Pirates at Reds, game 3

And Herrera strands his 3 inherited runners!
  • wildcats20
Danny looked good. Nice to see.

How about Chris Heisey?!?! Kid is raking right now!!
  • mhs95_06
The best closer of all time just picked up his 2nd save of the day!
  • wildcats20
No reason CoCo should be in the game.
  • charliehustle14
Heisey is pretty fun to watch. The kid goes up there to swing the bat and man, can he lay some lumber on it.
  • mhs95_06
Umps have no clue! They issue warnings to pitchers for pitches that clearly do not have intent, and then this obvious one where Donnelly just hauled off and threw right at Cairo who earlier hit a HR, just after the Heisey HR, and they say nothing!

After he gave up the grand slam to blow the save last Thursday, didn't he almost blow the lead in a "non-save" situation to the Indians?
  • wildcats20
He did, I believe. I think he turned it into a save, if that is possible?
  • mhs95_06
And what happened to Lincoln? After he pitched two good innings last Thursday and Dusty tried to get a 3rd inning and a save out of Lincoln, he hasn't pitched since. Is his arm now bothering him?
  • wildcats20
Nice job by CoCo getting it done.

Back up in the Central by 1/2 game. Need the Dads to come through again tonight.

He could turn it into a save situation for someone else, but not himself if he comes in with a four run lead to start the 9th.

Saturday night at Cleveland he came in the bottom of the ninth to start the inning with a 4 run lead, and four of the first five batters reached on 3 hits and a walk, making it a 2 run lead with runners on 1st and 3rd with just one out. Then he got the next two batters to end the game 6-4. No save was awarded, although from where he was with one out he saved a lot of his own embarassment.

sorry, just switched and caught the final line score, did I see 11 LOB? so it could have been worse?
  • wildcats20
Yes. And that is 11 LOB in 7 innings. Reds went down 1-2-3 in the 3rd(?) and didn't have to hit in the home half of the 9th.
  • darbypitcher22
wow... what'd they do tonight in RISP situations?

Did anyone see that interview with Miguel Cairo after the game? I feel bad for making fun of him now, not only has he contributed lately, but he seems like a genuine guy who knows he's nearing the twilight of his career and just wants to be able to contribute to the team and help them win ballgames.

Hats off to you Miguel, I hope you keep showing that you can still play the game and help this team.
  • darbypitcher22
maybe he and some of the other old timers on the Reds roster can lead them to a run and hang in it for a while

Leake and Arroyo are nasty right now.
  • darbypitcher22
    ^^^

not a bad combination to have with Andy Pettitte on the fantasy team right now either

    Fixed that for ya.

Cueto has a 1.93 ERA in May.

Hope his blister is better tomorrow.

True, if he can keep the walks down and be more efficient he's the best of the 3.

I have nothing against Cairo and he seems like a good guy. But he is just barely more than a warm body. He used to be a nice utility guy, but now he really doesn't have much ability to play the middle infield. If I know that I am going to play somebody on a rare occasion to spell my 1B or 3B because he is a below avg fielder, that guy better make up for it with his bat. Cairo doesn't. He is a career .260 hitter and that includes his peak years.

The dude was below the Mendoza line coming into tonight. Let's not get carried away because he had one good night, that's all I'm saying.
  • Mooney44Cards
Jesus....I'm not saying lets put him in the starting 9, I'm just saying he could still prove useful, and its better than having to stick Hernandez at 1st base to spell Votto.

Padres have the bases loaded in the 5th with 2 outs. Still tied 0-0.
