Reds @ Cubs.....Game 4
-
Ironman92since dave's streak is broken I'll start a thread.......and not only will I start it......I'm going to say how impressed I was with Brandon Phillips' interview after the 12-0 win in game #2.
He was asked about the comment he is getting the credit for "Time to compete is over....now it's time to win"...when being asked about that Phillips said, "Any team can compete, we need to win. Scott Rolen and Orlando Cabrera were brought over here to show us how to win and that's exactly what they have done."
On being asked about his HR Phillips stated, " I've been taking the first pitch trying to get on base for the big guys but I told Dusty that Dempster has been filthy and getting ahead of everyone so I'm going to swing at the 1st pitch next at bat....I'm glad it worked out for me."
Between his plate approaches and his words.....Brandon Phillips is really starting to get it and doing exactly what the Reds need to be successful.
Also giving due credit to Joey Votto for his all out hustle on every hit ball and his agressiveness on defense...we all knew he could hit but he is jumping on the "how to approach everything like Scott Rolen" aspect and it's working wonders.
This team has me believing more than any other Reds team since 1999 and 1995........gotta keep it going....but with solid pitching, solid leadership and the appreciation of hustle and defense.......this team has a real shot.
and it does help that 1/2 the NL is just quite crappy -
Ironman92Mike Leake vs Ted Lilly
Now we'll really see how Dusty is with the matchup........I believe Scott Rolen will be off tomorrow....IF he is will Dusty play Cairo or Janish?
Past belief would guarantee he'll play Cairo...but he seems to really be using the "numbers" since he was put on the hot seat back in late April / early May
Going by gut....he'll play Cairo....but let's look at the numbers Dusty
Career vs Ted Lilly.......Miguel Cairo 4/20.........Paul Janish (aka Jimmy Kimmel) is 2/3 with 2 doubles.
I know it's a tiny sample....but you don't luck out and hit 2 doubles in 3 AB versus a pitcher.....Janish is way more apt to go opposite field than Cairo.
Righties like Phillips and Gomes need to step up and hit Lilly tomorrow. -
Swamp FoxMilwaukee was crushing St. Louis early. It would appear that the Reds will maintain their 1.5 game lead over the Cardinals. let's get it back together tomorrow and start another streak!
-
daveI think Rolen will play and sit Monday against Pelfrey. Then he could play the final 6 until the break.
Bruce and/or Votto should rest so they can go the next 7 straight until the break. -
daveCards cut 11-0 deficit to 11-5. 3 innings left. Pooholes hit his league leading 20th HR.
-
daveNo Rolen, I guess Dusty can't be creative. Could be a long day against Lilly.

rugbywrestlerDamnit Joey

mhs95_06Votto's temper is becoming a problem. He really let his team down there, and I don't think the ump was wrong. I just think he is upset about the things today that have happened before that pitch, like the all-star snub, and the high inside pitch.
-
osu45804That ends Joey's streak of getting on base
-
mhs95_06The rest of the Reds have to suck it up after Votto's debacle of giving up continuance of his 40 game on base streak, and more importantly extremely weakened the team who are trying to win the series. It would be a very bad note to split this first series of the important road trip after they took the first two. I was going to be in favor of him winning the vote for that last all-star position, but now I am not after that outlandish behavior.
-
mhs95_06Way to hustle on that shot to short, Cairo. It almost caused the ball to get away at first as the hustle caused the throw to be rushed and Lee had to make a good pick to get the out. Phillips would have been out by four steps.
-
mhs95_06Stubbs with trouble again on a ball hit directly over his head! But he gets the out to end the 3rd.
-
osu45804Reds lead 3-2 after a triple from Ramon!!
-
mhs95_06Bruce has no success, again, with runners on 3rd and less than 2 out! That hurts! Especially after Hernandez exerts himself to get to 3rd with one out.
-
osu45804since 1952, there hasn’t been a National League player to rank in the top 5 in Batting, HR and RBI and NOT make the All-Star team ....... So hopefully Joey gets voted in!
-
mhs95_06After that first AB from the 3rd spot in the Reds line-up, they've gotten pretty good production the 2nd and 3rd AB!
-
mhs95_06Will Hanigan be activated tomorrow and Hernandez go on the DL?
-
mhs95_06Reds need to keep adding on runs with the wind blowing out.

Is Corky now dinged up too with the contact on that interference? -
jordo212000Bonehead move by Votto. The Reds are in a pennant race, you can't be stupid and get ejected
-
osu45804Reds up 7-3
-
osu45804Jonny Gomes!!! 9-3 Reds
-
mhs95_06After two out in the 7th, four straight hits(the last three on 0-2 counts), including two homers, produce 4 runs for the Reds and open up a good 9-3 working margin!
-
osu45804Corky Miller plays longball too 10-3 Reds
