I can honestly only think of two active players that are in this discussion, I know I'm missing some.

I agree. I think the fact that the money is sooooo big now plays a big part. The teams/trainers/coaches/agents/and players themselves dont want to even risk playing hurt, let alone playing injured. The mentality has changed. That's why Farve was different, hell the guy just comes from a different time - it's hard to compare him to other QBs nowadays.

McNabb isn't very mentally tough, but that dude plays through a lot of injuries.

Steve McNair was the definition of badass back in the day.

There probably just aren't many tough athletes that we actually hear about. Many of the players in sports we hear about are the star athletes or popular position players like a QB, WR, etc. But I bet you if O-linemen played a really popular position, we would hear a lot more about how tough O-lineman are.

Yup. But he probably can't run a 4 minute mile so he isn't tough.

As for tough, baseball is about as tough as volleyball. Takes skill but sure doesnt take toughness.

I bet you couldn't run worth a shit if CC Sabathia drilled you in the thigh with a fastball.

No, you REALLY do admire yourself and think you're that cool.

    I don't think this is even that close. It's obviously #75 :D

In football the players RUN, get hit, get piled on, smashed, and are inflicted with pain every few seconds.

In basketball the players RUN, get knocked down, fouled hard, punched, and elbowed.

In baseball, the players RUN, get hit with baseballs, crash into each other, and dive head first to make catches.

In running, the "players" just RUN. Pussies.

No, but it does make the batter one when he continues on in the game. I know it's not dodging bunnies and squirrels out on the warpath, but it is kinda dangerous.

You've got to be kidding. Right? I mean I hope you are. If you aren't, then lord..

This is who CCRunner probably thinks is the toughest athlete in all of sports.

CC is so full of fail it's not even funny.... he also gives me a chance to bust out one of my favorite clips

Bryon leftwich also comes to mind. Led the game winning drive with a broken leg. Brett favre gets my vote though. Cross country is an activity not a sport

Haha I might sound a little like ccrunner here but this is laughable. Distance running isn't just about "running" you get elbowed/spiked all the time. Hell I still have scars on my leg from an indoor meet when I was taken down because some dumbass decide to try and cut in around the corner and his spikes got caught in my leg and dragged me down. I ran the rest of that 5k and still had a decent time(it was high 15s) After I finished the race I got taken to the trainer and they said I should probably get stitches I didn't. Distance runners don't take time out like all the other sports you mentioned they dont stand around waiting for plays to happen.

Here some info about Dean Karnazes who is an ultramarathon runner and a guy I mentioned:

He ran 50 marathons in 50 days in 50 states. The last marathon he ran was the New York Marathon that he finished in 3 hours and 30 minutes.
He ran 135 miles nonstop across Death Valley in 120 degree heat.
He ran a marathon in the South Pole with the weather being −40°F.
He ran 350 miles in 80 hours and 44 minutes without stopping.
He ran 148 miles in in 24 hours on a treadmill... I just find this insane because I think running on treadmills is the worst.
He has also swam the San Francisco Bay.

He has also done many other things but those are the main ones. So is this guy a pussy cause I'd love for anyone to try and do that stuff.

I'll nominate Dave Schultz, Dave Williams, Larry Robinson and Clark Gillies.

ccrunner609;651516 wrote:being a baseball player isnt "tough", baseball is a fucking easy sport. You stand around 90% of the time. You can play a whole game and never have to do anything. How tough is that?

Then why aren't you out there making your millions, and have you ever tried catching. Guaranty if a Major league player pitched a ball to you it would hit you right in your face.

Playing 162 games a year isn't mentally or physically challenging?

ccrunner609;651632 wrote:there is no way a 162 days of baseball is tougher then going to work for 330+ days of a construction job like pouring concrete or laying block.

Lol where did that even come from?

    You've played a 162 game baseball season?
