Should The Cleveland Cavs Retire LeBron's Number?

  No. He did nothing for this team. Didn't try to recruit a single player in 7 years here. Implored the Cavs to bring in big salaries around him to leave us holding the bag when he "executed his plan". Threw a playoff series that we could have won because winning a championship here would take away the biggest excuse he had to "execute his plan". We found out he was leaving while he was on national television pissing in our faces. The guy is the scum of the earth, and his jersey will burn on the floor before it ever hangs in the rafters. Christian Eyenga should wear #23 this year.

  Speaking of Bingo, Bobby Bingo Smith deserves his number retired as he didn't embarass the city nor the team publicly in a narcissistic show of arrogance. I like the Z idea as well....he sacrificied his body and especially his feet for the team....and I don't think he quit his teammates in a playoff game or two.

  You retire someone's number out of respect... there is no reason the Cavalier organization should show LeBron that much respect considering how he showed no class at all for the Cavaliers or fans.

  To those saying he won't even have played the majority of his career here, Nate Thurmond got his number retired with a whole 2 years of service (actually less because he was traded a few games into the season) to the Cavs.
  
  He basically got it retired for being a hometown guy who was good before he got to the Cavs to ride off into the sunset.
  
  Now, obviously he couldn't play with the Cavs for his whole career because they didn't exist for about half of it... but he didn't do a thing in Cleveland to get it retired (because it was the last 2 years of his career) other than be a really good basketball player born in Akron.
  
  I'm not saying it should or shouldn't be retired, just comparing the past precedent.

  He didn't win a championship, he didn't deliver on his word, he left the city in a terrible way.. He just doesn't deserve it.

  As long as Dan Gilbert owns the Cavs, LeBron will NEVER have his jersey retired.

  Hmmm retire James and Z's numbers? That would bring the storied Cavs franchise up to 8 retired numbers? Seems kinda high for a franchise that really has very little winning or tradition. Not sure how many the Celtics have retired or all other franchises but 8 seems awfully high for a franchise like Cleveland. But hey, all because some of the guys were good guys and played during the Miracle in Richfield or the Jordan era retire their numbers sounds like a good enough reason to me.

  I thought about it a little more and now think Dwest should change his number to 23 before he leaves and then we retire the number with West on the back.

  I'm just curious on this one. I heard Colin Cowherd make the point that LeBron was the only Cavs player to win his matchup against the Celtics - he doubled up Paul Pierce's (?) production in the series. No other Cavalier outplayed the man with whom he was matched up. I know people get hung up on LeBron's attitude toward the end of a couple games, but what other back up is there to this whole "threw the series" conspiracy?
  
  I'm not sure why the Cavs have so many retired jerseys to begin with. Do they just retire numbers for guys who were there for a long time?

  He spent twice as much time in Cleveland as LeBron, which will be all but maybe 1-2 seasons of his entire career. He battled back through multiple foot surgeries and was a fan favorite. He was a constant through decent, terrible, and then great years.
  
  If (when) LeBron finally ever gets his title his career legacy will be as a member of the Heat, not the Cavs.
  
  There is no question Ilgauskas is more deserving to get his jersey retired in Cleveland when you look at the whole picture.
