Stan Van Gundy talkin sly about Lebron, while praising Kevin Durant and Kobe

  • 2quik4u
    R. Your thoughts on all this free agency stuff?

SVG: It’s gotten ridiculous I think. It’s really I mean it’s almost like a parody of itself this whole situation now. Come on, an hour long? It takes 15 seconds to say I’ve decided to stay in Cleveland but we’ve got another 59 minutes and 45 seconds to, what? Promote LeBron James? As if we don’t do that enough. Look, the guy’s a great player and wherever he goes, my bet would be Cleveland, that place will be excited. But an hour long special?

    R. Sign of the times, I guess.

SVG: It is a sign of the times. Unfortunately. It’s amazing that a guy as good as Kobe Bryant simply extended his contract with no real fanfare or anything else.

    R. Kevin Durant did, too.

SVG: Yeah and Kevin Durant is more in the Kobe Bryant mode. You don’t hear Kobe Bryant and certainly not Kevin Durant talking about their brand. They don’t. I hear that from the other guys. I don’t hear those guys talking about their brand, they’re simply basketball players who want to be great players and win games. Not that those other guys aren’t great players and don’t want to win games. They do, but there’s also more to it. It’s not what I like. Other people, I guess, like it. I’m sure it will be a widely watched show tomorrow. It simply will not have me as an audience.

And how much more is Lebron worth to his endorsers than Kobe and Durant? It's all about promoting the brand and I don't fault Lebron for that.

well considering that kobe makes more then lebron a year, without having to pull out all this bullshit. I think that answers your question

you sure about that? I know kobe sells more jerseys, but I thought Lebron was the bigger endorsement deals.

I also like how he fails to mention that Kobe boo hoo I wanna be traded saga.

Kobe is supposedly revered as a God in China because of his championships.

What Lebron has missed all along is that winning builds the brand more than anything.

kobe is at 45 mil and lebron is around 40

First thing's first, he only mentioned Kobe Bryant until the reporter mentioned that Kevin Durant had done the same. So no, he did not originally praise Kevin Durant and Kobe, just Kobe.

Kobe's 5 Championship Rings alone are worth more than Lebron will ever make or have.

I sort of agree with Van Gundy. If this were anyone but LBJ all of you guys would be saying the same. Now we are going to see all of these clowns follow in his foot steps and have their own shows to announce their intentions. I can see Lebron's show now, every commerical break we'll hear the announcer say "after the break, Lebron makes his decision"--- only to have to wait for annother hour. The whole hour is going to be self promotion, mixed in with Lebron talking to disabled and poor kids. I think we need to vbook the odds that Lebron picks up some tiny kid and helps him dunk the basketball.

With the exception of going on Larry King, LeBron has done NOTHING to promote all of this. The 1 hour special isn't needed at all though. Hold a press conference, make your announcement and get ready for the season.

you are assuming that Lebron's people aren't the one's playing with the media and leaking all these garbage rumors.

An hour? That's almost longer than we saw him during the playoffs.
  • Swamp Fox
By the way, I wonder how much a 30 second commercial spot will cost on the "Lebron Special' ?

    Yea I'm assuming that.

It would be a lot different if we saw LeBron on Sportscenter everyday talking about it.
