World Cup: USA vs. Slovenia

Correct. a 0-0 tie would be ideal. Although, maybe second place isnt so bad...it may end up being Ghana or Serbia and not the Germans in that game... -
Glory DaysLaley23;394323 wrote:On the game:
B. Gooch and Howard need to get off this long ball bullshit. Its all they did all game. No build ups. I cant be anymore critical than that cause somehow it resulted in 2 goals.
F. We need to shoot more often.
B.) there is nothing wrong with a long ball every now and then to test the defense. plus the Slovenian defense was pretty tight throughout the game(even before they scored) and was always on the ball as soon as it was passed. we have the speed in our forwards to play the long ball occassionally, we need to take advantage of that. hell it beats that stupid shit where we make 3 and 4 yard passes back and forth to each other at the top of the box only to lose it without a shot.
F.) Yes, yes we do. like i said during the game, it always seems like our forwards want to try and dribble the ball into the goal.
and is it me, or does it always seem like in the attacking 1/3 of the field, we spend too much time with out backs to the goal. its like our forwards get a pass, but cant do anything because they have their back to the goal and if they want to turn, its too late and have 2 defenders on them. -
Laley23^^^Long ball is fine. But it was the way they were going about it. All game with no semblance of a build up, as well as pushing everyone forward for them. Thats what you do with 5 minutes left down a goal, not with 40 minutes left. That was what I was getting frustrated with. Every time they got it it went long. Hell, Howard almost dribbled to midfield one time, why not just make the pass and try a build up and use long ball as the last outlet.

Laley23Just saw the replay, the dude blew the whistle before Donovan ever kicked it. If NOTHING else, that deserves a no kick and thus, a re-kick for the USA. He really was very timid with his arm movements as well. I really dont think he knew why he blew the whistle so he gave Slovenia a free kick....Terrible.

golf4life2008Okay since England and Algeria tied 0-0, what does the US need to happen to qualify?
Obviously we need to win our next game vs Algeria correct? What are the scenarios? -

Scenario 1:
We win
Scenario 2:
We tie, Slovenia beats England
Thats it. Now, where we finish (first or second) is still up for grabs, but we really just need to focus on beating Algeria and we are in. -

Uhhh Thats not it...
Scenerio 3:
USA/Alegria Tie
England/Slovenia Tie and England only scores one more goal than the US. -
Laley23^^^damn, second time in 2 hrs I have left out a scenario!

trackandccrunnerHaha its cool man . I think I said offsides in one of my posts so consider it me just getting back at you for making a mistake!
Actually I just went and checked my posts I didn't say offsides yayy sooo thats what you get for being grammar police! -

haha, not grammar police per se, i dont give two fucks about grammar. This is just not understanding what the rule is stating. It is derived from when a person had to be on their side to be considered in the play. If you werent it was illegal and "offside" as in on the wrong side. If you pluralize it, your basically saying the player isnt in the game because he is not on either side. Its just always annoyed me for some reason when people say offsides. -

Yeah I know why you corrected people I just thought I maybe said it since today I was posting pretty fast a lot since people were coming in and out of my office and we have corporate people there. And its alright we all have those pet peeves about sports just shows your passion for soccer. -
DeyDurkie5We just need to win, simple as that. Like others have said, our offense looks decent enough in the buildup then we seem to freeze when we get in shooting range. It's like we are looking for the perfect goal until we get scored on then we start going after it. If we start out with the intensity that we are down and play a consistent 90 I honesty think we will give every team in the tourney trouble. Asf ar as the game today, the ref blew it and he knows it. There was no call to make, he just seemed to have his mind made up before the kick that he was going to call a foul regardless what happened. Timmy in my opinion fucked up those 2 goals. That first shot was a good one, but I've seen better saved and I just don't think he made any attempt at the ball. As far as the second one, he goes sliding blocking the NEAR POST. what the fuck are you thinking timmy? Ever since you were a kid you have been taught to guard your near post, and he went at the tackle with his entire body blocking the near post and only his hands blocking the far post. Other than that, I like the Torres addition, he holds possession a lot more than clark and can distribute better.
now, let's just go fucking win a game we are supposed to win and get on with the knockout stages. -
Laley23^^^I blame Onyewu for both goals. He shouldve stepped up on both. First one he probably blocks (btw, Howard said he lost the ball when Onyewu screened him) and the second one he wouldnt have kept ljbnijidsfgkfdhg onside. Not to mention, he was standing still, so the passer coulve just dribbled around him if he wanted to anyway lol.
But yeah, I liked Torres, but he or Bradley need to play the holding mid better. Id say Torres as he is a better passer/more creative and Bradley can go forward better. But Bradley is the bettter defender. Either way, better than Clark.
Findley, well that yellow card is a blessing in disguise. Now that bitch wont be able to play next game haha. -

the first one i'll give you because gooch definatly should've stepped. But that second goal was just terrible keeping. -

Maybe, but I dont think you can ever really blame a keeper on a break-away. Thats pretty fucking harsh man haha. -
slingshot4everQuick question. What if we tie 0-0, and the England game ties 2-2. How do they break the tie between England and US since we bothwould have scored and given up the same amount of goals and tied one another????
-
Mulvatk421;393905 wrote:Findley not available anymore for the last game.
That couldn't possibly be a bad thing. I have no idea why he was starting to begin with.
That ref sucked, but if our defense wasn't abysmal again it never would have come to that. -

Total goals scored would also be tied 3-3, then its a coin flip I think. -
jordo212000Yeah I love Findley's speed and athleticism but man he drives me crazy. He's had several chances to score in the World Cup and he locks up. He thinks about it too long, and then makes the extra pass that inevitably always gets broken up

Glory DaysLaley23;394613 wrote:Total goals scored would also be tied 3-3, then its a coin flip I think.
no, i dont there is a coin flip. it goes back to the qualifying rounds i think for points or goals. -
slingshot4ever^^^^^
Goals for and against would be even (3-3). It is really a coin flip??????????????????? -
Laley23Glory Days;394624 wrote:no, i dont there is a coin flip. it goes back to the qualifying rounds i think for points or goals.
haha, never trust a random site:
If both teams are tied on the “goals scored” tiebreaker – England draws 2-2, USA draws 0-2, for example – it will come down to a coin flip, since the head-to-head tiebreaker will be indecisive. -
Laley23This sounds/looks legit
The ranking of each team in each group will be determined as follows:
a) greatest number of points obtained in all group matches;
b) goal difference in all group matches;
c) greatest number of goals scored in all group matches.
If two or more teams are equal on the basis of the above three criteria,
their rankings will be determined as follows:
d) greatest number of points obtained in the group matches between
the teams concerned;
e) goal difference resulting from the group matches between the
teams concerned;
f) greater number of goals scored in all group matches between the
teams concerned;
g) drawing of lots by the FIFA Organising Committee. -
slingshot4everSo does that mean it would go to the "drawing of lots"? And what the hell is drawing of lots?
-
Glory Dayshaha wow that tie breaker is weird. i would figure D, E, and F would most of the time be a tie too if B and C are tied haha.
