Strasburg......Start #3

  I'm not crowning him anything but an exceptional pitcher. I'm certainly anxious to see what happens in the rest of this season. I just think that this kid is not just another "flash in the pan". He didn't just pitch one incredible game. He has been excellent every time he has gone to the mound. He can't help it if he's only been in the majors for about ten minutes. Sure he'll have a bad game. He may even have two, but I truly believe that those of you who think this kid isn't anything special are wrong. Did anyone happen to check his minor league record?
  
  Barring any unforeseen circumstances like an injury, I don't think this kid will disappoint anyone. He seems to have amazing poise out there for a kid up for the first time.

  Again......advanced scouts will figure out some tendencies and how much his curve drops and the second time through the league he won't maybe be as dominant..........but 99-101 or 97-98 with movement just leaves more room for error.
  
  That being said......why didn't the league ever figure out Mariano Rivera.
  
  Sometimes the greatest of the greatest never get figured out.....there just better......Strasburg might be.....but yes......has many many years to go...not starts

  Fydrych was not a highly touted prospect when first drafted, so he is dissimilar in that respect from Strasburg.... But he burst upon the scene with some incredible performances(similar) and some crazy antics(dissimilar). He had the attention of eveyone(similar), and finished the season with 19 wins.

  I think Gooden is the most similar.....but Gooden was 18 in the minors with 300 strikeouts in 1 year...lol

  1984 Dwight Gooden 19 years old 218 innings 276 K 2.60 era
  
  From Aug 17th-Sept 23rd he had 8 starts.....5 of them were complete games including 2 shutouts and the other 3 he went 8 innings....he was 7-1 with his loss being a 16 K 8 inning game that he gave up 1 run......during that stretch (again at age 19) he had 95 k and 12 BB
  
  In 1985 at age 20 he only went 24-4 with 16 complete games, 8 shutouts, 276 innings and 268 K....Oh and his ERA was 1.53
  
  Thru age 23 he had 91 wins and nearly 1100 K
  
  
  This is silly.......after 2 seasons and still just age 20 he had 11 shutouts......the next year Jamie Moyer debuts in 1986 and he is still pitching and has 10 career shutouts.....only Roy Halladay with 18 and Chris Carpenter with 13 have more than Gooden did at age 20.

  Strasburg is unbelievable to watch.....but if given the opportunity.....he couldn't do that....even if you skewed the numbers in comparison to back in the mid 80's......not too mention he is 3 years older

  I was just trying to compare him to someone I remember...then was overwhelmed by some of Gooden's numbers at such a young age
