He is definitely the riskiest signing....with his injury issues. Amare will put up awesome stats in that system though...until they get bounced early in the playoffs.

I don't believe Amar'e will ever win a championship. He plays no defense and takes an incredible portion of the cap.
  • Hb31187
Amare played defense just fine last year, everyone still thinks he plays no defense because all they remember is the Run n Gun suns. Not his fault the other team puts up 110+ a night because of coaching style. And hes gonna be right back in that system lol

I thought he played Pau Gasol fairly well in that series. I absolutely love Amare's game and think he's a top 2 PF in the NBA, along with Bosh and Gasol the 3rd best. When you can add a player of this caliber, you do it. You don't wait around for anyone else.

With that said, his knee have to scare the crap out of you. But from everything that has been said this weekend, it will just be one year before he's joined with Carmelo.

Plus, if nothing else, he will sell some tickets. Dude is fun to watch!

He probably can't win a championship as top banana on a team but if they can get somebody like Melo in the future then they might have something.

Who knows about the future....didn't the Nuggets come out and say that if they cannot work out an extension now, they are willing to trade him NOW?

Amar'e is not a top 2 pf. He's overrated and now over payed.

I love this signing. And if my Knicks can sign my favorite player, Melo, next year.......my NBA life will no longer suck giant camel dicks. I've been waiting for the Knicks to be semi-respectable for some time now. Maybe next year or the year after.....
  • Laley23
His best year was with D'Antoni. Right back with him now.

    More from Bill Simmons:

"sportsguy33: Stephen A. Smith reports that N.Y. became sold on Amar'e after seeing Shawn Marion's staggering success upon leaving Steve Nash."

I think a lot of Cavalier fans have been spoiled over the past few years. Players like Lebron James do not grow on trees. There are only 4-5 Tier 1 players (the Lebrons of the world) in this league. Most years you need at least one Tier 1 guy to even sniff the Finals. Sometimes teams without Tier 1 guys can get there but they must have a ensemble cast of really good tier 2 guys (Boshes, Stoudemires, Rondos). The point is that not everybody can get a Lebron, Kobe, or D-wade because they are so rare.

The Knicks are probably being pragmatic here. They probably see the writing on the wall that they aren't getting Wade or Lebron. After that you have the Amares and Boshes. The Knicks probably leaned toward Amare because of his history with D'antoni. (By the way your argument of Amare being overrated might have water if he played with a new coach, but he is perfect for D'antoni's system; he'll be uber-productive). I say the Knicks were being pragmatic because in all honesty we are probably going to see everybody go back to their former teams (save Bosh). The Knicks are now assured of getting a great talent (and not being shut out after all the purging). The fans will be happy with this move and the Knicks will have made it seem as if they are serious about a championship. The Knicks can now get their ducks in a row for 'Melo whenever he and the Nuggets decided their time together is up.

    He averaged 23/9 56%
    Bosh 24/11/52%
    Gasol 18/11/55%

Who else is in the discussion?

BTW, I'm still really surprised in the lack of interest in David Lee. Dude will be a stud once he's paired with someone half way decent.
    David Lee 20/9/55%

Yeah, the paid way too much when they should have just kept David Lee and added a max guy and some depth. How big of an upgrade is Amare over Lee?....some, but not for that much money.
  • Mulva
Amare is actually a pretty solid weak side defender now, and obviously his offense will still be there under the Knicks system.

He isn't good enough to make that much of a change on his own though. Definitely needs another top 10-15 type player alongside him.

Who though? Lebron is probably staying in Cleveland. If not Cleveland then NJ. D-Wade seems to be Chicago/Miami bound. Bosh is a PF too (so same predicament as now). The Knicks went and grabbed the sure thing while they still can and now they can concentrate elsewhere.

    Joe Johnson!!!!

sorry, I am still laughing at Atlanta
  • Trueblue23
IMO there are 3 TOP LEVEL players in the NBA, Kobe, LeBron and Dwade.

Kevin Durant will probably make it 4 by the end of 2010-2011.

Stoudemire is nothing without a solid PG to set him up. I think he flops in NY, and I'm not even a hater.

Also does anyone hate the Knicks? I don't even know if that's possible.
