Gilbert knows he's got to keep LeBron here.

With a casino coming to downtown, Gilbert is going to be super loaded, he's already a billionaire and that is jsut going to add onto it.

He knows the more people come to games/downtown Cleveland, the more people visit the casino.

Win - Win for Mr. Gilbert.
I think it's going to be Izzo from Michigan State.

One of my buddies said Izzo last night too. I never really thought about him because I just can't see him leaving MSU. Though maybe Gilbert can pull some strings with those connections.

    lol.

I would take Izzo in a heartbeat...i think he would be good for the Cavs and it would get him out of the Big Ten. :D

Though, i must admit i do enjoy the fact that the B10 has probably the best roster of coaches in the country, IMO.

I'm not really understanding the Izzo talks. As Mo Williams said, you don't get rid of Mike Brown to experiment with a college coach. Just seems like an idiotic idea, and I really just don't see how Izzo is appealing to Lebron?
  • SQ_Crazies
You don't seem to understand anything...

What is the appeal with Izzo? Do explain.
  • SQ_Crazies
    That has to be explained?

What is the appeal with Coach K? He's never coached in the NBA.

You don't have to have NBA success to be respected as a great basketball coach. Not saying Izzo would be good at the next level, that would be a big assumption but it's pretty easy to see what the appeal is.

    That's a good question.

dynasty, what you need to understand (so that you can stop giving Cavs fans headaches) is that this is just offseason talk. None of this is being talked about like, "oh yeah, it's GOING to happen". It's just being discussed. Just chill out, we're just waiting to see what happens the same way you are--just analyzing all possibilities.

I understand that, and I'm discussing things the same way you are. I'm just not going to throw stuff around because it's the offseason though.

Izzo has had success in college basketball, but the NBA is completely different. It's different style of play, different sets, different in terms of travel, different type of pressure, different in the managing of egos, different in personnel moves, etc...

What makes one think that Izzo is the guy to come in and take over the team with the best record in the regular season and get them over the hump? I could see a team taking a gamble on Izzo, but not an established team who is trying to bring back the best player in the league, but selling him a college coach with no NBA experience.

As for the Coach K appeal, I would give the same reasons why he wouldn't be a good choice, however, he has experience with the Olympic team and has been around the NBA egos and managed them at the most complex level (bunch of superstars at the Olympics). So, I do think Coach K makes a little bit more sense.

I will say this though, if you are a college coach that is targeted for the Cavs job, knowing Lebron is sticking around, and Gilbert will be paying $10 million a year or whatever he's offering, how do you turn that down?
  • SQ_Crazies
See, this is what I mean, I'm not going to bother responding to that. You're assuming that we think everything we say is going to happen, or we think it's a great idea, no. No one is commenting that deep on anything, just putting the ideas out there because regardless, we have to wait and see what happens like everyone else.
  • thedynasty1998
That's just dumb, so you throw around ideas even though you don't think they will happen?

Here's something for thought, the Cavs do a sign and trade with the Lakers, trading Lebron for Bynum, Odom and Farmar. Maybe the Lakers even throw in their 1st round pick?

And Phil Jackson signs on with Cleveland because he wants to continue developing Bynum and really gets along well with Odom and Farmar. Mike Brown is then hired by the Lakers.

    Let's discuss that trade......
  • SQ_Crazies
Yes and no. 99.9% of the things that have been and will be talked about begin with some other, more reputable source. But yes, some are just people coming up with ideas on their own.

Like I said, you clearly don't understand. This is typical offseason talk, you need to chill the fuck out before your brain explodes. That's what the offseason is for, relaxation.
  • big_hits24
^^Not going to happen...sorry. Phil jackson isn't leaving LA to go to Cleveland, and that trade wouldn't happen.
  • SQ_Crazies
LOL, I love how people automatically throw out the idea of Phil Jackson going to Cleveland after Dan Gilbert says he may offer him 20 million--but you don't hear it on Sportscenter, so that can't happen...

If you don't think 20 million and LeBron would open Jackson's eyes--you're a total moron.
  • SQ_Crazies
In fact as I was typing that the replay of Broussard was on ESPN saying "Jerry Buss wants Jackson to take a pay cut, which could open the door for the Chicago Bulls to pay him 12 million and get him back in the United Center."

Broussard is FROM Cleveland used to seem to make a conscious effort to include the Cavs in every part of the discussion they were relevant in--he has recently stopped doing that.

Why would he not have mentioned Gilbert saying he may be willing to pay him 20 million? You want to talk about opening a door.
  • thedynasty1998
I think that's a good trade, regardless of the coaches switching teams. You get your center in Bynum, Odom becomes the Cavs best player and Farmar is a solid role player. You have a starting lineup of Mo Williams, Delonte, Odom, Hickson and Bynum.

The Lakers then have Fisher, Kobe, Lebron, Powell and Gasol.

I just threw that out there as a random trade, but now that I think about it, it works. The Cavs get a few pieces back in return for Lebron and they are still a playoff team and the Lakers get better as well.

The salaries even match up, the Cavs would be bringing on about $25 million in salaries and Lebron will likely sign for around that.

This trade makes much more sense for both teams than the random Chris Paul trade that was being thrown around, and is more likely than the Cavs bringing in Bosh.

Dynasty is just talking like the rest of you guys, chill out. You guys are bringing it up, he's shooting it down. Just giving his two cents about the possibilities.
  • thedynasty1998
I honestly think I just threw out a trade that makes more sense than anything else I've read on here.
