Buying my tickets to Darlington this week, can't wait. I love the Saturday night races, and lucky me Charlotte and Darlington are both close and have Saturday night races!. And Charlotte has a Sunday night race on memorial day weekend too!

Back to the race, I like Busch and Kenseth so Busch taking Kenseth out was brutal, and Kurt Bush really F'd up Blaney's day. That sucks I wanted him to get a top 10.

Dale Jr. extends his winless streak to 101 races.

Fire destroys racing innovator Smokey Yunick's garage
    http://www.news-journalonline.com/news/local/east-volusia/2011/04/26/fire-destroys-racing-innovator-smokey-yunicks-garage.html

    "Best Damn Garage in Town."

DAYTONA BEACH -- The last remaining portion of legendary race car builder Smokey Yunick's former garage complex was destroyed Monday night as smoke and flames poured from the building onto North Beach Street.
Yunick made several significant gains for the automotive industry. Some of his inventions included variable-ratio power steering and the extended tip spark plug, a design utilized in most automobiles today.
When Daytona International Speedway opened in 1959, Yunick's machines made an immediate impact. He built the cars that carried Marvin Panch and Fireball Roberts to Daytona 500 victories in 1961 and '63, respectively.

Smokey was an automotive genius. My dad was going to work for him when he moved here but Smokey honestly told him he would be closing his garage in the next few years, so my dad took another job.

    from the news journal link...
Yunick was proud of his accomplishments in various fields of automotive endeavors, but insisted he didn't want his old garage to turn into a shrine. Not long after his death, nearly everything was sold off in the ultimate "garage sale" for gear heads.

And, the property itself was sold on the premise that nothing would be done in the future to memorialize the famous former owner of that property.

Monday night, Yunick's daughter, Trish Yunick, seemed pleased that she'll never have to mount a legal fight to maintain that agreement.

"I said my goodbyes a long time ago," she said. "You know, he always said, 'I don't want no damn shrine.' I'm delighted it's not useable now. We didn't want to defend what he strongly wanted."
    ........................

I can just picture Smokey last night looking down and thinking 'Why don't the fire dept. just get some hot dogs and marshmallows?' lol. The old bldg is no great loss, but it reminded me how great he was. An original American genius.

Daytona International Speedway starts granting public access to secretive archives

    http://www.news-journalonline.com/news/local/east-volusia/2011/04/27/racings-vault-opens.html

Often referred to as the "bunker" because of its secret location, the ISC Archive is much like the racing company's own "Area 51."

Only a handful of employees have regular access to the facility and a visit requires special permission from the ISC hierarchy.

Bud Moore's HoF bio is must see tv. The stories are legend. He has 5 purple hearts from WWII.
The '84 Busch Clash Ricky Rudd crash, man I remember that.
Ricky said "I'm getting out of this hospital." His wife said "You have tubes and wires all in you." Ricky said he didn't care. She said 'Go look in the mirror.' He did and he said he didn't recognize the face looking back. He was much better a couple days later and finished top 10 in the 500. They even won at Richmond the next week.

he taped his eyes open so he could see to race.

Not when you mix top 5 and wins in with it.
