Does Marvin Lewis Get A Free Pass?

  -Wade Philips fired after not living up to expectations
  
  -Mike Singletary on the hot seat with the 49ers after they were favorite to win their division
  
  -Brad childress seat is boiling
  
  -Lovie Smith has the bears at 7-3 record for crying out loud and people want him gone.
  
  The Bengals are 2-8 and loaded with talent. There are people who had them as their Super Bowl pick. But I hardly hear talks about Marvin Lewis being replaced. What's up with that?

  It's because Cincinnati has developed something called "learned helplessness." And the media doesn't really care about Cinci being terrible.
  
  It's a shame as the guy should be gone and the city deserves better.

  Good point Fly. Marvin Lewis has been there 8 years I believe and only 2 playoff appearances? I know the organization was horrible before he got there, but insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

  The media doesnt care about Cincy because they suck every year. On top of that Marvin is black so he gets some extra leeway from the press.

  I also question why Lewis is still employed. If I was a cincy fan I would want him gone. 2 above .500 seasons doesn't cut it.

  I was going to post a similar complaint. How in the hell does he still have a job tomorrow morning? You have one of the few teams with a worse record at home (not on TV because the fans just don't care, and even this time Ochocinco doesn't care enough to bail us out), you jump out to a 31-14 lead at halftime, then you come out for the second half and they basically do whatever they want - score 5 unanswered touchdowns. It's like they went into the locker room and someone said 'No, we're playing too well right now, we need to stop."
  It's so damn frustrating - every week, same shit. And they lose in a more shameful fashion every week. When they play the NYJ on Thursday they'll probably lose by 70 and the stadium will blow up.
  I wish they would make SOME type of adjustment - try SOMETHING new. You've seen different teams experiment with different starters/coaches and have some luck (ala Eagles with Kolb/Vick and Cowboys firing Phillips) Why the hell should anyone in that organization be safe from change? Palmer and Lewis should have been gone weeks ago. I would say Mike Zimmer was a bright spot but the defense just gave up 50 fucking points to the Bills!!
  There isn't a doubt in my mind that the Bengals are THE worst team in the league. I know the Panthers have a worse record, but no team has looked worse on a week by week basis. They find ways to blow games. Idk what the hell happened today. This was a game they should have been able to cruise through after jumping out to a big lead, but instead they manage to blow it. The players don't care, Marvin Lewis just stands there on the sideline like an idiot. Fire someone, bench someone, start someone else - do SOMETHING. The season has been a wash for weeks - what do we have to lose? The core talent that was keeping this team with a shred of hope for the past several seasons is no longer cutting it.
  
  The media thing is especially frustrating because there's no heat calling for Marvin's job. The Cowboys start the season out shitty and suddenly Wade Phillips might as well start packing his bags - no one would shut up about how quickly he'd be out of town. But since it's the Bengals no one cares, and who can blame them. The bulk of ESPN's coverage tomorrow will be about the Patriots-Colts game and the game on right now between the Eagles - Giants, with some other coverage being devoted to Favre, Cowboys, Jets, Steelers. No one wants to talk about the Bengals, Browns, Jaguars, Bills, Panthers, Lions, Seahawks, etc.

  You have this team, with this build-up, and very untimely losses to teams like the Bills....that is the only logical conclusion.
  
  the reason that any firing has seemed to be slow to develop.............
  because these players have seriously under-performed, the front-office seriously misjudged the need for another big-mouthed WR, and the fact the Carson Palmer is probably not the second-coming of Peyton Manning, or even Ken Anderson.....or even Turk Schonert.........
  and you have Mike Brown ownership which is far more inadequate than any player or coaching staff...........

  I didn't think cincy was going to repeat their performance last year (sorry, but lol at the SB predictions), but I surely didn't see them with 8 losses before week 12. I figured they would have an 8-8, or 7-9 season. Everything went right for the Bengals last year, this year is an example of when everything doesn't go right.

  In all seriousness though, last year when they were leading the division, Kroger's and Ochocinco had to bail them out numerous times to avoid a black out. If I remember correctly they had trouble selling out their playoff game as well, thats inexcusable.

  Can you explain this a little more? How does the city prove they are good fans? Two winning seasons in the past two decades, and they still have fans. What more would you want?
  It looks bad having your home games blacked out, if you want my excuse it's because I'm a college kid 90 miles outside of Cincinnati, so I lack funds. But even if I was rich, why chip in the money for tickets, parking, concessions, etc. I still support the team - I have my Bengals shirt on today, despite the questioning why. Hell if I only wore this short when they won, I would never be able to wear it.
  But quite frankly, I DONT support the shitty way they've been playing, and no fan does. Hopefully the blackouts start to pile up as the season draws to a close. I think they might, because they're advertising the Browns, Chargers, and Saints game on TV quite a bit. Maybe Mike Brown will get the message that we're not supporting this garbage anymore - although I doubt he will, seems like a dumb guy.

They're both black. CONCLUSION: Skin color in all likelihood is not being used as a considering factor in why there hasn't been much "hot seat" talk about Marvin.

  The Browns organization is in much better shape than the Bengals. At least Randy Lerner is willing to hire a guy like Mike Holmgren to run the team. Mike Brown thinks he and he family can do it when the on-field results prove otherwise.

  The simple answer is the fans are not good fans, so they don't deserve winning seasons.
  
  Sorry, I can understand not selling out your arena or stadium in baseball and basketball because there are 81 and 41 home games per season. Football, however... come on man. Football is the most popular sport in this country, and there are only 8 games in a season. It's pretty pathetic if you have one of your only 8 home games blacked out. On top of that you have to factor in ocho and kroger bailed cincy from being blacked out last year by purchasing tickets, and this was during a playoff season! Being a good fan is sticking with your team during the bad times, not just showing up for the good times. That is what cincy fans do when it comes to football. I don't want to hear any of this bad economy bs either, because there are cities out there in worse shape (Cleveland), and they still sell out their stadium.
