    Yeah, that's true.

I would like to see visible evidence during the season that the Reds are doing what they need to at the plate to give them a chance to win in the playoffs.

It will be fun prognosticating Dinglebaker's lineup. I'll give him a week to prove himself :)

    (Normal lineup)
    CF Stubbs
    SS Renteria/Janish
    1B Votto
    3B Rolen
    RF Bruce
    2B Phillips
    LF Gomes
    C Hernandez

(Dusty wants speed at the top order)
    LF Lewis
    2B Phillips
    1B Votto
    3B Rolen
    RF Bruce
    SS Renteria
    C Hanigan
    CF Stubbs

    (Bruce in a slump lineup)
    Stubbs CF
    Bruce RF
    Votto 1B
    Rolen 3B
    Phillips 2B
    Renteria SS
    Gomes LF
    Hernandez C

    (Votto in a slump lineup)
    Yeah Right

    I'd go with this lineup:

    Stubbs
    Stubbs
    Votto
    Bruce
    Rolen
    Votto
    Phillips
    Pitcher
    Votto

    Justin,
What season ticket package did you go with? I was thinking about dropping the coin for one of the packages with tax return money. But then I found out that I got fucked over again and actually have to pay again this year...so that went out the window.

    I'd lean towards:

    Stubbs
    Phillips
    Votto
    Rolen
    Bruce
    Gomes/Heisey/Lewis
    Catcher
    Janish/Renteria
    Pitcher

The 2 different lineups I could see are:

    Stubbs
    Phillips
    Votto
    Rolen
    Bruce
    Gomes
    Janish/Renteria
    Hernandez/Hanigan

    2nd Lineup

    Phillips
    Janish/Renteria
    Votto
    Rolen
    Bruce
    Stubbs
    Lewis
    Hernandez/Hanigan

We just did two seats in the bleachers on a 20 game package. I was going to do a 1 seat full season package in the bleachers but I talked myself out of it.

Man if I just lived within a halfway decent driving distance... Living close to Athens is just too far of a haul. I went to two games out at Great American Ballpark this season (+ 1 Reds game at the Jake). If I lived closer, I would definitely have some sort of season ticket package.

I don't care what my salary is, if I ever have a job in Cincinnati I am getting season tickets haha

I live less than 5 miles away. It is indeed awesome to just decide last minute to drive down and go to a game.
  • swamisez
I live in NC and made it to three games last year.
Strangely however, I got just about every game on my local fox sports affiliate. FSN Tennessee. I hope that continues again this year.

I think this is about right. A key may be what line-up Dusty starts on the many occasions when Rolen doesn't start.

This is so true. I went to around 15 games last year and am looking to do at least 20 this year. It takes me around 10 minutes to get downtown and parked and I come right past downtown after work during the week so going to games is pretty easy for me. It also helps when your company has season tickets and the boss just hands you tickets when he can't go. :)

    opening day lineup

    Lewis
    Phillips
    Votto
    Rolen
    Bruce
    Stubbs
    Hanigan
    Janish
    Arroyo

Who knows what will happen with C and SS, I'm assuming Hernandez and Renteria will play with Cueto and Volquez. Against lefties I think Stubbs moves to leadoff and Gomes bats 5th ahead of Bruce.

I'd be surprised if Gomes has another good year meaning addressing another offensive need around mid-season. Hope not though.

Gomes was very solid last year. I imagine his ABs will probably be down a decent amount (Lewis and Heisey will get some PT) but I expect Gomes to continue to be the main guy out there. I think a lot of people are thinking that it is still 2001 when LFs hit .280-.290 with 45+ HRs. Those days are over (cough cough steroids and greenies). Banned stuff aside, the amount of good outfielders in the game has really dropped off. Seems like most of the leagues talent resides in infield positions.
  • Ironman92
As long as there are many bad pitchers who miss over the middle of the plate......Gomes and many other Reds will be fine.
  • dave
OPS last year by guys who played a decent amount in LF and are on teams Reds are in competition with.

    Carlos Gonzalez .974
    Matt Holliday .922
    Pat Burrell .872
    Ryan Braun .866
    Alfonso Soriano .818
    Eric Hinske .793
    Raul Ibanez .793
    Jonny Gomes .758
    Carlos Lee .708

Gomes was not very solid. He was a good value for his contract, but they need more out of him or his replacement.

Maybe we should trade for Holliday, Ryan Braun, or Carlos Gonzalez? haha c'mon man. You posted the OPS for a few of the elite OFs in the game. Of course Gomes' numbers aren't going to be close to Matt Holliday's. You hit the nail on the head, for what they pay him, Gomes is pretty solid. Good guy to have in the clubhouse too.
  • dave
LF and 1B are the power positions in the NL, all I posted was the stats for left fielders for good NL teams. If the Reds want to pay Arroyo then they need better production from Gomes or whoever is out there. They can't expect the same production and health from Votto, Rolen, and Stubbs. Not bashing Gomes, I love the guy. Just don't think he's more than a platoon player who should rarely face RHP. Unfortunately he's pretty much a waste as a bench player since he can't play D and will probably strike out as a PH. He's a good DH though for interleague.
  • Ironman92
Reds had the high OPS LF guy...didn't work
  • ts1227
Arroyo has mono, but plans to pitch through it.
