Pittsburgh Steelers training camp and preseason 2010

Because the haters on this board think so? I love it, they're flying under the radar and they still have a lot of the components that won them Super Bowl XLIII on this team. I wouldn't rule them out of winning the division and making a playoff run again, they've done it before, some of them twice.Footwedge;439744 wrote:I have a feeling the Steelers are gonna suck this year. -
killer_ewokDon't mind footwedge. He's just doing his best Al Capone/Art Modell imitation.
I'm sure Al/Art is flattered. -

Well, I have to give this opinion some respect, because since you're a Browns fan, if anyone knows what being associated with a team that sucks feels like, it would be you. -

I agree. This team looks to be in complete disarray. -
Nonrock_knutne;439742 wrote:Tomlin must think otherwise or he wouldn't have drafted him. Time will tell.
FYI, Hood has been lining up at nose guard too.
He's talented, don't get me wrong, but much quicker and more explosive than a typical nose tackle or defensive end.
On one hand it's nice too have somebody that can get some pressure up front but normally those positions in a 3-4 require the player to anchor against the run and tie up blockers.
He'll make plays this season I'm sure. Just not sure where he fits in as a starter in the future. -

LMFAO.......yeah, one of the most successful franchises in all of sports is in complete disaray. -
rock_knutneRadio reports said Ben is looking very sharp. He only has one incomplete pass thus far in camp and it was a tipped ball. Too bad he's riding the pine for the first four games, it will be very interesting when he gets back in the lineup.
They're also reporting that Byron Leftwich has looked shaky at the start of this camp but has been getting regular first team snaps ahead of Dixon. IMO, Dixon is going to have to really shine in pre-season games if he wants the starting nod at QB, seems Tomlin is really set on Leftwich starting. -
AutomatikHeard on 105.9 morning show that Polamalu was gimping after a few plays. The guys sounded pretty pissed, calling for him to be sitting out. Also Pouncey tweaked a hamstring.
-
rock_knutne^^^^^Pouncey participated in full contact drills this afternoon and the news on Polamalu is the first I've heard all day......I've been listening to 102.5 WDVE in the morning, ESPN radio 1250 and 93.7 The Fan in the afternoon, they have been broadcasting live from Latrobe all week.

NonPost Gazette's Gerry Dulac says rookie Emmanuel Sanders has been a training camp sensation so far.
Dulac said he's "exceptionally quick in and out of breaks" and knows how to find the holes in the secondary, having played in June Jones' run-and-shoot offense the past few years. -

rock_knutneAnyone watch/listen/read Goodell's presser at Steelers camp today? The guy is a fucking idiot! The Pittsburgh media asked some very tough questions, especially in regards to Vince Young and Cedric Benson not receiving suspensions for their recent troubles. He gave all the wrong answers, said the circumstances were completely different. I don't get it, he nails Ben with six games and there's no charges, no arrest and basically no proof, yet, Young was caught on camera in a brawl and Benson had charges levelled against him. Too many inconsistencies with Goodell, this is the same guy who said management and coaches should be held to even higher standards but nothing happened to Tom Cable for allegedly breaking a guys jaw, what about Sean Peyton and the narcotics story in New Orlelans or Spy Gate? I hope the players can get a deal done where Goodell doesn't have the only say on these issues, especially when he levells the punishment and here's the appeals.......total joke!
-
killer_ewokI like Roger Goodell. I think he does a pretty good job.

I just ask he be consistant with some of his rulings. Clearly he went over the top with Ben and his explaination for the incidents I described above is ridiculous. Vince Young brawling at a strip joint isn't exactly conduct worthy of upholding the league policy and it was caught on video.
And I bring it up because it's been huge news in Pittsburgh since he ruled on the Vince Young story, a lot of fans aren't happy at what they think is a double standard. Personally, I agree. -
rock_knutneBack to training camp.......I listened to an interview this morning on WDVE with Polamalu. Troy says he's not injured at all, just taking it slow to be absolutely 100% sure he's physically ready by week one. Although, he admitted, even though he feels great he doesn't know exactly where he stands until he goes full tilt in game.
Also, Byron Leftwich had marked improvement, especially in red zone drills where he went 4 TD's out of 5 tries. -
rock_knutneewok, you been listening to 93.7 The Fan's 6PM show with Greg Gianatti and Josh Miller? Pretty good radio show and Miller is better than I thought he'd be, very knowledgable even for be an ex-punter, lol.
-
DeyDurkie5some fanbase you have here rock, you are talking to yourself lol

HereticMan, when there's "too many" Steelers fans talking, this "gol'durn'it, we'uns bein' at an Uhhighya board!" attitude comes out. But if one dude is the only guy posting in the nine minutes it took to make three posts, we suck because we're not all constantly tuned into this thread.
Anyhoo...while I think Goodell is good in theory at bringing more discipline back to the league, he does come off as inconsistent. I have no problem with disciplining Ben due to (whether he committed a crime or not) being an immature punk getting into negative situations due to being a boozehound, especially considering how he is one of the bigger names in the league. But at times, I get the impression he spins a roulette wheel to determine which potential player transgression(s) will get the hardcore judgment. -
Prescott
He had to seveerly punish the high profile white QB, so there wouldn't be cries of racism.Young was caught on camera in a brawl and Benson had charges levelled against him. Too many inconsistencies with Goodell, -
Nonfrom Ed Bouchette (camp notes)
- David Johnson (TE) is the favorite to be the Steelers blocking fullback
- WR Antonio Brown has had a good camp, despite being overshadowed by Emmanuel Sanders. Both WRs look good.
- Thad Gibson has outplayed Jason Worilds so far.
- Good start to camp for Doug Legursky, who is battling for an interior line spot
- Tony Hills' days are numbered -

You and heretic make a good point about the consistency or lack thereof. I just like that he cracks down on a lot of the garbage in the league.
No I haven't. I'll have to give it a listen soon.rock_knutne;443277 wrote:ewok, you been listening to 93.7 The Fan's 6PM show with Greg Gianatti and Josh Miller? Pretty good radio show and Miller is better than I thought he'd be, very knowledgable even for be an ex-punter, lol. -
Nonmore training camp notes from Ed Bouchette
- Isaac Redman has emerged as the likely goal-line back and he's done a decent job as a blocker. This likely means the end of the Frank Summers era. The Steelers will probably not have any true fullbacks on the roster, though TE/H-back David Johnson expects to be the starter in that role.
- Rookie ILB Stevenson Sylvester has looked good. Worilds and Gibson have been injured mostly this week.
- CB David Pittman has been a surprise. He was in the UFL last season and before that spent some time with the Ravens. He wasn't expected to compete for a roster spot but he has shown some physical play at corner. -
gutThe hype surrounding this camp honestly is a lot more optimistic than normal, despite a lot of reasons (and the national media) not to be.
Ben sounds like he is on a mission. Ed Bouchette said Ben has been the most impressive player in camp thus far. People are also raving about Sanders, which is great for the #3 WR and he might already have bumped Randle El down the depth chart. Wallace has looked good, too. Hopefully they won't miss Holmes much.
Hood sounds like a beast and Burnett and Lewis are getting strong reviews. Even without Ben for 4 games, I'm getting really excited about this year.
