Thoughts? His resume seems pretty good when he is not a head coach. He's had success being position coach and defensive coordinator.

I reported this in another thread around 7 hours ago. Old news.

Well Art i found it in the 2011 off season/draft thread but it wasn't you that posted it. Is there a rule that we are not permitted to make threads if somebody makes a post on a previous thread that really merits a thread of it's own. DA I can't believe you actually took credit for someone else's post or maybe I couldn't find your post. It may be old news but what does that matter. I didn't post that this was breaking news.

Dont worry. Nobody pays attention to that guy
  • OQB
He'll be headed back here soon.....

LOOOOOOOOVE the hire. He's the guy I wanted when I figured Rob Ryan wasn't going to be retained.

Dick has proved his worth in this league, and his experience to go along with a rookie HC is BIG. He knows how to run a defense too.

Could turn out to be a solid hire. Jauron did well as a coordinator and some guys just aren't head coach material.

    this.

I am just happy they didn't hire Wanny....hate that guy.

I like the hire...IMO he's the right guy to lead the change to the 4-3.

Love this hire. Im a huge fan of coordinators that fail as Head Coaches. They always seem to do well.

I agree...Just look at Dick LeBeau. One of the greatest coordinators of all time....terrible head coach.

ehh not a fan of this move. He's a smart guy, but I would have tried to keep Ryan around for as long as I could. Dumb move to let him walk away. Their defense was actually pretty formidable last season.

To me, these offseason coaching changes just seemed like it was changing for the sake of changing. We can argue about whether or not Shurmur will be a better HC than Mangini, but to me there is no question that Ryan is a better DC than Jauron will ever be. Never a smart decision to downgrade your coaching staff
  • GoChiefs
Pretty sure I would have taken Jauron's defense this year over Ryan's defense.
  • Laley23
Not to mention, its tough to keep a guy who doesnt want to stay. Dallas came calling, and Ryan jumped.

    WTF?

I'm pretty sure stats wouldn't back up your claim.

I loved rob Ryan as much as anybody, but his defensive rankings have NEVER been that great. I'd sometimes get frustrated with his inability to adapt to a game. Our defense could not get pressure on anybody, yet he'd continue to try and blitz while our secondary is getting burnt.

Also, the Browns had trouble stopping teams when they needed too.

IMO, as much as I liked the guy, he's a bit overrated as a DC, just because of who his brother is.

Dick Jauron is a legit and established DC. He failed as a HC, but many great Coordinators do.

It's no secret that Ryan wanted out of Cleveland. Where would you rather coach Cleveland or Dallas? That's a no brainer my friends.
  • hoops23
It's actually not that Ryan wanted out of Cleveland.. He wanted to stay....With Mangini.

However, when Mangini was fired, Ryan knew he wasn't coming back either, so the Browns let him pursue other options.

Stop being a dumbass for one night Capone, or is it truly to hard for you to just talk football without all the BS nonsense?

I agree. Give it a rest already.

Anways, I really like this hire. As others have already said, a DC with experience will really help out a rookie HC.
