I dont think anybody would argue with that -
killer_ewokClose call. The refs did what they were allowed to in that situation.
Close calls have to go one way or the other. We've been on the other end but the apology from the league didn't change the fact that the Jags played the Pats in the next round of the playoffs a few years back. A lot of other fans pretty much said,"Oh well, STFU, you lost, haha." Now we get a close call and I'm not gonna apologize for it. I'm guessing you haven't and wouldn't either.
Ball game. 5-1. Sole possession of 1st place in the AFC North. -
KnightRyderclose call my ass. that was cheating at its best. i dont want to hear that nonsense of being on the other end of a bad call. NO TEAM HAS BENEFITED FROM BAD CALLS AS MANY TIMES AS THE STEELERS HAVE.
-
killer_ewokTypical whining that goes on here. Can't say that I'm surprised.
5-1. 1st place in AFC North. -
wes_mantoothI am not down with the conspiracy theories like some on here. I am just more of the belief that these calls even out throughout a season. I just think the officiating seems to get worse every year. Is the game getting too fast for these guys or something?

prove it -
KR1245just saw another closeup on Sportscenter. I dont know how the ref could possibly say that it wasnt clear who recovered that football. There were 3-4 dolphins on that thing. The Dolphins still had their chances though......sometimes you need a little luck on your side

Just because you lay your arm on a loose ball....that doesn't mean that you have established possession. -

I understand that. They didnt lay an arm on the ball though...3 Dolphins jumped right on top of the damn thing. I dont see how you can look at that footage and think Miami didnt have the ball. Like I said, Miami had their chances.....I just think the "we couldnt tell who had possession" argument is pretty weak -
killer_ewokAt what point on any of the replays did you say to yourself,"#__ for Miami recovered the ball"? So 3 'Phins jumped on it. Did we see any of them establish possession? Maybe one of them did but the officials and the rest of us couldn't tell. A couple Steelers joined the scrum almost immediately so maybe one of them established possession at one point and we didn't see it. Who knows. None of the replays revealed a definitive answer as to who recovered the ball.

What I saw was two Dolphins each get one hand over the ball but they didn't gain full possession then Legursky got a hand in and then others, like Ben.
The first Dolphins that got there didn't secure it, from what I saw. Then it was impossible to tell after five, six, seven players dove on top. -

I agree with you to an extent. Missed calls happen. I was referring to after the line judge missed it. There was no indisputable evidence that Miami recovered the ball. You know how it is when you jump on a loose football. The review decision was the correct, if you don't think so well then to be blunt....you're wrong. -

That's the honest truth. I stopped getting fired up at the "U GETZ BAD CALLZ" crowd when it became overly apparent that jealousy and/or pure dislike of the team were the only reasons they were so fired up about things. They'll all remember today and the Seattle Super Bowl...but none of them will have any recollection of that Jacksonville playoff game or other times where the Steelers were apologized to by the league after the fact.
But...you know...they're all right. It's good to forget about potentially bad calls against a team, while repeatedly condemning potentially bad calls favoring that same team. Just like it's good to ignore NFL championships won by a franchise in the pre-Super Bowl era, while only noticing championships won in the Super Bowl. In other words, being a Capone/Modell. -
dazedconfusedjust saw the highlight, that's a tough one to swallow for the dolphins. i guess i can understand the ruling but at the same time, i just don't see how they can not award possession to the dolphins. scrums usually end up awarding possession to whomever comes out with the ball and in this case that was the dolphins (at least everything i've heard the dolphins handed the refs the ball). seems as if the steelers caught a break in this game. those breaks tend to even out over the course of the season, so the steelers might want to keep the lube handy just in case they get the screwjob lol
-
VinqtinAs others have pointed out, this wasn't the last play of the game. There was still plenty of time left on the clock and I felt pretty confident that Steelers would get the ball back and score. Nevertheless, the Steelers shouldn't have to apologize for the officials mistake.
BTW, in reading through the Bills @ Ravens thread I didn't see anyone on there saying that the Refs cheated for the Ravens. There were some pretty iffy calls in that one and they ALL favored the Ravens. -

Trust me, Bills fans are livid. But you do make a valid point, no one on here is saying the ravens had the refs in their pockets -

Post-Game Interview with Steelers Tackle Jonathon Scott...
"I had the ball but the official said 'Let the ball go, it's a touchdown," so I did. But I knew I had the ball because I was losing the feeling in my arm from squeezing it." -- Jonathan Scott, Steelers RT who said he recovered Roethlisberger's fumble in the end zone on the bizarre replay review

thanks, didn't see that. wish the refs wouldn't have screwed it up in the first place so we wouldn't have this he said she said between the two teamsVinqtin;531837 wrote:Post-Game Interview with Steelers Tackle Jonathon Scott...

I disagree that the side judges view made it seem like it was a clear TD. The live TV view was from his vantage point and my intial reaction to it live was that the ball was going forward too fast for it to be in the control of the QB. So I was very surprised he would immediately raise his arms and blow his whistle, especially with the usually conservative approach the officials take on a goal line potentially scoring play since repaly came into being. Once the side jusdge did that mistake, the outcome was correctly handled.I Wear Pants;531345 wrote:Because the side judges view made it seem like a clear touchdown. Before they showed the replays from the goalpost viewpoint I was sure it was a touchdown with the fumble caused by the ground or at least after it broke the plane. That's what it looked like to the side judge, a clear touchdown. So he waves the play dead. You can't call the play dead and then look at a replay and say "oh, I was wrong" and then say "who picked the ball up after I called it dead? You, ok, your ball now."
Good officiating.
Do we know where home is for the side judge? Because his quick, erroneous action saved it for the Steelers. The ref, from the Pitt area, did what was appropriate for what happened before he had to rule, so I wouldn't blame him with any homer favoritism. -
THE4RINGZBack in 1960 Dan Rooney made a deal with The Freemasons, the Taliban, The Skull and Bones Society, NASA, PETA, The United Nations, The Gambino Family, and Israel. They convinced him to be the grassy knoll shooter in the Kennedy assasination and in return for that, his NFL franchise would forever be rewarded with generous officiating at times when it was most needed. Dan Brown is in the process of writing a book about this very topic. If you align all six Lombardi Trophies at Heinz Field correctly, the door to the headquarters of The New World Order opens up. The headquarters are located below the stadium.
Just an FYI for all you. -

I LOL'd. Classic. -
j_crazyI'm definitely the biggest dolfan here, and while i hate that call, and feel without a doubt it cost the dolphins the game, i'm not that upset with it.
the dolphins should have had at least 1 TD on those 2 fumbles in the 1st quarter. that was a bigger concern for me. that and the fact that they haven't run the ball well at all the entire season.
i'm a firm believer in the philosophy that says "just win the fucking game and the refs won't have any say in it." -
ts1227Schefter described it rather simply on Sportscenter... "Good call, bad rule".
He compared it to the call that cost the Lions a win in week 1, seems obvious, except for the retarded rule that changes it all. -
NonIt might be changed in the offseason.
The ref answered the questions that many have asked but basically said that because it was ruled a touchdown on the field, the officials didn't follow through with deciding who recovered the football. They reacted as if it was a touchdown and they started to get ready for the extra point. Then after it was changed to a fumble by replay they had to go back and review which team made the recovery but they didn't have a clear recovery. -
bases_loadedGuy on red zone channel said it best. If they just watch the replay another 10 seconds you'll see who has it.
