Pittsburgh Penguins 2010-2011 season thread

GoPensThe Pens trade Alex Goligoski to Dallas for forward James Neal (21G, 18A) and defenseman Matt Niskanen (0G 6A).
Are going to make a push to get Kovalev as well. -
End of LineI love this trade!!!
-
GoPensAccording to 93.7 there will have to be some tinkering with the salary cap next year because of this deal. Neal has 1 more year on his contract. This furthers the argument that Talbot will be gone.
This also might be a clue that Sid will be back sooner rather than later. I don't think they make this deal unless they know they'll have Sid for a playoff run. -
rock_knutneLOL.......you guys with Talbot being gone next year. Not happening.
I like the trade too due to the sole fact that finally they'll have a few more NHL caliber players in the line up, suiting up 6 to 7 AHL guys a night isn't going to get you far.
Now, get moving on Kovalev, he shouldn't cost the Pens anymore than a late round pick. -

One other thing that is very nice about this move is both Neal and Niskanen are young, 23 and 24 years old, and both were high draft picks. -
rock_knutneStaal will play tonight and Martin is a game time decision.
Pens need to come out and get after Washington tonight, use the home crowd and jump all over them. -
ptown_trojans_1Nice stop by Fleury on the Ovey breakaway.
-
ptown_trojans_1Neuvirth with the deny, great glove save against Staal.
-
rock_knutnePens lose 1-0 and it's a tough loss to take, they totally outplayed Washington!
We need some offense back and soon! I can't stand watching Pittsburgh play this type of hockey anymore, it's frustrating to watch them work so hard and not score. Fleury gave another great performance that was wasted, which has been happening much too often. -

I thought it was a pretty even game, slightly for the Pens overall. It just took that one PP and goal by Oviey.
But, that was a great 1-0 game. I love when these two teams play each other. I hope we get to see it in the playoffs. -
rock_knutne^^^^I didn't think so and the stats show it, Pens dominated in just about every category except the all important score board:
http://espn.go.com/nhl/boxscore?gameId=310221016
You put up 39 shots and out shoot the opponent by 15 of them......you'd think you can score at least one goal. Just one of those nights. I'm not worried, they continue with that kind of effort and with the help that's coming and getting some guys back from injury, this team should be OK, especially with how Fleury has been playing. -
End of LinePens dominated the Caps.
Rock for the last friggin time, Talbot and Dupuis will be gone. -
rock_knutne^^^^Dupuis, maybe but Talbot's not going anywhere. We will see what happens in the off season and let's just leave it at that.

Best division in hockey is the Pacific, best PP in the league are all in the West, best team is in the West, etc.
Pens have the easier road than say, the Wings or the Canucks.
Agreed west is is best. Only 6 teams in the east have winning records against west teams, unlike the west who have 12 teams with winning records against the east. -
killer_ewokTough loss for the Pens. That sucks to lose a game like that.

Me too as a Jacket fan. Neal is pain in the ass and he can score too. Nisskanen ain't half bad either. Pitt should be happy. -
Commander of AwesomeThe freefall seems to be in full effect for the Pens. Not surprised by their descension after losing so many of their keys players. To be dominated in back to back nights was a bit alarming though, and the lackluster effort I think should fall on the players. You have to play with more pride then what they've shown the last few weeks. Also really seems that the Caps have their number, against them their last 3 games they were outscored 7-1. Thats a beat down.
-
End of Line^^^Caps were outplayed quite a bit last night. Neuvirth stood on his head all night.
-
Automatiklol....I doubt he watched.
I'm not panicking yet. February has been a rough month, some tough losses that could have went either way. It looks like Pitts is in a bit of a scoring slump.....and this is the wrong part of the season to be going through that. Hopefully with the trade coming through and getting Crosby back, things will take a better turn. -

+1. The pens must be nervous with a possible 1st round matchup with the caps looming in the near future. -
Raw Dawgin' itESPN has they ranked 13th in the power rankings, they're obviously thinking the pens will start to slide more and more without their two top players.
-
killer_ewokObviously a rough stretch but I think the demise of the Pittsburgh Penguins is being greatly exaggerated.
But that was expected. #predictability -
AutomatikYeah I could see if it was mid-April and a playoff spot was in doubt. They are comfortably in 4th in the East and I'm fine with it. Barring any MAJOR collapse I think they will be ok.
Also, I have no issues with playing the Caps first round....I'd welcome it. Playoff hockey is completely different than regular season. -

agreed. trade dealine and the playoffs are usually the most exciting part to me. The final stretch after the dealine into the the playoffs is the best time of the year -
End of LineBylsma has said he will use Neal-Staal-Kennedy tomorrow night.
