  Both backlines are a disaster, but the US' 3 goalkeepers are better than England's starter. I recently just changed to US winning despite Dempsey not helping out defensively and Ricardo Clark getting a stupid Red Card iin the first half for mooning the referee. Why do we keep playing him...

  The only thing that does concern me is the shaky play by our defense, especially when pit against an all-world goal scorer like Sir Wayne Rooney.

  I haven't watched their games, I just know we are the US and when these games come around, we seem to get picked apart aside from a very small percentage. Hopefully my gut feeling is wrong, but that's just how I see it happening with this team. There isn't a little bit in you that thinks rooney is goign to go off?

  Depends on what you mean by "going off". A VERY small part of me thinks he could net a hat trick. But a slightly bigger part of me sees him not scoring. I think he will probably get a goal, and I think Carragher or Heskey gets the second off of a corner. For me, going off would be AT LEAST a brace, but even that isnt going off unless he completely dominates in our third of the field, which I doubt happens. He just isnt the type of player who controls the ball for long spells of time and he usually doenst do it on his own, someone like Messi controls the balls for large amounts of time and can dominate the game unlike a Rooney. That is the difference, and why I dont think the USA needs to completely be focused only on Rooney. If they do, Cole, Lampard, Gerrard, Heskey, etc will burn them.

  Everyone on that team can score. Lampard, Gerrard, Rooney, Heskey, Cole, etc.
  
  I think the more important thing is to not lose the shape of the backline and holding mids (see Uruguay for perfection and Mexico for atrociousness). That will be the key in slowing down the English attack, not trying to focus on their individuals.

  I wasn't that excited for tomorrow until I watched Uruguay and France today (missed the opener). I cannot wait for tomorrow, even though I feel our best bet is a draw in the fashion that Uruguay had today. That was a tense last ten minutes with that send off.

  England is to be respected, and frankly, their offensive and attacking midfield strength probably leaves us cold, however...
  the US defense is solid and keeper play is 2nd to none...
  
  if this is the epic struggle that engages the entire US of A into soccer, that would be a bonus.
  
  if not, at least I will enjoy the match.
  
  BTW...neither US nor England have any chance to whiff the finale...
  you would have to travel to Spain or Netherlands or Argentina to get that priveledge.

  The USA has already beat Spain, Argentina is headed by Maradona, and Netherlands isn't 100% and their defense is very suspect.
  
  I'm not picking the USA to get to the Final, but it's not as if this is a terrifyingly strong field this year. Spain and Brazil are legit, Argentina may have the best striking combo and the Dutch are always strong on the attack, but it's hard for me to pick one clear cut favorite.
  
  I did pick Brazil to win though I have my doubts now.

  If it were baseball or basketball or "American" football, the choice would be simple. Those three sports sort of belong to the US. As much as we have tried and as excited as many have gotten over American soccer, the sport just doesn't seem to have ever really caught on in this country. I know all about the thousands of soccer facilities opening around the country and so forth and so on, but the bottom line says that the effort has, on an international scale, been pretty much a bust. If we win, it's almost always considered an upset and how many years do we continue to use the fact that soccer is somehow new in this country. It is no longer new. We just aren't very good at it despite the best efforts of many who hope that we will become this huge soccer power. I just don't think it's ever really going to happen. As far as the England-US match is concerned, I'll go with a 1-0 England victory and there-in is the other huge problem. The game moves too slowly for us and the scoreboard hardly ever has to have bulbs replaced due to massive scoring. I'd really like to see the US win. I always root for the American team, but some things just weren't meant to be. Soccer is an English game, not an American game.

  You can attribute the low scoring problem to hockey as well. The majority of Americans are retarded and their interest cannot be held long enough to appreciate how difficult something like soccer and hockey are.
