Official MLB Trade Deadline Thread

    Oswalt is not enough.

If that were to happen, Oswalt to the Phils, they'd have an amazing rotation

Getting him out of Houston would be nice, but I'd rather see him go to the AL.

Meh, they'd have a great 1-2 and a good 3 but the rest of the rotation isn't that impressive.

As long as Joe Blanton's being trotted out every five days, they're due for at least one weekly implosion. And, really, when you look at their pitching stats, having good guys in the rotation doesn't mean anything for Philly. Halliday's ERA is 2.40...but he's barely above .500 (10-8). I looked up his last 10 starts on Yahoo and the team's only given him more than three runs twice in that time. Now that's something Oswalt (6-11, despite having a 3.12 ERA) can relate to.

    ^^^

Exactly. They can add Cliff Lee and Josh Johnson too, but if they are going to continue scoring runs like they have recently its not gonna matter. You can't expect to win 1-0, 2-1, 3-2 every game. I know they've had some injury issues with Rollins and Polanco but they still have more then enough offensive firepower to score runs. Something isn't right with their lineup and I don't think trading Werth is going to help that.
  • Azubuike24
    Issues with the lineup:

Rollins missed a ton of time.
Polanco has missed a good amount of time.
Utley is hurt, and even before, he wasn't playing well.
Howard hasn't performed as well as he has in the past.
Werth hasn't performed like he did a year ago.
Ibanez isn't even close to where he was a year ago.

I agree however, the Phils are sinking FAST, and they don't have the time to wait for things to get right. Their offense either performs more consistently or they are in trouble, even if they add 3 more aces.
  • karen lotz
Damn I completely forgot about Utley. Opps. And you are right about everyone else falling off a little bit. The whole lineup can't keep up the production that has got them to the World Series the past two years, just not possible.

    Breaking news...

The Angels have acquired Dan Haren.

Fixed. A guy signed for 25M over the next 2 years (a bargain for ace talent) is acquired for 2 average prospects and a PTBNL? In the same week multiple GM's and media reports had twice as many buyers as sellers and there being far more expensive players with high price tags out there who most teams are unwilling to trade top talent for? WTF?

This may be a crazy, unpredictable deadline.

Honestly, he has been brutal the last year. I know he is leading the NL in Ks, but he has also given up 20 more hits than IP, not to mention how awful he was after the break last season (and most of his career).

He can regain his form and be an Ace again, but right now...he is FAR from it.
  • Tiger2003
The Phillies are making some noise now. Got it back to 5 games in the NL East. The offense has hopefully broke out of the funk.......45 hits and 22 runs in the last 5 games and they have got some great pitching, 2 shout-outs and allowed 2 an 3 runs........Hopefully they can land another pitcher so we can bounce Blanton out of the starting rotation.

    1. Halladay
    2. Hamels
    3. Oswolt
    4. Kendrick
    5. Moyer, Pedro, Blanton

Damn that would be a great first 3 in the starting rotation. 4 and 5 are steady and can get us some wins

Don't forget about Pedro that talk is still active.....

He's pitching. He's eating innings. The Reds are paying Aaron Harang more to do nothing. The Cubs are paying Carlos Zambrano 1.5X as much to go psycho. Yeah Haren has struggled, but with acquisition prices rumored to be so high, this makes very little sense unless a lot of the potential sellers are all bluffing.

Saunders and prospects for Haren was the deal?

They were talking on Sunday Night Baseball about if Los Angeles made the deal to turn around and deal Haren for a bat.

There is now a rumor of a 3 team deal involving Arizona, Washington and the White Sox.

    Chicago would get Adam Dunn
    Washington would get Edwin Jackson
    Arizona would get pitching prospects

There is also a story out there that Kansas City turned down a package from the Yankees for their closer Joakim Soria that involved the Yankees top catching prospect Jesus Montero.

Than the Royals are retarded. Monetero is a beast. Some thought he was the better prospect at catcher ahead of Santana.

THat was the same thing I thought when I read that.

Man, Washington would be getting fucked in that deal. Edwin "one no-hitter and a lot of shit" Jackson isn't the sort of piece that will help their team continue improving. Dude's been mediocre his whole career (with one decent season last year with Detroit).
  • The Enforcer
Texas is getting close to making a deal for Jorge Cantu from Florida.

    Washington is already fucked.....
  • Azubuike24
Johnny Peralta trade to Detroit. Rumors dying on Roy Oswalt, and really heating up on Jake Westbrook and Ted Lilly. Same goes with Adam Dunn, who is wanting a longer-term deal from Washington. Unfortunately for Milwaukee, showcase time for Corey Hart has really diminished as he missed the entire series against Cincinnati. Have to believe the Cubs are going to be big sellers after getting whipped by Houston and having so many guys with big and/or expiring contracts.
  • The Enforcer
Cant believe Cleveland would deal him within the division.

The latest rumor on Ted Lilly is to Philly for JA Happ
  • darbypitcher22
Its not that the Royals are retarded; Soria has the Yankees on a no-trade list that includes 6 teams; he'd like to have the leverage to kind of run the proceedings if that indeed happens
  • The Enforcer
Derrek Lee rejected a trade to the Angels.

Jhonny Peralta traded to the Tigers for Giovanni Soto (single-A pitcher)

(Not to be confused with Geovany Soto of the Cubs... the Indians would never trade for MLB-ready talent, plus they'd never get it for Peralta)

I'll start a separate thread on this one so Tribe fans see it
