Tom Izzo to coach the Cavaliers?
-
jpake1That sucks. Some coaches just define their sports. This is about as odd as it would be if JT took a job with an NFL team.
-
KnightRyderthe only reason izzo ia taking this job is for the cash. he will fail big time in the nba, and go back to the college game in less than 3 years

And that would fail even MORE miserably than people think Izzo is going to fail. "Three yards and a cloud of PUNTS" doesn't cut it in the NFL. -
jpake1If he signs with the Cavs, then leaves on his own to go back to MSU, I would lose a bit of respect for him. You're either in or you're either out. Do your due diligence and make the right decision the first time. But that's all for another day that may never come.

This isn't 2003 BR, Tressel has opened up his offense since. Not saying he would be a good NFL coach, just hate when people say this STILL about Jim Tressel -

With the athletes he has year in and year out...he still runs a very basiiiic offense -
norwalkAs a Buckeye fan I hate to see Izzo leave. It's been the one solid constant in the Big Ten that makes our conference legit every year. For all of those that say he's going to fail and they need an NBA coach? There are very few NBA coaches that have won consistently in the NBA and even fewer that have won an NBA title. Most coaches are retreads. I say give it to Izzo, let him hire a top NBA assisant coach and see what happens. Is he truly worse than Scott, Sampson, or whoever else they may choose?

Oh i'm not saying his offense is the best or that it is perfect or anything like that...just that it is not the same old "3 and out, punt for field position" offense it used to be. He has definitely opened it up and blended it with his great athletes. -

And so does 90 percent of the NFL.
Like it or not, a solid running game and great defense will almost always be the key to winning championships.
Those teams that don't live in domes have to rely on a good running game when the weather turns, and need that stellar defense to get to the next level.
Those critical of JT either don't watch him enough or simply have a bias.
He stresses FUNDAMENTALS and understands that things like special teams typically mean the difference between winning and losing.
How is that different from every NFL coach out there?
It's not. -

You know whats wrong with his gameplan? If it doesnt work, he doesnt make adjustments, like good head coaches doWriterbuckeye;386970 wrote:And so does 90 percent of the NFL.

KR1245So now Jim Tressel isnt a good football coach?
-
NateThis is about basketball, not football. Jesus, take it elsewhere..
On the topic, I think Izzo will be fine. His talent at MSU hasn't always been top 10 talent but he does find a way to win. -
KR1245Anyways, it appears that Izzo hasnt made a decision yet. Latest from Windy
#Cavs moving forward with coach search, going "deeper" with Byron Scott & talking to others. Posturing? We'll see.
I dont think we will know anything till Monday. -
thedynasty1998Obviously Izzo is heavily considering the job. I wonder how much time Gilbert gave him?

Get outta here with that...you watch the Oregon game? Don't tell me after watching that game you can say with a straight face Tressel doesn't make adjustments. -
Pick6izzo is going to be the coach. we figured this out a couple days ago

This was reported in the Plain Dealer this morning.According to a source, one thing James has let the organization know is that he's interested in a coach that has played in the NBA. Scott, who had a good relationship with James' close friend Chris Paul, would fit that bill.
If there is any merit to it, how in the world does it make sense to not only hire someone who has not played in the NBA, but never coached a day in it?
If that is what Lebron wants, then Byron Scott fits the mold to a T as he won multiple championships as a player and has been to 2 NBA finals as a coach. Seems Gilbert's hard-on for Izzo is getting in the way of what would be the better basketball decision particularly if what is being reported about Lebron's wishes are true. -
KR1245This will be over tomorrow:
Tom Izzo to announce decision on Cavs coaching job on Saturday
Updated: Friday, June 11, 2010, 5:21 PM
Mary Schmitt Boyer, The Plain Dealer
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Michigan State coach Tom Izzo will announce his decision regarding the Cavaliers head coach position on Saturday, he told his players during a team meeting Friday afternoon.
Sources told The Plain Dealer that although Izzo gave no indication what his decision would be, players came away with the impression that he would take the Cavs job.
Izzo flew to Cleveland on Thursday and spent several hours with owner Dan Gilbert, touring the Cavs facilities and meeting with team officials and assistant coaches.
The Cavs have not scheduled any announcements.
Windy is saying the same thing........ http://twitter.com/pdcavsinsider -
jpake1I won't believe it until it happens. He belongs at MSU. He's everything that's great about college hoops. Cavs, take Cal, leave Izzo alone!
-
YtowngirlinflaSo I just got a twitter update from local sports that he did take the job...
