You hate Cleveland more than the LA's and Boston's of the world?

If there is any merit to it, how in the world does it make sense to not only hire someone who has not played in the NBA, but never coached a day in it?

If that is what Lebron wants, then Byron Scott fits the mold to a T as he won multiple championships as a player and has been to 2 NBA finals as a coach. Seems Gilbert's hard-on for Izzo is getting in the way of what would be the better basketball decision particularly if what is being reported about Lebron's wishes are true.
If I were the Clippers, I would hire Byron Scott and then court LeBron. If he really wants to play for a coach that has played in the NBA, like Iggy said, Scott is a good candidate. Avery Johnson has and that might be what keeps the Nets in the race. Clippers are laying low and havent hired a GM or coach yet. Now all they need to do is knock Donald Sterling out and forge his hand writing on a check for LeBron.

IMO, Izzo should take the advice of Pitino and "Put yourself in a seat belt and stay at Michigan State".

With all that being said, I still think LeBron stays(and want him to) but it wouldnt surprise me if he goes to Chicago or LA.

LeBron is NOT going to the Clippers, especially with Donald Sterling as the owner. You can forget that.

As far as Chicago, I could see it, but again, their ownership can become pretty cheap and they haven't done shit since MJ was there. I also don't see LeBron leaving Cleveland and joining a team within the same division, not to mention play in a city that already has the legacy of the games greatest player.

From everything that ESPN (Broussard, Stein) is saying, LeBron obviously made a pitch for Izzo and Scott to Cleveland. That doesn't mean Dan Gilbert didn't go after Izzo first, because Gilbert tried to get Izzo before he hired Mike Brown.

Like Broussard said, even though Gilbert is a billionaire, losing LeBron cuts the franchise value by about $150 million. Why would he want to then spend $30 million on an unproven NBA coach in Tom Izzo if he's already going to take a financial hit (not that it hurts his pocket that much, but $150 mill is a $150 mill!)?

Broussard seems to think Gilbert knows LeBrons intentions.

And let's not forget, LeBron once helped Izzo recruit Delvon Roe, who was on LBJ's AAU team and was all but committed to UNC before backing out and going to MSU. It's said his dad had a bit in that move, but many believe LeBron influenced Roe towards Izzo and MSU because of LBJ's and Izzo's relationship through Nike.

Of course Gilbert knows something. Even if Lebron does leave, I would think that he has no hard feelings towards Gilbert and would be somewhat up front with him if asked. To think that Gilbert doesn't have some insight into Lebron's thinking is just dumb.

This is my theory on all of the off season stuff. Haven't hard too much time due to work to get indepth information but all of these moves have a reason.

-Brown had to be fired after two weak post season performances after being the #1 team going into both playoffs. He took Cleveland as far as he could as a coach, I respect him but his time was up in Cleveland.

-Ferry probably didn't like the Brown firing as they were close, but I am fine with him moving on as Grant will be a solid replacement. I wouldn't necessarily say that Ferry's time was up in Cleveland but he did have several years, money, and an owner will to do anything. In that time frame he never got LeBron a solid #2 player that the other top teams have. I don't blame him solely for that as I don't know what was offered every season, but with the resources I'd expect a big name by now.

-Izzo intrigues me. I love his style, I love how he always has MSU playing at a high level even though they do not bring in huge recruiting classes. He is a proven winner and a personality that I think can translate well into the NBA. Of course we'll hear that NCAA coaches aren't successful in the NBA but if LeBron stays Izzo won't be walking into a bad situation.

-If anyone thinks LeBron doesn't know what Gilbert is doing and Gilbert doesn't know what LeBron is doing are crazy. These guys are close and even though Gilbert adamantly said LeBron has no voice, I call bull fucking shit.

So far I am happy with the moves Gilbert has made and I think by the time draft night comes, Cleveland will make a big splash.

Tom Izzo to announce decision on Cavs coaching job on Saturday

Mary Schmitt Boyer, The Plain Dealer

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Michigan State coach Tom Izzo will announce his decision regarding the Cavaliers head coach position on Saturday, he told his players during a team meeting Friday afternoon.

Sources told The Plain Dealer that although Izzo gave no indication what his decision would be, players came away with the impression that he would take the Cavs job.

Izzo flew to Cleveland on Thursday and spent several hours with owner Dan Gilbert, touring the Cavs facilities and meeting with team officials and assistant coaches.

The Cavs have not scheduled any announcements.

Windy is saying the same thing........ http://twitter.com/pdcavsinsider

Well, unless I missed something and Izzo accepted or turned down the job, Mary Schmitt Boyer and Windy are full of shit. Saturday has come and gone.

Windy is out of the loop...hell, there are guys over on RCF that are more "in the know" than him.
  • devil1197
Yeah, not sure what has happened but Windy has fallen off hard at the end of the season heading into this summer. He was pretty good last year but he is off big time right now.

I know he had strong ties to Brown/Ferry, so maybe he is butt hurt.

No shit. I check Windys twitter occasionally but the dude is slacking. I think we find out tomorrow, according to 'sources" MSU is putting the pressure on Izzo to make up his mind.

I'm a little surprised it has taken Coach Izzo so long to decide. I mean, we're talking millions and a six year deal sounds probable. What is the hold-up? I have to believe it has to do with whether he really wants to do this. East Lansing's not a bad place to live and when you are treated like a King, it makes the choice that much easier! For the sake of the "Big" whatever it is up to this morning, I hope he stays in Michigan. I know it will make Ohio State's job that much harder, but isn't that the point of playing in a big time league?
  • devil1197
    What's taking him so long?

This is a huge decision for a top NCAA coach to make. I have a feeling it will be made soon but still its not just about the money.
  • hoops23
A "powerful source" has indicated that "LeBron is 100% in favor of bringing Izzo to Cleveland."
  • wildcats20
I'm sure it's been talked about it here, but I'm not about to reread this whole thread...

Where does Gilbert turn when/if Izzo turns him down??

    Byron Scott
    Brian Shaw

Supposedly a # of people have been talked to/interviewed though, so we'll see.
  • KR1245
Izzo is leaning towards staying at MSU...........thats according to Bucher so take it for what its worth

I also heard that Byron Scott might wait around to see what the Lakers do this offseason before he commits to anything.

Izzo is turning into Brett Favre here. Just give a freakin' answer.
  • thedynasty1998
Sounds like it's; No Lebron, No Izzo. Izzo seems to want to know what Lebron is doing before accepting, and I don't blame him for that.

How is Lebron turning into Brett Favre?

thedynasty1998;389140 wrote:How is Lebron turning into Brett Favre?

I agree. This Izzo thing kinda reminds me of Favre in that he's taking his old sweet time in giving a decision. I know it's a HUGE decision but in the mean time, if there's a backup coach that is their second choice, they could lose out because of Izzo's dilly dallying. Lebron is just waiting to see what else is out there. Had FA been June 1st, instead of July 1st, the Lebron drama would be over and done with by now.

It has only been a week and people are bitching about Izzo taking too long?

If you don't think Lebron is dramatic, then you clearly haven't been paying attention. He is truly a drama queen. If your commited to the city of Cleveland, say so. If not, then GTFO and become the most hated sports figure in the history of Cleveland sports. Sign your max deal now (or 3 year deal) and let the front office go to work. If he is so "commited" to getting Cleveland a title, he would do so now. JMO

I don't blame him for debating. Why shouldn't he? He could love Cleveland and not want to spend the rest of his life there. As much as I would like him to make a decision now, I don't mind him taking his time.
