Toughest athlete in all of sports?

  • Sonofanump
I'd say that baseball is the least tough of the major sports. It's probably just below tennis and above golf on the scale.
  • Sonofanump
It probably goes in this order:

    Boxing/MMA
    Wrestling (A)
    Hockey
    Aussie Football/Rugby
    American Football
    Tour de Cycle/Ironman/Ultramarathoners
    *Gymnastics
    Basketball
    *Soccer
    Tennis
    Baseball
    Golf
    Volleyball

Did I miss any sport played in high school, NCAA or would actually be on TV?

I agree with this list except the last three. It should be vball, baseball, then golf.

Edit: you forgot soccer. I would place that underneath bball.

As much as I would like to state hockey is the toughest, it's behind sports were all you do is kick someone's ass.
I am sure you of all people recognized the four names I nominated earlier in the thread.

^^^I recognized all four of the names as they were 4 of the toughest SOB's in hockey.

The reason I think hockey is the toughest is because those guys lay it all on the line every shift. Only in hockey do I see players get stitches in their faces from taking a puck in the face or getting high sticked, and they're back on the ice as soon as possible. In one of the videos I posted, Eric Belanger was pulling out his teeth just so he wouldn't miss a shift. In the SCF last year, Duncan Keith took a shot to the face and lost seven teeth and was back on the ice after they were pulled out. Nothing can replicate the pain of taking a shot off the skate either. Another example deals with Ryan Malone in the 2008 SCF. He took a shot to the face that broke his nose for the second time during the series and came back the next series all because, he wanted to win another game to get a crack at the championship (here's the link to the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGhUbYQKieg )

Hockey players are quite tough, I don't think the league has near the athletes of some other sports (not meant to be a dig) but their heart and determination is hard to rival.

Also, anyone who talks shit about another sport should probably get a vacation to the basement. Shit gets old, what are you fuckers 12 years old. "Soccer is for pussies" "Running isn't a sport" "Baseball isn't difficult" "Wrestling is gay". Shut. The. Fuck. Up.

Water Polo is a good one as well.
  • Wildcat24
I was going to mention Duncan Keith if no one else had. I can't imagine losing 7 teeth from a hockey puck to the mouth.

Well that's because it's the only sport with a puck.

So a sport where a success rate of 30% is good isn't mentally tough?

    lol.

I've also seen basketball players get stitches during a game and then come back. I've also seen them get elbowed in the nose and returning 2 minutes later with a tampon stuffed up both nostrils. Roethlisberger's nose had a pretty large curve in it and he kept playing. I don't think "Only in hockey do I see..." is accurate at all, unless Crosby is only referring to the puck thing and then getting back on the ice.

Not to mention guys like Chuck Knoblauch or Rick Ankiel. Both had huge mental blocks once doubt set in their heads.
