 3rd round '06. So 4 outta last 5 times he's played in this event he's lost in the 3rd round or earlier. Just sayin. -
dave09 was his first tourney since the ACL surgery. Just winning 1 round was impressive.
This isn't the NCAA tourney where a #1 seed plays a cupcake in round 1 and an average player in round 2. All these guys are great golfers. Saying getting to the 3rd round isn't impressive just shows how great the guy has been in this tourney. -

Nobody seems to mention that Phil, besides the Master's win and tying Tiger at the US Open, hasn't been in contention much, dropped in the rankings, missed cuts, and played pretty poorly in Ryder Cup up until his singles match. He has played about as poorly as Tiger but nobody seems to notice. -

Guess I just hold Tiger to a higher standard but his drop off has been pretty dramatic. Tough tourney yes, but aren't most golf fields?

09 was his first tournament. This year was bad. But how can winning 2 rounds be poor? Thats like saying you had a bad year if you get to the Sweet 16 and lose. Tiger has been as dominant in this tournament over his career than almost anywhere.
I mean, if the guy has the top record at the event of anyone on tour how can you say him losing round one isnt a surprise? -

Tiger needs to realize that he can no longer just walk into a tournament and win it after not playing for weeks. Personally I hope Tiger never wins another tournament, but I like him to be in contention when he loses.

bogeyI think Phil gets a free pass from golf fans because of : A. He is pretty much the anti-Tiger --- while Tiger was out cheating, Phil was supporting his wife and mother through battles with cancer and B. Phil has the battle himself with a major health issue that most understand has taken athletic careers away from others in a similar situation.
As for Tiger, I don't think he will ever be a dominate force again due to the already mentioned swing issues --- I agree he needs Harmon --- and I think psychologically he will continue to struggle with not being the fan favorite everywhere he goes....people always mention how athletes today have been given everything and told how they are the best thing ever. Well Tiger obviously had to work to be the player he was, but he has lived and fed off of positive energy and endorsement from the public everywhere he went. I can't imagine how different the atmosphere has to be for him everywhere he goes now! -

^^ While I agree with some of your points, the tournament showings don't support it. Tiger does not get heckled on the course and he still has easily the largest galleries. When he makes birdies they go nuts, exactly as it used to be. It will be interesting to see if he can get it back, and it certainly adds another storyline to a tour full of great storylines right now.

The tour, imo, is as exciting as it has ever been.
