    http://m.bleacherreport.com/articles/557907-report-eric-mangini-out-mike-holmgren-in-as-cleveland-browns-coach

Who really didn't see this happening? If in fact it plays out this way. Mangina better not mail it in this week as a screw you to the team.

Why not?? He had crap to work with on offense this season??
  • ZombieKiller
    still won't help the browns
  • Red Saul
This is not the best idea, but not a surprise.
  • Nate
Not a good idea at all. Back to square 1.

Mangini has not shown that he is willing to grow and mature as a Coach. He does the same crap that he did at New York by playing not to lose instead of playing to win. I heard on the radio a few days ago a great summary of him. "He's a field goal Coach in a touchdown league."

Although the franchise probably takes a step back...again...by this move Mangini certainly isn't the guy to take them to the next level.

To answer the question I'm certainly not "surprised". It's actually be speculated since the day Holmgren was hired.

Mangini has the team playing hard, but their lack of creativity on offense has to fall on Mangini whether he's the OC or not.

Really not thrilled with Holmgren though.

Don't believe this report. Holmgren has said all along he will wait till the end of the season to make his decision. Don't see any need to change his mind with 1 game to go. But, it wouldn't surprise me if he did make this decision after the season.

Bengals fan here but I thought Mangini had them going the right way. He needs some offensive side of the ball help. I thought 5-7 wins was exceeding expectations imo.

I can't believe this yet based on bleacher report.

That hasn't been established as a reliable source.

I know it says in the first paragraph that it's "according to the Associated Press" but the associated press would have to put something out to confirm this.

For one thing, they should've kept quiet on the subject until after this game. That was supposedly the plan to wait until the season was finished.

Also, just my opinion, I think they should keep Mangini another year. 5-11 or 6-10 is not a good enough record clearly but they did have some impressive wins and if you just use your eyes and look at some of the talented players, the team is improved from last year. Maybe not improved as much as people started to think about midseason but still better when you look at the Joe Hadens and Colt McCoys and so forth.

Despite the positive direction, simple clock management was botched on several occasions costing games. There's no one to blame that crap on other than Mangini. You can't fix stupid.

The Bleacher Report is not a reliable source. There is no good reason for this to come out now. Like I said before, Holgren has said he will wait till after the season to make his decision. As far as making a change, I'm split on what I believe. They have made strides this year. The team has played hard in every game. And if they had a few more playmakers on both sides of the ball, they may have won a few more games. They were in almost every game. But the offensive philosophy has to change. It's obviuos Dabol's offense is not the answer. If Holmgren were to take over, they would go to the WCO. And that would suit McCoy much better. He would thrive in that system, IMO. And this change would be somewhat smooth, compaired to picking a coach from the outside. I've come to the conclusion that whatever Holmgren decides to do, I'm on board.

The Bleacher Report is a bad source, no question. Dabol is a lousy coordinator, most can agree, but it is worth mentioning that when McCoy was running what Dabol was dishing out they were at least more effective. When Jake was under center it seemed like Dabol's shortcomings were way more obvious. I still want him out, but at least when Colt was healthy we ran that shit more effectively.

I think they underachieved by maybe a few games this year in terms of wins and losses.

If you just said what would've been the ceiling for this team, probably about 8-8 I would say.

So even if they finish at 6-10 I think just from that record standpoint, they're a couple games off pace.

Not a huge deal, though, just means a better draft pick.

I think next year will be a year that the Browns turn the corner and are in the wild card hunt, at least. Possibly 9-7 or better.

I think they will be that way regardless, whether Mangini is the head coach or somebody else like Holmgren. Holmgren would be sort of taking over at the right time when they're about to turn the corner and then he'll look like he did it. :D

i was backing mangini till the last few games. Im tired of watching them play down or up to the competition. Clock management also became a huge factor. Holmgren gave him a chance, he was taking full advantage of it......then completely blew it.
  • royal_k
Holmgren had a great draft last year and made the trade of the season, bringing Hillis here. So regardless if he decides to coach or not, he had as big of a hand in them turning the corner as anyone did.

This is what I think too. Just as long as we don't get John Fox but I will take Gruden or Holmgren himself.
  • Murdski99
this is fucking stupid, he isn't officially out and the plan is to meet monday to discuss it. Get out of here with that thread title
  • Skyhook79
Not buying it, I don't think Holmgren wants to Coach. I hope that Holmgren has Jon Gruden on speed dial bothers him every hour until he agrees to Coach the Browns.
  • OQB
    Dumb move...dumb move...dumb move!

And we are back in the rebuilding phase....oh wait we haven't gotten out of that phase since 1999!!!!

Keep Mangini, hire a new offensive coordinator, draft some quality guys, get new wr coach, and we are on our way to a winning record.

It's a fucking article from bleacher report. ANYONE can blog on the bleacher report. I have been emailed several times to write up on my favorite teams. SMH at anyone taking this seriously. Why not wait until their official meeting on Monday?
  • hoops23
LOL @ people taking the BR seriously.

    Come on now..
  • Red Saul
John Fox is not coming back to Carolina, would he be a viable replacement for Mangini?
  • vball10set
^^^absolutely not..if Mangini is indeed out, it'll be Holmgren that'll replace him
