NFL Coaching Changes

  • OQB
2010 is the year of Change......

Between the coaches that have been fired already in the middle of the season:
    Cowboys-Phillips
    Vikings-Childress
    49ERS-Singletary
    Broncos-McDaniels

More Coaches are on the hot seat as well entering the final week of the regular season:
    Browns-Mangini
    Titans-Fisher
    Panthers-Fox
    Texans-Kubiak
    Dolphins-Sparano
    Jaguars-Del Rio
    Bengals-Lewis
    Vikings-Frazier (intern)
    Cowboys-Garrett (intern)

That is a total of 11 teams out of 32 NFL teams looking for new coaches to lead their teams.....

Who stays, who's fired, which fired coach gets hired somewhere else.....
  • OQB
For the Browns, God I hope we don't have to start over with a new coach....IMO Mangini is NOT the problem!! We have a junior high offensive coordinator in Daboll, and are really about 3-4players away from having a winning record. Even though we have the same record as last year, we HAVE gotten better and are very competitive. We just don't have "IT" right now....with the same coach in place for a third season, an offensive guru like McDaniels (which I think would be an awesome improvement/hire) and a good offseason (free agency/draft) this team could make a push next season.

A new coaching staff will just set us back even further.....and that is never good.

This guy would be unemployed for about 24 hours.

Jerry Jones already said he would call Fisher as soon as he was let go.
  • Nate
I think every team would call Jeff Fisher if he was let go.

Miami needs to fire Ireland, Henning (God let this happen) and Sparano, go after Cowher to be the HC. if not PROMOTE MIKE NOLAN. Miami's main problem is OL, and that's saying something considering the walking train wreck that is chad henne.

For those that are hoping to build through FA i'd bite my tongue, there is almost NO good players to be had this offseason.

As for the draft, it could be one of the deepest in awhile, especially on the OL. I'd like to see miami go after Sherrod from MSU or Carimi from Wisconsin in the 1st round. then since they don't have a 2nd, 4th, or 6th (i'm pretty sure, due to trades) go after Moffit or Potter (OG's) in the later rounds.

Jeff Fisher is the best head coach in the NFL. I have said it before on here and stand by it. Is he really on the hot seat or is that just speculation based on this seasons poor performance?

from what i gather it's like 25% performance based for this past season and 75% of it is based on the fact that the Owner loves Vince Young and Young and Fisher have been at odds since day 1.
  • THE4RINGZ
Because Fisher knows what kind of player VY is and how he hurts the team. You can find a new qb quicker than you can find a new coach.

The Del Rio situation is another interesting one. I think he is a good coach who has been the victim of circumstances at times too. Earlier this season he may have been fighting for his job but they made a nice run mid to late season.

hey 4ringz....if Hines retires, or when he retires she'll need to remove that jersey!

I think obviously Marvin Lewis is gone....too bad though, I think he is a good coach with bad management/owner.

Probably would have been fired by now...but you wouldn't want to lame-duck someone with that crew...and better to see who is available after the dust settles...a la Fisher.

I could see Cowher hiring Marvin as assistant head coach/defensive coordinator wherever he goes.

hopefully cowher comes to miami and leaves nolan as the DC. but if we can lure bill to the dolphins, i'll take an upturned mop with a bucket for a head as the DC.

No wayyyy. Billy B is definitely better.

if every coach was a free agent I think definitely Belichick would be the top choice for the most teams

No. 2 would be questionable but I think probably Cowher

    Fisher not too far behind
  • The Equalizer
Fox is definitely gone, he's not even on the hot seat. The owner said no to a new contract.

I think the Mangini situation could go either way right now...yes, the Browns have played much better than they have last year, but at the end of the day, they are still 5-11 (after Sunday) and have another top 10 draft slot. But there have been players saying that they want Mangini to return and like what he brings to the team...but also have to think about Holmgren and if he has someone better off to coach the team or to just give Mangini better offensive coaches.

they had delhomme and a rookie qb for most of the year, mangini deserves a break. especially since they stumbled onto something with mccoy (i think). if they get blackmon or aj green or deandre brown (if you don't want to spend a top 5 pick on a guy but want top 5 talent) in the draft they'll be good to go. that OL is as good as it gets, the fact that they have 2 of the top DL's to play twice every year makes it look worse than it is. the browns need some DL work, a few playmakers on offense (namely a deep threat WR) and they are in the hunt. in any other division the browns are a 8-8 team. 1 win that stands out is the beatdown they put on NE. that alone should save his job.

I'm also against firing Mangini. This team has improved a lot over the past couple seasons. I can't stand how coaches only get a couple years and then if they don't produce they're gone. It takes time to build a solid program. The saying "Rome wasn't built in a day" would work well here. A new OC and a solid draft and this team would have a winning season, IMO.

I wonder if Shanahan is on the hot seat in Washington. They seem like a complete mess.

if we've learned anything in the pasty 4 years it's this:

the washington redskins are always a complete mess. and will be until new ownership is in place.

The Browns also dropped winable games at Buffalo and Cincy...that probably didn't help his chances a whole lot. If they bring him back, I'll be fine with it, as long as they bring in a new OC to run the offense and who knows what they're doing. They do need to draft/sign some DL and LB help to make the D better.
  • OQB
The last few post on the Browns situation is right on! I couldn't agree with you guys more. Mangini is definately not the problem, and Listening to Mike and Mike in the Morning, Herm Edwards said Teams need stability and consistency to win games not only on the field but this goes for head coaches, GM's etc....The Browns have been on a carousel of Coaches/Gm's. I don't care what organization or what players you have you will not win many games, Period!

What the Browns need is better ASSISTANT coaches to develop these draft picks..... ALthough Robiskie is starting to play better, it's pretty obvious the WR coach isn't doing too much to teach these young guys to play WR in the NFL.

    2011 NEEDS:
    Offensive Coordinator--McDaniels
#1 WR---AJ Green, Blackmon someone in the draft.
RT- That is the weakest part of our line.
DL- Need another pass rusher that can actually pass rush
LB- We are aging at this spot and need some new young guys with fresh legs and a nose for the ball
CB- Need to get another corner to play on the other side of Haden

Would not be the least bit suprised to see Mangini fired and Jon Fox in Cleveland

Josh McDaniels will not be the OC in Cleveland,he will want too much money
