Trio Comparison: Heat vs. Celtics

  • 77Legend
This is a question that I brought up with my friend yesterday, and I want to get your opinion. Lebron James, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh teamed up together to be on the Miami Heat and they took a lot of Flack for this, which SOME of it is understandable. But when the Celtics Big three joined together a few years ago; Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen and Paul Pierce, they didn't take AS MUCH Flack. What is the difference between the two situations? KG stated that he did it to win a championship as so Ray Allen, which they did. Is the media being hypocritical with the the two situations???? Honest opinions please..........

None of the 3 in Boston were in the top 3 players in the game.

They needed the other 2 in order to win a ring.

KG & Ray were apart of two separate trades a few weeks apart and they didn't have a plan 2 years in advance to join up like the other 3

    Pretty much sums it up.

    Trades versus FA
None in top 10 players in game (KG MAYBE was top 10 at the time) versus 2 top 3 players and another All-Star
Asked to be traded anywhere versus Planning your free agency in Beijing.

No big show put on by Celtics
People realizing Allen isnt a guy to lead a team to a Title, and neither was Pierce. Only KG was, and at that point, he wasnt anymore. Both Wade and LeBron could lead a team alone still (Bosh cant).

Zwick4Prez....is that all you got? I respect the others, but that one was garbage.

    OSU nailed it.

The Heat were a planned entity for a couple year now.

    What more do u want?

    They...are...old.

If Lebron and Bosh were at the end of their careers and hadn't won a title yet, they wouldnt have got the flack they got from this. Most people would have understood.

I think it needs to be changed to the Big Three and Double Trouble/Dynamic Duo or something....Bosh is not the player everyone makes him out to be....he was surrounded by absolutely no talent in Toronto so he looked like an elite player.....He is showing his true colors now in south beach, LeBron and Dwayne are the reason why they are winning games, not Bosh.
  • wildcats20
I think most people knew Bosh wasn't a superstar player.
  • OQB
Then if we know he isn't then why do we keep calling them the big three.....just doesn't make sense to me.
  • wildcats20
Do you consider Ray Allen a superstar player?
  • OQB
Fair enough I knew you were going to say that, lol he is a great shooter.....
  • wildcats20
I'm not really doubting what you're saying about Bosh.

He was the third wheel on Bron and D Wade's date to begin with. And like you said it's really showing now.

18 and 8 is pretty damn good when you have 2 teammates that are averaging over 25 points a game. I don't think anyone expected Bosh to lead the team in scoring.

Yea, I just don't understand why Bosh is being criticized so heavily. No one expected him to be the Heat's #1 option or leading scorer.

Gasol gets praise as the best PF in the NBA and is averaging 19/11 and Bosh is a bust and is averaging 19/8.

Obviously people are going to hate on Miami, but at least do it without complete bias.

Gasol has never put himself out there saying he is a superstar player like Bosh did all summer.

Gasol does so much more than Bosh. Watch the two play and not boxscore scout and its obvious. Shooting %, FTs, Blocks, Ast., etc... Gasol is easily the superior player.

Who claimed Bosh to be the better player? People criticize Bosh, yet praise Gasol for very similar production. And I don't really get it. Plus, Bosh plays as the 3rd option with two ball dominating guards. Gasol is the 2nd option in the triangle offense. Yet, people were talking about Gasol as an MVP candidate earlier in the year while Bosh is apparently all of a sudden an average player.

    Gasol - 18.6 ppg, 10.5 rpg, 1.9 bpg, 52% fg, 3.9 assists
    Bosh - 18.6 ppg, 8.2 rpg, .7 bpg, 50% fg, 1.9 assists

What does that have anything to do with? I understand if people don't like Bosh, but you can't criticize his production this year.

    Who said Bosh was average?

Who said he's avg? Also Gasol PWNS him in every category, plays defense, and doesn't cry like a bitch when he has to play the 5.

I think a more appropriate comparison would be when Malone and Payton joined the Lakers. Both were title hungry and had their shots but didn't come through (I think Payton never won one at least, I can't remember for sure). The difference is by this point they were old, on the downslide of their careers and weren't going to lead their teams anywhere special by themselves.

bosh isn't like, all-nba, but the notion that he isn't a great player is pretty asinine.

that said, you guys will get the answer to this riddle in a few months.
