Brett Favre informs Vikings that He will Retire.....No so fast my friend.
-
Strapping Young LadThe ESPN ticker says Longwell spoke to Favre earlier today and there was no indication he was retiring, lol. WTF...
-
sjmvsfscs08Favre sent a text to a few players saying "this is it." To me he could be retiring or ESPN could just blow it out of proportion like always. I don't see Favre as a diva, I see ESPN as shitty journalism and baseball to boring for them not to talk about it ad nauseum.
That could very well have meant this will be his last season so they need to haul ass. Who knows. I won't believe he's retired until he's dead haha
Brett is the man. -

Agree.....I've seen non-stop coverage this afternoon about "Favre retires" but have yet to actually see one word regarding the matter from Favre himself.sjmvsfscs08;440396 wrote:Favre sent a text to a few players saying "this is it." trackandccrunnerI'm sure most on here will love this article from Page 2 on ESPN. I found it funny as well but I still love Brett and it will be sad not seeing him out there if he actually has retired.

IggyPride00Favre may not be done after all.
The Vikes have reportedly offered him an extra $3 million a year ($16 million) plus incentives to come back again.
Maybe the extra money will change the ole gun slinger's mind. -

No. Lebron is an egotistical asshole.
If he was a diva, he would have been wavering back and forth publicly between two teams.
He didn't give 7 fanbases hope, those fanbases gave themselves hope. All Lebron did was interview them and then hold a 1 hour special. Much more egotistical than diva. 2 different matters. -
gutLebron toying and teasing about FA for 2 years leading up to it is certainly diva-ish behavior. Going on a tour to be wined&dined when you and your buddies put this thing into motion 3-4 years ago is diva-ish.
Lebron is both an egomaniac AND a diva, it's just his massive ego overshadows the diva. -
gutDiva in its current popular misuse, is basically someone with a massive ego. It does not mean one is a drama queen, which is what Favre is more of (Favre is not really a diva). I suppose if I would offer a distinction, ego is an internal trait but diva's exhibit outward behavior characteristic of having an inflated ego.
From wordiq: http://www.wordiq.com/definition/Diva
"As of late, diva has had a negative connotation, as the word can be used to imply that the star believes the only thing that matters is his or her person, and that everyone involved in a project must cater to his or her every whim. "
Yeah, doesn't sound like Lebron at all, LOL. Lebron is both an egomaniac AND a diva (which is actually somewhat redundant). Toying and teasing about his FA status for 2 years leading up to it is certainly diva-ish behavior. Going on a tour to be wined & dined when you and your buddies put this in motion 4 years ago is also diva-ish behavior. He knew all along he was going to MIA if they had the cap space. The recruiting tour is typical attention seeking you'd expect from a diva. -
IggyPride00Favre is practicing at Oak Grove High School this morning.
Update: The Minneapolis Star Tribune is also reporting the offer to Favre is up to $20 million for this year.
Could this whole thing have been a test from Brett to make sure he was still wanted and appreciated by team management. I have been reading they have apparently been putting alot of pressure on him to show up for the first pre-season game and he wanted no part of that.
Just as he punked Childress about the play calling last year to make him look bad (Brett was right though) could Favre be telling team management to back off about showing up by threatening to with hold his talents this season?
Is this just an exercise in reminding the Vikings who really is in control and has the power in this relationship? -

What tour did he go on? Did he not have everyone come to Cleveland?! Or am I missing this imaginary tour? -
karen lotzEd Werder just reported Favre told him he will play if he is healthy and he denied texting any Viking players saying he was retiring. Leave it to ESPN to dedicate basically 4 channels plus national radio shows for a 24 hour period to a non story.

I'm sure Favre led them on as well, but ESPN has less of a burden of proof than the National Enquirer anymore. -
gutIs all this over a text message stating nothing more than "this is it"? That could mean a lot of things. Favre has neither confirmed nor denied the rumor he is retiring. I think he legitimately still doesn't know if his ankle will be good enough to play, maybe at least not to start the year. And he certainly probably has no intention of showing up and going thru several weeks of training camp.
I don't think it's anything more than that. Some analyst said today "if MIN wants to throw money at him to try to add some extra motivation, Favre isn't stupid he'll take it...but that doesn't mean that's what's driving this".
I am 99% certain he will play this year. Whether that is WK1 or WK4 or WK6 is anyone's guess. The guy really wants another ring - that's why he wanted to go to MIN back the first time he retired. The team is right there. No way he's going to retire if he's physically able to play. -
karen lotzgut;441498 wrote:Is all this over a text message stating nothing more than "this is it"?
Yes. ESPN is a joke anymore. Ed Werder didn't seem to happy that he was sent to Mississippi to wait for Favre to appear. He was camped out outside his house for a day for nothing. -

God its embarrassing you are actually from Ohio State...please transfer to ND or scUM so we can all hate you and your ridiculous comments unconditionally. -

I am surprised they sent Ed Werder. Usually Rachel Nichols is the one who camps out on Favre's lawn reporting his weed eating or brush clearing activities for the day while waiting on "the decision" about whether he will share "his talents" with the NFL the upcoming season. -
karen lotzShe must have been busy blowing someone.

Yeah, been that way for quite a while.
I think the one of their worst moments was when video of Roethlisberger's accuser was released....The most amazingly unconvincing "rape victim" you could imagine....You can almost see the interviewer's jaw drop with incredulity when she claims he assaulted her WHILE SEATED on a toilet. What does ESPN (and CNNSI) run and focus on? "victim feared Roethlisberger's temper". Wow.
But maybe this latest Favre debacle takes the cake. Although, to be fair, I think I've seen media manufacture stories on less (the infamous "unnamed source" leaking a juicy and completely unconfirmed/uncorroborated incident. -
gutLOL, and now the story takes a somewhat bizarre turn...

bartsimpsonwow, not sure who needs to hear their name on TV more, Brett Favre or Paris Hilton? You know what' weird, you never see those two in the same place at the same time....maybe they are the same person?
Funny, Brett let the whole "retirement" thing go on for almost 24 hours before putting a stop to it. Seems to me all it would have taken was one phone call yesterday....but what fun would that have been? -

Strapping Young LadWhy is it Favre's responsibility to quell ESPN's massive overreaction to this "story"?

He started it, the least he could do is stop it. -

How did he start it exactly? No Vikings have come out and confirmed that he even texted them have they?? Longwell was the one who came out and said he had talked to Favre a lot recently, even for 15 minutes yesterday and there was ZERO mention of retirement.
I'm not saying you are wrong, just maybe I missed something?
