  Not every base has an umpire that can be there and definitively make a call either way. Balls and strikes should be somewhat arbitrary to the umpire. Some call a strike when a ball is a bit high or outside and some don't. Hitters would know and watch the tape it would be like throwing into one of those things at the fair and take the true art of pitching out of it.

  I enjoy the dynamic an ump brings to a game. Players have to adjust. I go to probably 15-20 Reds games and another 5-10 Dragons/Bats games every year and I don't want to look at a scoreboard to see if a pitch was a ball or strike. I really don't see how it would benefit the game, you still have to have a home plate ump to make other calls. What if you have technology issues, do you delay the game or have the ump start calling? It would be impossible to set up the technology the exact same in every park so I don't see how it would be an improvement. The umps are part of the game.

  I'm ok with instant replay in football and in some instances in baseball and basketball. Outside of that let the men who you put IN CHARGE of calling a game, call the game.

  So you are saying the true art of pitching is trying to find the place the umpire gives you something? What garbage, the true art of pitching should be to get the batter out by throwing it in the real defined strike zone according to the rules. We are cheating skilled hitters that know the strike zone much better than the hitters. That was truly a travesty to call out Drew on that last pitch by Bray that was off the plate!

  Baseball has had ONE man each game call balls and strikes for how many years??? If it ain't broke(which it's NOT), DON'T fix it.

  You do realize the strike zone isn't the same size for every batter right? How would it determine the zone for guys who haven't been in the league before? Everyone has different proportions from foot to knee to chest. People also have different stances that slightly change the zone.

  Maybe you can't set it up the same in every park the same with the angles, elevations and such, but with the magic of computers I think the same info can be gleaned from some acceptable angle and generate equivalent calls. If the tech goes out, then do like when the scoreboard goes out in a timed game, either delay the game or wait till it is fixed. It shouldn't be that often. How many times since they've reviewed close home run calls have the umps came out and said "we didn't have any replays as it was out, so we are sticking with the ruling on the field"? You could let the computer call the balls and strikes by a buzz to the umpire to raise his right arm. Or give each team 5 challenges of called balls and strikes, and they only lose a challenge when they are wrong. Just like in tennis, when the challenge is requested, the ruling is almost instantaneous. But I favor calling them electronically outright thru the umpire buzz!

  Each one is measured and it programmed into the computer before he steps on the field for the first time.

  Baseball is already one of the declining sports(in terms of popularity) in America. Electronic balls and strikes would put it even farther down the list of popular sports.

  Yep, he is obligated to be measured at least a half hour before he comes to the plate! And the rule should be changed to some sort of relationship to his dimensions standing straight up, so there are no advantages from what posture you take in your stance.

  I don't see why, you'd be better seeing the true skills of the batter and the pitcher which is the crux of the game!
