Along with a fine..... Dusty & LaRussa get 2 game suspensions and 4 other players just get fines...

Fines go to Phillips, Russ Springer, Molina, and Carpenter.

appeal it...it will be down to 5 and he will miss one start....he really didn't deserve to be suspended. Especially if no other players were suspended.

If Cueto got suspended than so should Carpenter. He was the one who escalated the scuffle

Purposely kicking people in the back with metal spikes shouldn't warrant a suspension? Did any other player throw a punch or kick another player?

    He didn't mean it.

I'm a Reds homer all the way, but Cueto deserves a suspension. Rewatch the video and watch him kicking with his metal spikes on. I guess he messed up Jason LaRue. He ended up getting a minor concussion from getting kicked.

Regardless of how Cueto got where he was or why he kicked, the fact was he kicked people so I get that suspension.

I do agree that Carpenter should have got it for escalating the whole thing. It would have ended at the Dusty/LaRussa pissing match if it wasn't for Carpenter.

Agree that he should be suspended but I think the suspension should be more like 5 games
  • karen lotz
5 games for a starting pitcher and he ends up having his regular start moved back one day. The 7 game suspension basically amounts to a 1 game suspension. Little different rules for starting pitchers when it comes to suspensions.

I agree with Cueto getting suspended. Carpenter should be suspended as well. He's the idiot that caused the fight to escalate once it started to die.

Pitchers should def be suspended by starts, not games IMO. Wonder why selig hasnt changed it

It wouldn't make sense to suspend them by starts since they don't have set days that they pitch.

If they suspended him for 3 starts/appearances, for example, then all you have to do is plug him into 3 straight games to face 1 batter. There's no perfect way to do it.

Jason Larue is a pussy. Only he would end up getting that hurt in a brawl.

So what does that make Cueto, since his whole reason for flailing his legs was cause he was so frightened?

That would make Cueto ghey. Straight men aren't afraid when pussies come at them.
  • Nate
Has nothing to do with Cueto. I thought Larue was a pussy when he was a Red.

I wonder if they use any info on what the umpires HEARD...I mean the ump clearly had Dusty and Tony calmed and Carpenter was still yelling like a 5 star ass and got things all riled up and then it went way past what it ever was.

Had Phillips not done the typical shin guard tap and just stood in there he likely would've been plunked.....he would've either ignored it and took his base or he would've charged the mound and gotten a suspension himself and who knows what follows. I'd put Carpenter and Cueto with the same penalty.

Karma will eventually get to Carpenter...hope I'm watching when it happens.

I think "Karma", if there is such a thing, already stung Phillips and the Reds and about 100,000+ plus people at the 3 game series witnessed it.
  • Ironman92
....that wasn't karma....that's what happens when you're stupid
  • ts1227
Cueto will not appeal, Phillips basically calls him a dumbass for not at least trying to get it cut down.

Dumbass? He said he might as well appeal it, it can't hurt.

That's not calling him a dumbass come on ts don't make Phillips into someone he's not.

Carpenter responds to the ruling .....

"I don't know what's fair and what's not," said Carpenter, who was fined for the altercation. "That's up to [the league]. I stand by my comments that I said before. He was very close -- a millimeter, centimeter away from not only ending my catcher's career but really injuring him and doing some things that would ruin parts of his life.

"All the stuff that happened in that thing, the yelling, the talking, the pushing, the fighting, everything else, there was nobody throwing punches, there was nobody doing any of that stuff. And I don't care how scared you are, I don't care what the deal is, whatever excuse you have, you don't start doing that."
