Official MLB Trade Deadline Thread

I do find it funny that the White Sox acquired Edwin Jackson for Daniel Hudson (you could argue he's better than Jackson, or could be going forward, even this year) just to spin him to the Nationals for Adam Dunn, since Jackson is who they coveted. Then, the Nats decide they aren't sure about Jackson and the deal is still stalled, and now, possibly completely off. The good old Nationals...no matter who is running the organization, they are pissing SOMEONE off. Then again, in the end, that franchise always finds a way to lose and end up at the bottom of the barrel.

The Cubs are "closing in" on the deal that would send Ted Lilly to the Dodgers according to Buster Olney.

So within the last couple of days the Nats will have dealt their biggest long ball threat as well as their closer...

Might as well just deal Strasburg to top it all off

this just in... Rangers have now acquired Cristian Guzman from Washington in exchange for 2 prospects... For a team in the middle of bankruptcy proceedings that can't afford to add payroll the Rangers have added Benji Molina, Cliff Lee, Jorge Cantu and now Gzman in a little more than a month... Staggering isn't it?
  • The Enforcer
Ken Rosenthal is reporting that the White Sox are out of the talks for Adam Dunn.

If that is true, I dont understand the Edwin Jackson trade at all.

Heard this at like 4:00. Olney said on ESPN that they have added 6M in payroll.

    ^^^^

to most eams 6 mil doesn't seem like a whole lot but to a team in the middle of what they're in, 6 million added has got to irk a lot of creditors, including Alex Rodriguez, Michael Young, Kevin Millwood, and Doug Glanville who are clamoring to collect their money
  • The Enforcer
It is being reported that the "shock the world" deal Kenny Williams tried to make was for Manny Ramirez.

I dont blame the Dodgers for rejecting it, with Williams wanting to pay 6 of the 7 million left on his deal and sending no players to LA.
  • The Enforcer
Arizona traded closer Chad Qualls to Tampa

Arizona and Pittsburgh made a deal

Arizona sent Chris Snyder and prospects to Pittsburgh for Bobby Crosby, Ryan Church and DJ Carrasco
  • The Enforcer
Cleveland traded Jake Westbrook to St Louis

Did he really think that was going to happen? What fantasy world does he live in?
  • The Enforcer
He tried to do the same thing he did with Alex Rios last year.

Manny has hardly played this season and killed my fantasy team for the first 3 months. When he is healthy he only plays 2 out of 3 games per series. Like I said about Berkman, this isn't the same guy from to 2-3 years ago. I would tend to think that the Dodgers gave this more thought than you think

Cleveland trades Jake Westbrook to St Louis
St Louis trades Ryan Ludwick to San Diego
San Diego sends a prospect to Cleveland and St Louis

So the Rays counter the move by the Yankees by signing a reliever with a sky high ERA? Lol my team is STINGY.

Good thing I dont really care about baseball TOO much, Just always liked Crawford

Buster Olney on the Dodgers: "Just wondering: Why would the Dodgers not want to move Manny Ramirez, to shed dollars and perhaps create room for other stuff?"

The Mets made an offer for Carlos Zambrano and were turned down

I wasn't questioning the player, i was questioning Williams, in getting Manny, getting the Dodgers to pay 7 million, AND not send any players to LA in return? Thats asking a little too much IMO

    that's hilarity

Pirates got rid of all their pre-season short-term acquisitions, but for the first year in what seems like forever, didn't trade anyone who ever has been considered a part of their future for any length of time.
