Reds @ Pirates.....Game 3

Tied for the wildcard as it is right now as well. Washington even has a worse run differential than we do.

I was just looking to see if anyone had a better or same record with a worse run differential and somehow I completely looked over the Nats

And we are STILL -6 in the run department...lol
A lot of close wins and blow out losses will do that to you. Don't forget, we started the Pittsburgh series with a -21 run differential.

^^Is that what it was?? I normally don't pay attention to it, just thought it was interesting.

CinciX...we're actually a 1/2 game back tied with the Nats behind San Fran

Wins and losses determine your Division Championship, not your run differential. Right now, the Reds are playing very good baseball. They are a mere one game out of first and have the Cards this weekend. They are one of the hottest clubs in the majors. How about that Dusty Baker?

Talking about the back to back CGSO with no walks.....

Technically Cueto didn't walk anyone, but he did hit Cedano. I know it doesn't count as a walk, but it basically is.

Actually that Padres-Giants game just ended a bit ago with the Padres winning 5-2.

That means we're in a 3 way tie for first in the wildcard with San Fran and Washington (huh?)

Look out for the Nationals, they're playing some good baseball too, and we're about 2-3 weeks away from Strasburg joining that rotation.

If the Reds should happen to win this weekend series with the Cardinals, what will we find to blame Dusty for? I know, we can blame him for bad weather and the DOW Average. Perhaps the Reds will get blown out and then we can get back to what we do best. Criticize. (I would point out that no where have I seen any reference to Dusty having anything whatsoever to do with the recent success of the Reds). They must be on automatic pilot? Perhaps they have received some Divine Intervention? I guess Dusty and Mike Brown have a lot in common.

There is no doubt that Baker has made some good decisions in the last three weeks or so. But it is hard to forget the mistakes that he has made over the last two seasons. Even this year, his hard-headed, conventional wisdom approach has hurt the team. Leaving BP in cleanup and Stubbs in leadoff for as long as he did is hard to forgive. Neither were suited for those positions and many of us saw it early. It took him over a month.

As far as why he is having better results, I think it is one (or a combination) of three reasons. Jocketty (not Divine) intervention, beating up on weak teams makes it easy to look good (Mets, Cubs, Pirates), and the always-motivating contract year.

And yes, Baker and Brown do have a lot in common, they both know that it is now or never or they will be in the unemployment line this fall. Coaches are paid to win, neither have lived up to their expectations yet.

    He is the devil.

    Thank you for asking.

I know everyone needs a day off, especially Rolen, but I sure wish they were playing today.

Same here. I am really starting to enjoy watching this team play.

Dinglebaker is still my #1 enemy, regardless of how the team is doing or the good decisions he's made lately.

Baker still isn't a great big league manager. The players are playing well... when that happens, you win. He still does bone-headed things all the time. (Ignoring stats, not knowing when to pull people, catering to veterans when young guys are better)

Baker is hideous.....the Reds have won 5 in a row.....WOW! against the worst team I've seen in a series in years for the final 3 of them.

The Reds are playing well......but this is the same guy who insisted on batting Phillips 4th...REGARDLESS....batting 3rd Babe Ruth.....4th Brandon Phillips batting 5th Lou Gehrig......NOT until rumors of him being canned did he do what 90% of us thought and move Phillips to 2nd in the order.

Dusty looks like he's smart for batting Heisey leadoff the other night when the rookie was 0-6 and Dusty made him leadoff.....why did he bat him leadoff.....cause he's a great leadoff guy?.....or cause he was playing CF?....my money is on the latter. His insistence over the years on CF batting 1st and SS batting 2nd is just idotic and 5 wins agaisnt crappy teams does not alleviate that with me.

Paul Janish was brought up as a rookie because of an injury to the starting SS.......and no other reason......good glove....no bat....and sure enough Dusty bats him 2nd....that's certainly where we want a guy who cannot hit well in the minors to bat.

The Reds have pitched well SINCE Leake's quick work has paid off.....Cueto, Bailey and Harang all got their 1st wins this year pitching the pace of Leake.....is that Dusty or the new pitching coach.....or just some Reds pitcher realizing how to pitch effectively.

Anyone who wants to agree with Dusty....that's fine. Willie Taveras and Corey Patterson will agree.
