I tell this to the local kids and they don't get it. I try to explain that if you KNOW the history of these cities that the concept of rooting for a Pittsburgh AND a Cleveland team is like trying to mate a cat with an elephant. It just isn't happening. -

It usually turns out to be something like Capone -

I like that..."still kinda gives a shit". You know it's bad when during 2010, I spent MUCH more time looking at stuff about the Pirates minor league affiliates than the big league team. Kinda like a "you kids still have potential...they're a lost cause" thing. -
ytownfootballSome of you are the recipients of collateral damage, we've all received it at some point though.

Indeed. I actually kinda/sorta felt bad for some of !!!YOU CLEVELAND FUCKS!!! last year because you were being lumped in with SQ, even though he wasn't even a Cleveland fan, but his LeBron love manifesting itself into things like the "Celtics collapse" thread kinda had the effect of making Cleveland NBA fans look delusional. -
ytownfootballLol...it happens, Celtic collapse was premature ejaculate worn by us all...a true SMH moment frozen in time

Haha trust me, as bad as the Reds were in the 2000 decade, I felt like they would never be good again. I too spent the good portion of my time focusing on the minor league affiliates because the big league team in cincinnati was fucking garbage.
I can say this though, the Pirates have a good bundle of young talent in place..they just need a few add in players (the scott rolen's, johnny be good gomes, etc. type players) to add some depth. As for pitching, I'm sure they've gathered enough pitching prospects over the years that they should be in the Reds' position in 2 or 3 years.
My good friend here at OU is a huge pittsburgh sports fan, and I respect him the most because even though he is an in your face kinda fan, he is the biggest Pirates fan of any of pittsburgh's teams, so I let him slide. -
like_thatDon't get your hopes up Heretic. If those young players turn into stars, they will just end up being traded for more prospects.

Sad thing is that my hopes for the Pirates, as far as realism goes, is to be a franchise comparable to the Indians. Have young guys come up together and give the team a good run for a handful of seasons...and then freefall into rebuilding mode for a few years and go back-and-forth between those two things.
That's the sad thing. With no salary cap and cheap ownership, the best fans can hope for is the occasional run of a couple good seasons with the team getting lucky enough during that run to hopefully win a title. -
GoPensI ordered Pirates tickets to 2 games and received them in the mail today. Ordering Pirate tickets in February better not make me a Steeler/Penguin bandwagon fan...lol.

Haha
"I'm a big Pirates fan, I just bought 2 tickets!!" -
GoPensOrdered 4 tickets to 2 games that will sell out early (Red Sox)...will go to anywhere from 7-10 buying walkup...not that I need to explain it to you asshole.
-
GoPensIf you really want to count, here's a list of each city's total championships since 1971.
Los Angeles (14): Lakers 11, Dodgers 2, Raiders 1.
New York (13)-*: Yankees 7, Giants 3, Mets 1, Rangers 1, Knicks 1.
Boston (12): Celtics 6, Patriots 3, Red Sox 2, Bruins 1.
Pittsburgh (11): Steelers 6, Penguins 3, Pirates 2.
Chicago (9): Bulls 6, Bears 1, White Sox 1, Blackhawks 1.
Detroit (8): Red Wings 4, Pistons 3, Tigers 1.
*-Note: The New York Islanders won four Stanley Cup championships in the 1980s, but are not generally recognized as a New York team, based on Long Island
Not bad for a small market city. -
HereticOf those 11, the most impressive are the three that happened this century. They speak to tradition, as opposed to the "glitz-n-glamour" deal that seems to be overrunning pro sports. The Penguins, who nearly were moved when horrible and near destitution as a franchise, rebounded to regain the Mario/Jagr years glow. The Steelers won two Super Bowls after going through the 80s and 90s with only one losing appearance. Three appearances with two wins in far less than a decade is simply awesome.

You're help feeding the issue. Red Sox are going to sell out regardless, should have bought tickets for another team not named Yankees/Red Sox. Then you'd be a "big fan". -

What part of "will go to anywhere from 7-10 buying walkup" don't you understand? Those 7-10 games will not all be vs. the Red Sox. I bought those tickets for 2 games now because they will be sold out. Heard today that the Saturday game is down to single tickets now already. -
Mooney44CardsWhile we're discussing professional football championships, the Las Vegas Locomotives have won 2 more professional football championships in the past 40 years than the Browns.
Locomotives > Browns -
