Should the NFL keep the Thanksgiving tradition?

  • like_that
Tradition of having the Cowboys and Lions play? I am all for tradition, but I think it is played out, and they should just pick 3 games that they believe will be good games. It is getting annoying to watch a 3 win max Lions team play every Thanksgiving. If the Browns hosted the Thanksgiving tradition, I would want them to end it with their current play as well.

I def think they should change the tradition. I want to see good teams play on thanksgiving

i don't mind the cowboys - large national fanbase that is either loved or hated by the masses. game will always have intrigue. it's the damn lions getting their doors blown off every year is what sucks.

i know they'll never do it, but i'd love a flex game for thanksgiving

Yeah, I couldn't care less about tradition here. Picking matchups is always a crapshoot, though. The Jets-Bengals looked like it would have been good coming into this year but obviously it's pretty shitty now.

i'd love for the nfl to move the lions game to nfl network and into the evening slot (like the jets/cincy game this year). get an afternoon replacement game for cbs, the cowboys on fox and then get nbc involved with a night cap

    perfect turkey day of football

They should do flex scheduling with Thanksgiving games. Announce em like 2 weeks before thanksgiving and move the good matchups from sunday to thursday

I doubt the players would enjoy that.
  • Hb31187
Doubt the NFL would care if the players like it as long as the millions of fans like it lol

I think the players' union might have a say in that matter.

I might be wrong, but I don't think the flex scheduling is for Thursday games. Flex scheduling either gives the team a few more hours before they play (sunday night game) or an extra day to play and prepare (monday night). I don't think the players mind that as much, because either way they are getting extra time. Thursday games would piss them off, because all of a sudden they get news they are going to be playing on 3 days rest.

Edit: Flex scheduling only applies to Sunday games. http://www.nfl.com/schedules/tv/flexible

The three worst games of the week all on Thanksgiving. NFL fail.
  • justincredible
Yeah, flex would definitely not work for Thursday games.

NFL Network should give a free preview to everyone on Thanksgiving.

That way the primetime game is truly a primetime, national event.

the only way i could see flex scheduling on thanksgiving is you have a select number of games that would be placed in potential flex pool. each team in the thanksgiving pool would have a bye week the week before thanksgiving (they should do this anyways) and would be notified no later than the first of november whether or not they would be playing on thanksgiving

    I say leave it.

The fact the the Lions and Cowboys are playing doesn't take away from my enjoyment of watching part of the NFL on Thanksgiving. It's a game to me and I don't really care who is playing. I'm fine with the tradition being preserved.

As a cowboys fan, i love it. But i can understand why people would want to see it changed. I hope they at least keep it around, i wouldnt be opposed to seeing more teams play on Thanksgiving.

I like non's idea....even though I have the NFL Network.

I don't mind the Lions and other crappy teams being on Thanksgiving. I'll watch the Lions once each season....and if the game sucks....at least there is tremendous food and family.

Sorry....I'm on the other side of this one.

I've always been for the Lions as tradition but I think they've lost like six games in a row and by large margins.

It used to be that they would get up for Thanksgiving and put up a fight. And then during the Barry Sanders era you at least had that element.

Lately they've been really terrible. I'd give them a little more time to draft some better players because it seems like they are getting a little better, unfortunately Stafford keeps getting hurt. Let's say they lose like 45-10 the next 2-3 years then it might be time for a change.

    I've got it!

Instead of yanking the lowly Lions.....keep them on and have them play versus a top college team.

    Detroit Lions vs Boise St

I don't really care what the games are, as long as they keep two or three on TV.

As bad as the Lions are...it would be an upgrade from Boise's conference schedule.

    I feel the same way.

Also, I don't think Jerry will let Roger take his team off Turkey Day.

At least for this year......which would you rather watch?

Choice A : Lions versus any NFL team

Choice B : Lions vs Boise St

Get rid of the Lions on turkey day. Don't care about the boys.
