Commander of AwesomeCan someone explain to me the point of a restrictor plate? I read that it because the cars can't stay on the ground past 194 MPH, is that true?
-
SpeedofsandI can explain restrictor plates perfectly. But you're an asshat so I won't.

Someone has their panties in a knot.... -
AutomatikI haven't heard the term "asshat" in forever lol
Restrictor plates limit air intake which reduces power, acceleration, top speed, etc. -

But he asked what the point was. -
AutomatikMy mistake. I thought was pretty obvious.
Reduce speeds for driver and fan safety. See Talladega. -

It is obvious for someone that isn't asking. -

It doesn't stop them from getting airborne, no. But it's supposed to help. They started using them after this crash...

You can see when the 22 car gets sideways, the air just lifts him up and flips him over. The thought was that slowing them down would prevent this. Of course, they still flip over, so it didn't prevent it altogether. But it did level out the playing field and brought the cars into more of a 'pack' which made for more racing. So I think that's why they have kept them over the years. Just my opinion. Because from the safety aspect, it does nothing to keep them from flipping. There isn't going to be any difference between a wreck at 215 mph or a wreck at 190 mph. -

GoChiefsOne of the worst Bristol moments...right after Kulwicki died...pulling his hauler out with the black wreath on the grille. Still remember watching that before the Busch series race.

GoChiefsWorst Bristol crash...actually...worst crash I've seen. It was just nasty. Don't know how he walked away from that one.
