Week 13: Pittsburgh Steelers (8-3) at Baltimore Ravens (8-3)

Say what you want about the guy off the field.....but last night's performance by Ben was as gutsy as I've seen. Just a great job, especially when it mattered. Ben is one tough SOB.

So when one of your LBs Farrior I think it was, was quoted saying something along the lines of "We got lucky they were passing in that situation" you STILL get mad when Harbough says they blew the game?

I don't care that much about what Harbaugh says. I'm just happy we got the "W." Coaches say things like that sometimes after games. It comes across as sour grapes but whatever.

    So what did Harbaugh do?

Well, I agree with what Dilfer said now that I think about it.

His point was that if Baltimore just runs the ball and punts, the Steelers are probably going to have to drive like 80-90 yards for a touchdown in two minutes. Not impossible. They actually did that a couple years ago in the game Santonio Holmes caught the controversial touchdown. But it still would've been really tough for the Steelers to drive that far and score a TD after not scoring the entire game.

However, most good teams don't follow that conservative strategy these days. Teams like New England, Indianapolis and in this case Baltimore try to seal the game with the QB throwing a short pass to pick up the first down so they can run out the clock and not be in that situation where the other team has some time with the ball.

The Steelers were conservative in the first meeting and they punted back to Baltimore and Flacco drove the Ravens down for a touchdown in the last minute.

Sounded like Harbaugh and Flacco were frustrated at the loss and wanted to lessen the blow by saying they blew the game. But the Steelers just made the winning plays this time.

Harbaugh is a classless jackass.......period! He never gives the Steelers credit when they lose, never, it's always a fucking excuse with him. BTW, Harbaugh should man up and say he made a mistake by throwing it in that situation instead of saying they blew the game.......isn't that what actually happened?

Steelers go from a 6th seed to the 2nd seed with this win. I'm hearing there could be some good news on Aaron Smith tomorrow.

Ryan Clark was on espn today and said Flozell Adams was dancing in the locker room after the game so hopefully his injury isn't to bad.

Harbaugh hates to lose to the Steelers dont he? He acted like a disgruntled little prick last night.

I could only imagine the Steelers locker room after that game.

You could see in Tomlin's face as he went to the press conference that he just came from a spirited locker room where guys were probably yelling and going crazy.

Galvanizing win. Some of the veterans have already been part of that but now you get the young guys and some of the new guys tasting what it's about to have a game like that where the team really has to pull together.

Get on the Browns thread and worry about fucking up another draft.

Where was Ray Lewis at for this game? Was he on the inactive list?

Yeah, that may have been funny if he didn't have the most tackles in the game.

I agree about the young guys. What another solid draft by Colbert. If they can get Dryer to come around it will be a homerun.

I just didnt notice him during the game. I missed his usual piling on at the end of each play.

That would be clever if he didn't lead the game in tackles. Ed Reed is the one you should be asking if he played. I forgot that the Steelers never pile up at the end of plays. It's cool though.

Now that I think about it you're right. I never heard Reeds name mentioned one time. I guess we can put the who's the best safety in the NFL argument to bed now.

Anyone know the tiebreakers if Pittsburgh and Baltimore end up with the same record. I know the first one is head to head but they've beat each other.
  • Non
The first tiebreaker is head-to-head and they split the games so that's out.

The second tiebreaker is division record and right now the Ravens have two losses because they lost to the Bengals so the Steelers have the edge there.

That means if the Steelers beat the Bengals, Panthers and Browns -- even if they lose to the Jets -- they will finish 12-4 and 5-1 in the division.

If the Ravens win out they will be 12-4 but 4-2 in the division. So the Steelers will win it.

Steelers have to win the two division games and then one other (whether it's the Jets or Panthers) to maintain that tiebreaker edge.

If the Steelers lose one of those division games and win their other games to finish 12-4 and Baltimore finishes 12-4, they will go through several different tiebreakers. head-to-head, division, common opponents, conference record and all of those will be tied.

It will then come down to strength of victory. That is a calculation of the combined winning percentage of all the teams you beat so it changes based on how a lot of those teams do. For example, the Steelers would want teams like the Raiders and Titans to win some games down the stretch. Right now the Steelers have a better strength of victory than the Ravens.

    Got it.
